Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Paolowsky84

om_system_om1OM System OM-1

Pros: Lightweight, the best ergonomics I've ever had, lots of cool features.

Cons: Image quality, not exactly high iso performance, high cost in relation to image quality.

Opinion: Beautiful camera, very comfortable but with some significant flaws. At iso 3200/6400 it is already over the limit for me, too much too much digital noise that makes you lose detail and makes it difficult to clean even with the best software. I owned the OM1 and the Z6II, paid the same but in the evening the Nikon is clearly superior in terms of image. Unfortunately it is comfortable but with the FF in terms of image quality there is nothing to do, it is superior and by a lot. Disappointed not to be able to go beyond 3200iso I resold it, it costs too much for the limitations it gives.

nikon_80-200_f2-8dNikon AF 80-200 f/2.8 ED D

Pros: Excellent materials, excellent yield and optical quality

Cons: honestly I do not know, not even the weight I put into consideration just for the excellent materials

Opinion: Little to write, for the price I paid I also had much more than I expected (and I expected a lot given the reviews). It has fantastic colors and an excellent sharpness that I found in more or less all the focal lengths I used. Heavy but excellently built. AF not lightning fast but still I never "canned" a photo, it has always been accurate and I also used it in concerts and events in my city Recommended

sigma_12-24Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Poor materials, poor edge yield, dark

Opinion: Paid very little and resold immediately. I was interested in the focal range of this lens (12 linear and 24 were comfortable) but with that yield and with those materials (the focus ring every time I touched it I was afraid that it would remain in my hands) I immediately resold the lens. Yield at the edges painful, soft and does not resolve even with closed apertures (where normally on a good lens is resolved) Disappointment, stay away.

tamron_70-300vcTamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD

Pros: Image quality for what it costs, just know how to use it and churns out excellent images even in theater and night concerts. Lightweight and with a stabilizer still very good. I repeat, everything for its price is great!

Cons: At 300mm you notice the loss of detail but it is completely normal, both for the physics of that lens and for the price. I must say that it loses little anyway, I thought worse.

Opinion: It is a lens that has accompanied me since 2012, very happy that everything works (including autofocus) with the FTZ II I will continue to use it profitably! It has a nice quality and I repeat for the price you spend on this lens is really a monstrous value for money! The only flaw is the loss of detail at 300mm, not huge but still noticeable, you have to be good at shooting in that focal length when you have a perfect light!

olympus_30macroOlympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 30mm f/3.5 Macro

Pros: Small, light, well built despite being plastic (but not the bayonet), excellent yield, sharp

Cons: No hood

Opinion: Bought used at bargain price, is giving me great satisfaction. Especially when many of my acquaintances exchange my photos with those I used to take with my dedicated Nikon D610 + macro. Very light lens and especially as I close the aperture a little bit the sharpness is really good. Much better than my old 90mm Tamron. I didn't think it was so good as a surrender. Even at TA it makes good, obviously a hair less but equally very sharp! Highly recommended

panasonic_leica12-60_f2-8-4oisPanasonic Leica DG 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 ASPH OIS

Pros: Absolutely excellent performance, beautiful colors on both Olympus and Lumix bodies, silent AF, razor-sharp, professional construction!

Cons: It risks not letting me use other Lenses anymore

Opinion: There are few things to say, I have never had an all-rounder zoom that has a fixed yield everywhere! He never missed a beat, absurd colors and superb sharpness. I have a D610 with the tamron 28-75 and it is not as brood as the Leica, ditto my old Fujifilm X-T30 with the 18-55 f2.8 and the 16-55 are not so sharp unless I close the diaphragm! All-metal construction and excellent material quality. In short, my favorite lens currently! It was not understood, right? :)

olympus_9bodycapOlympus 9mm f/8 Fish-Eye Body Cap

Pros: For what it costs honestly I expected much much worse instead I did a couple of views that surprised me. Unexpectedly good yield, it weighs like a cork (and in fact it practically is).

Cons: At this price any criticism is almost useless.

Opinion: Paid € 50 I took it for fun, instead I must say that I made a little' landscapes so for fun and I found very usable photos even to print large. I was stunned especially when I showed the photo to colleagues who did not want to believe me! Obviously it has its limits but you want to put the satisfaction of making usable and beautiful photos for € 50 ??? Fixed aperture at F / 8, for the use I make of it is not a problem indeed. It's plastic, at 50€ what do you expect? Manual Focus, always at 50€ what do you expect? in short, it is yet another micro four thirds lens that I brought home for 2 pennies and that gave me good photos to be able to print in large format (type A3 / A2, sorry but I do not remember at the moment the precise dimensions)

olympus_m14-42_v2rOlympus M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R

Pros: Compact, lightweight (looks empty), surprising optical rendering considering that it is a kit lens and cheap

Cons: I honestly found no noteworthy flaws based on my use. I can say that it is a bit dark as a lens but it is normal given the compactness.

