nikon_z600_f6-3Nikon Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S

Pros: The best in price/quality ratio

Cons: Nothing fundamental, apart from the usual stirrup foot that is too short and incompatible arcaswiss

Opinion: Superlative quality even at full aperture, almost instantaneous AF, an incredible bokeh, thanks to the 9 shutter blades. And then the weight and size, it almost looks like an increased 70-200mm. In combination with the Z8 but especially with the Z9, it forms a perfect and perfectly balanced combination. I have had all Nikon lenses with a Fresnel lens, but the quality of this 600mm is far superior to that of the old 300mm/4 PF ED VR with F mount and even the legendary Nikon 500mm/5.6 PF ED VR always with F mount, which I had until recently. Nikon has made great strides in the field of Fresnel lenses, which ensure stunning image quality with little pedestrian size. As I said, together with the Z9 it forms a perfect combination, in fact the camera body seems even heavier. In any case, the center of gravity is perfect and you grip it well. Ultimately an impeccable construction from all points of view, even the lens hood has become a serious thing and not like all the previous Nikon lens hoods. Also aesthetically beautiful, with its golden ring and silver lettering. On the other hand, it is a Premium lens from the S-line series, i.e. professional, It is worth all its money. I am absolutely satisfied.

nikon_z_fcNikon Z fc

Pros: Vintage look, file quality, versatility, lightness, rings and controls in the right place

Cons: Grip, battery flap, price, lack of a second memory card

Opinion: For me, coming from pre-Jurassic analog, it was like going back to my glorious old Nikon FM2 New. So my opinion from this point of view is a bit biased. Using the Z9 for some time I have flanked it as a second alternative body when I want to be light. For this reason I have joined a good number of Z DX lenses but obviously you can also use the professional Z series S lenses. The grip is not very good and I preferred to buy the original Nikon GR1 extension that costs a mistake. With the GR1 it's perfect. The Z fc is a vintage mask, in the sense that you can use it as an old Nikon analog manual, with priority of times or aperture, or as a digital of the latest generation, on the level or perhaps higher than the D500 for example, with files of over 20 Mpix and burst greater than 10 ftg / sec. The autofocus very good but not lightning. The setting of the menus is practically the same as the latest generation Z. For a Nikonista it is a matter of seconds to become familiar with the Z fc. It costs a little bit especially with the addition of the original handle, but so much ... It is an almost vintage piece ???. It is a very fun toy, a toy that gives you high-level files even shooting only in jpg, ideal for walks or tourism when you want to stay light. It attracts curiosity but is never intrusive.

nikon_z70-200_f2-8Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S

Pros: The best 70-200mm/2.8 Nikkor I've ever had. Sharpness, color rendering, balance, autofocus

Cons: High price but the quality is excellent

Opinion: Purchased a few months ago, I used it on both Z6II and Z7II, and for less than 15 days I have been trying it with the brand new Z9. Extraordinary at full aperture, it gives its maximum at f/5.6. Despite the maximum aperture of f/2.8 it gives a very pleasant blur in the typical intermediate portrait focal lengths, 85mm and 105mm. Only the Z 85mm f/1.8S slightly exceeds it, I refer to the blurred, not to the sharpness that is amazing I also tried it with the brand new TC 2.0X obtaining a focal length of 400mm f / 5.6 with really good motorcycle results. Nothing to do with the old TC 2.0X II applied to the 70-200 f/2.8 F mount.... too soft. Ultimately it is superb telephoto lens, which has an almost perfect color rendering and well-balanced colors.

nikon_z20_f1-8sNikon Z 20mm f/1.8 S

Pros: Excellent even at full aperture, minimal vignetting and nothing or almost no ghost images. Very incisive and detailed.