Opinion: Like any kit lens I had in mind to get rid of it as soon as I found an offer for a better lens. Instead he accompanied me for a year together with the Olympus Em10 MkII giving me unexpectedly good results. Very compact (not like the pancake) and very light allowed me to use the Olympus as if it were a pocket compact. If you only have this lens, squeeze it well before moving on to something else, it is absolutely not a simple Kit lens like the famous 18-55 of the big brands that are quite painful. I printed professional-level photos with great satisfaction of customers who did not believe in such a result seeing me photographed with a small camera hahahaha

olympus_omd_em10_iiOlympus OM-D E-M10 II

Pros: Impeccable, compact construction, full of interesting and above all useful functions

Cons: Sensor yield at high iso poor, battery with little autonomy

Opinion: It accompanied me for a year and was my gateway to the micro four thirds. For what I paid I had a lot of satisfaction so much to use it for a couple of photo shoots to couples celebrating the first year of their son or before getting married. Rendering of colors really very pleasant, especially the greens that in my opinion turned out to be the brightest that happened to me during my post productions (trying in the dtessi places anhe my other SLR and mirrorless). I was also satisfied that in this small entry level I could take advantage of the exclusive functions of Olympus or the live time / composite / bulb in my opinion very very useful in my opinion. Its compactness and lightness allowed me to put it in places that before I would have only dreamed of (on a fence anchored with a couple of cables, poised on the bench of a church etc.), the real strength of this mirrorless. With low light the sensor is a sieve, above 1600iso rather than a photo seems to see fry an image, very very poor. We help ourselves with bright optics but it is of little use, if you are in low light conditions it is better to leave it at home.

panasonic_g9Panasonic G9

Pros: Ergonomics, software, colors, high iso seal together but only thanks to the Denoise software otherwise poor as all M43 in general (but it is not their fault is the physics of the small sensor unfortunately)

Cons: Honestly none, maybe the size and weight not really in line with the Micro Quattri Terzi philosophy

Opinion: I'm currently using it instead of my D610. Honestly, I've never used such a reliable camera in my life. Sofware fast and intuitive, MAF that I must say has never canned a photo. I photographed my dog while he was running, the tour of Italy and several seagulls in flight and he always hooked them to me without problems. It holds very well in the hand, ergonomics really well studied. For now my second favorite, in first place as ergonomics there is the Olympus Em1 Mkii onwards, it seems made on the mold of my hand.

olympus_m45Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8

Pros: Yield, sharpness, compactness, lightness, materials, price

Cons: for now nothing

Opinion: I saw it used several times in some weddings and I decided to take it. Photographers are not crazy, if they use it at weddings there is a reason and in fact it is an exceptional lens. At a ridiculous price moreover, used at 150 € still with films. Excellent yield and sharpness. Very small to keep in your pocket. Highly recommended!

olympus_m40-150rOlympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/4-5.6 R

Pros: Economical, lightweight, compact, surprising yield, sharp

Cons: If I really have to find one the plastic bayonet

Opinion: Bought at 89€ new. With the prejudice that it would be crap I was happily surprised. Sharp and excellent yield even at TA. I expected a decay of quality to 150mm (physiological in the zooms so pushed) instead I also managed to make portraits sharp and full of detail. Never expected such a yield, I kept it and still use it! The only flaw, the plastic bayonet. As much as I'm careful, it's still plastic that could break with some wrong movement

samyang_7-5_fisheyeSamyang 7.5mm f/3.5 UMC Fisheye MFT

Pros: Sharpness, color rendering, compactness, lightness, construction

Cons: Cap that is easily lifted leaving the lens uncovered in the bag.

Opinion: Goal that returned on Amazon but with repentance. I bought it back used luckily in conditions like new at less than half the price. Excellent yield (well above the "cinesoni" of equal millimeters), the edges are also sharp. Colors with both my old Oly and today's G9 satisfy me so much. Really compact and very light. One thing that struck me a lot is that despite being a fisheeye it does not have a distortion so aggressive as not to be correctable, indeed I can often find an alignment that allows me to take the photo almost flat. Since it has a very good yield, even correcting the distortion you lose almost nothing in terms of quality which I noticed on the other 7.5mm "cinesoni". The only flaw is the cap, it goes away easily and in the past I found the lens inside the bag completely uncovered. Perhaps it would be appropriate to tighten it or to buy a third-party cap but better as an interlocking.

nikon_d610Nikon D610

Pros: Still great sensor, dynamic range, iso max seal at 6400

Cons: AF quite lazy and poor when there is little light.

Opinion: What to say it is a beautiful SLR, I still have it (bought used in 2017) and I think it will accompany me for a long time. The sensor churns out very good and malleable photos, the only flaw is the AF that is poor. It hooks little and is certainly not a sports SLR because with that AF will be more the wrong photos than those in focus. For macro landscapes portraits etc. is still very valid and professional today. It is now at human prices and I recommend it to have a professional FF without fainting!

manfrotto_mt190xpro3Manfrotto MT 190 X PRO3

Pros: Very stable, materials. Very quick to assemble.

Cons: at the moment none. I would have liked a bag to carry it as many other brands do

Opinion: Very Stable despite having mounted material quite at the limit of the flow rate. Excellent quality of materials, I have had it for a few years and still has not given signs of failure at the joints or in the "delicate" parts such as the foot sticks. I have used it in various situations and it has never disappointed me. I recommend this solution instead of the 4-leg version because I noticed, trying them both, which is much less stable than the 3-leg version.

7artisans_60macro_ii7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 Macro MKII

Pros: Price - Good materials and construction - size- light

Cons: Poor sharpness - MF not precise (for a macro it is a blasphemy)

Opinion: I was very disappointed. Tried both portrait and macro and I never had a decent sharpness. Tested in a 1:1 ratio on a "frayed" cable (many small copper filaments came out of the sheaths) and you could never focus, despite the peaking shone everywhere. Tested against a Nikon 50 Ais f1.4 + extension tube to understand if it was the Lumix G9 the problem and instead it is precisely this lens to be very poor unfortunately. Also here little price little yield. A cinesata I dare say

7artisans_7-5fisheye_ii7artisans 7.5mm f/2.8 Fisheye II

Pros: Price - Very good construction and materials - Very small size - Lightweight

Cons: Too soft at TA and even closing the aperture, I got something decent at f8.

Opinion: 169€ new but I find it definitely inferior to Samyang 7.5.Too much and I say too soft up to f8 (talking about the center). At the edges a colander, so soft that it had left me worried that it was my G9 that had problems with focus peaking. The focus is not very precise. The diaphragm ring is fluid and without jerks, too fluid enough to require a look at each shot. Low price little yield unfortunately

manfrotto_xpro_bhq2Manfrotto XPRO - BHQ2

Pros: Robust, stable and professional. Clutches are a really useful surplus

Cons: if I really have to write something I would say, perhaps, the weight but in the end it is the price to pay if you want robustness.

Opinion: I took it for Prime Day and I didn't regret it at all. Very robust and very comfortable to use. I like the system with the 3 clutches because it allows you to fine-tune all the movements. It manages to keep without any problem my D610 - 80-200th multiplier even in a horizontal position with my tripod MT 190 X PRO3 I am fully satisfied.

genesis_bh40Genesis BH-40

Pros: Lightweight, robust, lightweight, economical

Cons: For now nobody

Opinion: Here is my review of the Genesis C5 was a disappointment while on the head I found the opposite. rn I really liked it, kept my d700 + tamron 90mm strong (except unfortunately the tripod C5 dancing too much). It really costs little. rnrnNow next day I will see if I can attach it to my Manfrotto and I will surely evaluate the purchase of this head.

nikon_d700Nikon D700

Pros: Image quality, High ISO noise (max 6400 I pushed it), has a key for anything, comfortable, well-balanced, tropicalized handle

Cons: Weight (1 kg body only), since 2008 there are a few goodies that have today's reflexes (but I can do it a bit), battery a little undercurrent (arriving at almost 1000 shots), only CF memory card (I would have preferred SD for versatility)

Opinion: What a jewel. I could make several books to friends and acquaintances and never betrayed me. Even after sunset, raising the iso to 6400 I could make very good and useful shots. rnSave me several times allowing me to stay at 3200 iso and 1600iso with clean files. rnA precision focus I like a lot and it's an extra weapon for macros and landscapes, allowing me to retrieve 100% the use of some vintage MF lenses. rnIn addition, the focus button is not only in the shutter button but also slightly above the rear display. Often when you press the AF button repeatedly, the focus button is halfway, and often (macro first) you lose focus and you have to wait for it to return to focus or you need to focus manually by correcting the AF to sometimes it does not go. With the focus of a second button instead, once I focus it remains so and I can push the shot as it seems to me without losing anything, it is comfortable :) rnrn What else to say, satisfied and now to do some books or some event me I feel very quiet%21 rn

genesis_c5Genesis C5

Pros: --For its size is very very light, not bulky from closed. You can hook up to any backpack without too many worries for its reduced weight, which with the Manfrotto I can not do (in the end just buy a backpack more robuso from the side of the tripod and it resolves). --respectable equipment and good quality materials to the touch. --

Cons: It is not as described, 30kg are a little too many. Dancer, needs to be ballasted otherwise forget the stability. With a little sacrifice and save better take the Manfrotto.

Opinion: I could try this tripod a little while ago for the second time but this time for a week and along with my "hobby colleague" We went to the woods (with a C5 other than that I felt the first time I was very disappointed). Both with the C5 and the Manfrotto 190. I was undecided at the time whether to buy the 190 or the C5 and opted for the 190...... choice more than apt. The C5 is definitely more portable but if it is so dancer all its portability becomes useless. Tried with my D700 + Tamron 90 Macro has long dampening times while with the Manfrotto all perfect. A real shame, in a week of photographs if I did not have the Manfrotto I would have to throw my macros. While for photos to landscapes or static just wait for it to stabilize. In conclusion, I waited for the offer on the Internet and for €30 more I bought the Manfrotto, if I had bought this tripod I would have been disappointed because I would have ruined many pictures and made to wait too long.