Cons: Certainly the weight and partly also the price

Opinion: Used on both Z7II and Z9 it offers a beautiful superlative microcontrast and sharpness. I use it with satisfaction because it is lighter and less bulky than the 14-24 when I do not want to carry too much weight with me. At f/4 it's pretty much perfect. It holds the backlight very well. I am of the opinion that the Z optics, especially if S-Line like this, are superior to the corresponding ones with F mount. Too bad that the hoods are always questionable

nikon_z24-120_f4Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4 S

Pros: One of the best all-rounder zooms, the focal length range covers almost all photographic needs, with the exception of specialist ones. Efficient color rendering, excellent contrast and tonal range. Excellent even at full opening

Cons: A slight vignetting at f/4 correctable in PP, pesantuccio and maybe a little expensive, but it is an S-line zoom

Opinion: Great all-rounder zoom to take with you when you don't want weight. I've been using it with satisfaction for a few days on Z9 and it's amazing. At the moment I do not find flaws but honestly I have only taken a few hundred shots. I believe that the Z optics are far compared to the corresponding ones with F-mount. I don't know if it's also thanks to the Z9, but it's certainly a well-built and well-balanced goal.

nikon_z9Nikon Z9

Pros: Pretty much everything, beyond all my expectations. Feeling, handling, performance, autofocus speed, impressive burst in RAW or JPEG, beyond the real needs, without any blackout on the monitor or in the viewfinder, fantastic color rendering!

Cons: Nothing, not even the price in relation to performance, both compared to the professional SLRs of Nikon itself, and to the products of other brands.

Opinion: I think I was one of the lucky few to have it on Christmas Eve, but I had booked it for months. I have always been a Nikonist, but not biased or fanatical, having had professional cameras, analog or digital, of many other brands such as Hasselblad, Olympus, Sony. What can I say after such a short time? I took less than a thousand shots, mostly practical tests in the field, in different light conditions. I tried it especially with the excellent Z 24-120mm f/4S all-rounder zoom, but also with the 20mm, the 24-70mm f/2.8, the 70-200mm and the 50mm all Z optics. And true, I only did practical tests, photos in the field, which is what interests me the most. The perfect feeling and handling for my hands. Creepy autofocus even in low light, extraordinary color rendering, exaggerated definition, even the audio file that simulates and reproduces the sound of the electronic shutter is pleasant. I was impressed by the fact that even shooting bursts at 120 fps in JPEG from 11 Mpix , which I believe I will never use, neither monitor nor viewfinder have darkened. From my point of view, and with many years of photography on my shoulders, it could be the ultimate camera for my needs. My rating is 9.9/10 just because perfection does not exist.

nikon_z7Nikon Z7

Pros: Ergonomics, file quality and cleanliness, resolution, lightness, electronic viewfinder and display quality

Cons: Presence of only one memory card, price, location of some buttons

Opinion: I've owned it for an exact year, along with Nikon's top reflexes like the D5 D850 and D500. Having also top-of-the-range Sony, such as A7RIV and A9, I will try to express my opinion not to make a comparison between the two ML systems but simply because I use both systems. The Nikon Z7 is a D850 with some advantages but also with some disadvantage. The Nikon menu is the organization of the same is the best ever, it makes no sense to compare it to that of Sony which is painful and twisted. Battery life is modest but I bypassed the fake problem by taking the dedicated Battery Grip which thus improves the already good ergonomics. Instead, a single slot is really a big limitation. The burst (for bird photographer or sports) is ridiculous and the memory buffer is almost non-existent, and to become decent you have to either shoot only in jpeg or raw 12-bit. The AF is sometimes uncertain. And so it's useless just to think of using the Z7 for photo hunting or for sport. It's crazy. The Z7 is extraordinary in other genres, such as portraiture, especially after the recent firmware update, in the landscape, in studio photography. In short, a beautiful object that has a lot of limitations and you immediately understand that Nikon came out with the Z series lagging behind Sony and with serious shortcomings. Hopefully in the models to come, maybe Z8 and Z9. I only took the native 24-70/2.8, extraordinary optics. Having an entire Nikon kit from 10 to 500mm, in other cases I use the adapter, which makes the overall balance a little worse. My vote is 6... a sufficient with reserve, maybe the Z6 is better.

sony_fe100-400ossSony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS

Pros: Excellent zoom with a perfect focal excursion in many circumstances, if you do not want to do extreme photo hunting.

Cons: Price, bracket too short

Opinion: Optical quality and superb definition even at full open. The max aperture f4.5 is already lost at 170mm more or less, so better to consider it as if it were a f/5.6! To subsitate the ridiculously short bracket. I took an LCF-101 replacement foot at B&H in the US. Zomm almost all-rounder, superlative sharpness as I said. It's more than the 200-600 I've already reviewed, in my opinion. We can say that the two Sony zooms have different purposes. With the TC 1.4 X goes great and there is no visible performance drop.

sony_fe200-600Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS

Pros: Wide focal excursion without stretching the barrel, good construction and good also the AF

Cons: Price, ridiculous bracket, a bit soft at 600mm

Opinion: Such a zoom is bought to use it especially at extreme focal points, 500 and 600mm. Here in diaphragm all open (6,3) I find it a more soft. On the other hand as maximum opening is similar to the competition in this price range, with the difference that it costs more. It is usable quietly with the TC 1.4 X but it becomes an f/9 and then it takes a lot of light to not go too far with ISOs. I recommend replacing the bracket that is too short. I took from B&H in U.S. a "Wimberley AP-620 Replacement Foot". Ultimately it's a good zoom with some obvious limitations, but for me the optical quality is a little lower than the small 100-400mm GM. Better to use it with an A9 than with an A7 as I do because otherwise the noise becomes harder to handle. Promoted with reservation. The freehand weight is still felt, although less for example 6 or 700 grams compared to the Sigma Sport 150-600 that I also had.

sony_fe24-70gmSony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM

Pros: A great standard zoom with which you can do pretty much anything. The quality is typical of the GM series

Cons: Weight, cost, plastic lampshade

Opinion: Excellent zoom lens of the GM series to have absolutely in the bag. The maf is lightning fast, the quality even at full opening is deadly apart from a slight vignette. It has an extraordinary sharpness. I use it with an A7r4 and on some occasions it's still amazing. I use other brands with the classic 24-70/2.8 and this one from Sony competes with everyone.

sony_fe24-105_f4ossSony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS

Pros: Great all-rounder, well built, tropicalized, robust, good focal excursion, excellent AF

Cons: Plastic lampshade, lens not very light and still overpriced

Opinion: I use it with an A7RIV and I almost always get good results. The minimum diaphragm is not a problem because the stabilization is great. It is an irreplaceable travel companion, without serious defects. I just vignette a little bit. It suffers a bit of flare and it is better to avoid the extreme backlit, but this is something that applies with every zoom

sony_a7r_ivSony A7r IV

Pros: Sensor quality, good ergonomics, autofocus speed, image management software, tracking and/or eye-detection excel compared to the competition

Cons: Menu organization still very insufficient, noise even at medium high ISO, however understandable in such a sensor. Modest electronic viewfinder quality despite increased resolution, just enough for the 3-inch display

Opinion: The A7RIV has only small real improvements compared to the previous model., except of course the sensor. The italian translation of the menus and the organization of the menus is unacceptable. Certain terms are ridiculous like "Entry." You need a photographer who translates correctly. The ability to change contrast, brightness and color temperature of both the viewfinder and the monitor is very modest compared to the competition. In addition, the image in the crosshairs is still too artificial. I speak as someone who knows the world Nikon, Canon, Leica, Olympus, Hasselblad perfectly and I say this because I have used other machines for years or used. Finally, the price is exaggerated precisely for the reasons just mentioned. There are also other shortcomings that I prevent from pointing out. Ultimately, however, is it a good machine that is perhaps designed to compete with machines that churn out 100 mpix files and cost 10,000 euros or more? I think that's a pretty poor reason. I recommend taking the Battery Pack as well.

nikon_500_f5-6pf_vrNikon AF-S 500mm f/5.6 E PF ED VR

Pros: Very light, compact, very well balanced, extraordinary sharpness even at full aperture and fast AF

Cons: Lens hood of questionable quality taking into account the price of this lens that is not given, VR sometimes noisy but effective

Opinion: I use it with great satisfaction both on FF bodies (Nikon D5, D850, Z7) and on the Nikon D500, with which it makes perfect torque, for handling and balance. With the TC14E III the quality remains excellent, pity that you lose a stop and so if the light conditions are not optimal, you are forced to work with higher ISOS. The fuzzy is very good although not comparable to that obtainable with a classic tele that does not use Fresnel lenses. The fact of being able to use it freehand (weighs like the 70-200) with ease for hours is worth only the price, especially since the overall quality is very high. Let's not forget that on a DX body like the D500 is worth 750mm and, with the TC14 even 1050mm). Ultimately I am very satisfied with this supertele! The VR is effective and with static subject you gain up to 4 stops.

nikon_afs300_f4pfNikon AF-S 300mm f/4 E PF ED VR

Pros: Compactness and extraordinary lightness, excellent stability, color rendering and in the AF speed

Cons: Cost, hood cheap

Opinion: I use it with satisfaction for almost a year, alternatively with the excellent 200-500m Nikkor f / 5.6, however, much heavier. I use it almost exclusively in the touring photographic hunt with the D500, almost always with TC14E III, which then gives me a very respectable focal, a 630mm f / 5.6 constant that is not little. The stabilizer is incredible, about 4 stops, the maf immediate (at least with the D500) and the yield of the very natural and pleasing colors. I disagree with a review that appeared long ago on N-Photography, which placed him among the last of various telephoto lenses of various brands (Nikon, Tamron, Sigma etc.). This type of test leaves me very puzzled, and for me are worth more field testing and the feelings I get when I look at a picture I did. That said, for me it is also very good at the maximum aperture, but the biggest advantage that I really appreciate is just what its size and weight, less than a Nikon 24-70mm f / 2.8. We have to think that walking with a D500 to colloe This 300mm and doubler is really fun, and freedom of movement allows for excellent shots, without working too. Fortunately now the price is slightly decreased, but it costs more fairly. Ultimately for those who love traveling photo hunt is an objective must-have in your kit.

nikon_coolpix_p900Nikon Coolpix P900

Pros: incredible zoom range, excellent stabilizer for a bridge, relatively compact and lightweight

Cons: battery life, a little too plastic, unusable beyond ISO 400 unless there is a good light, very mediocre viewfinder

Opinion: I've had it about a year as a walking handyman or when I do not want weight. The qualities are these: really good lens with an amazing zoom range up to 2000 mm Equival. with excellent stabilizer, provided there is a good light. If the light is bad better leave it at home, or not exceed 100 ISO! RnI defects are those of a bridge that so I am not to list. The display can be seen well only if there is bright light. Better instead give up the viewfinder. The aperture range is poor, since the 400-500mm you work only at f / 6.3 and changing the exposure you have to work only on the timing because in these cases not funzioba the over / under intentional exposure. So in summary: build quality 7, 8 optical quality, stabilizer 9

sigma_12-24_f4artSigma 12-24mm f/4 DG HSM Art

Pros: build quality, sharpness, excellent restitution of colors, virtually absent distortion, good resistance to flare

Cons: Weight, impossible to use conventional filters, not weather sealed

Opinion: It is an extraordinary zoom, with a punch and a very good resolution even at full aperture, and good at the edges. Closing stop of 1-2 is a blade. The color rendering is very natural and pleasant shooting in raw. Absurd to use it with an SLR not FF. A 12-14 mm requires a lot of attention in the second half and in terms of viewing. Unless they do not want special effects, it is not easy to keep the car on the bubble at the minimum focal length. I use it with satisfaction with a Nikon D750. Minimum distortion and flare peaticamente almost nulla.Il weight is remarkable but understandable. Costa semore but less competition. The word "ART" is consistent with the performance. It is not an easy goal, I highly recommend to those who love the ultra-wide angle zoom.
