Pros: Image quality, reach to 120mm, versatility, constant aperature, fast

Cons: No image stabilization, but not really necessary with IBIS

Opinion: I still have my 24-120mm f/4 G lens which sometimes takes a hit in reviews, but it has worked wonderfully for me in the past. I purchased the Z 24-70mm f/4 prior to the Z 24-120mm becoming available, and found that to be a wonderful lens for an f/4. However, this Z 24-120mm far surpasses those two lenses, in terms of image quality and usefulness. I have taken hundreds of photos with this lens and in many cases, the images required very little editing in post. My one minor worry with lenses such as these is that they can sometimes be a little too 'digital.' That is also an easy adjustment in post. I have used this lens primarily for landscape and as a true walking-around lens. I have used it occasionally for indoor shots, but I prefer to use my primes for those purposes. The customizable Control Ring and Fn button are also big pluses. From f/4 to f/8, the images sharpness and contrast are phenomenal. I used this lens for long-exposure waterfall photography, along with a filter, without any difficulty other than the sun being just a bit too bright on one occasion. I would highly recommend this lens as a first or kit lens over any others, if you are looking for a general purpose, walk-around, lens. I do not regret my purchase whatsoever. BTW, nice sunstars sometimes at f/8.

Pros: Sharpness, contrast, flare resistance, focal range

Cons: Honestly, it's hard to find one

Opinion: The Photographylife site has elected it the best Nikon lens ever, now these comparisons leave the time they find, what is true is that it is a really fantastic lens for its purpose. To make it a landscape, what I was looking for was a zoom with a good focal range, excellent sharpness, and good behavior in difficult light conditions, such as backlighting. This lens best responds to all the previous points and is in fact the lens that made me make the leap to the Nikon Z system. Especially in terms of optical quality it is really excellent, quality equal to the 24-70 F/4 but with a focal range that is double. If we then look at the competition, given that the equivalents stop at 105 mm, looking at all the various reviews I did not find a lens on par. In addition to sharpness, excellent behavior in difficult light conditions with almost total absence of flare and beautiful sunstars. It is not super-light, but neither is it heavy, in line if not below with the direct competitors of other brands. If we want to find faults, distortion is important especially at 24 mm, but perfectly canceled out by the correction in the car. It also has no internal zoom, but it can also be seen as an advantage, because otherwise the footprint would have been really important. Highly recommended goal!

Pros: All-open sharpness, contrast

Cons: Weight and dimensions

Opinion: After playing for a long time with the 24-200Z with which I shot a lot I decided to go towards the 24-120S to have a little more engraving at full aperture and the choice was spot on. On the other hand, quality is paid in terms of weight and bulk (if you think of the 24-200) but if I could go back I would repeat my choice, it is really an excellent lens. Even at the autofocus level, playing with the various automatisms, it hardly misses shots, just perhaps with the "photo-trap" shots following the latest updates but I think it depends on the camera body more than on the lens itself.

Pros: Versatility, optical performance, weight, focal range, S line.....

Cons: Nothing for me

Opinion: First of all, I would like to say that making a comparison with fixed lenses I find it meaningless, if you buy a zoom you have to compare it to another lens in its category, I made the choice based on the younger brother 24/70 F 4 S of which I was already satisfied but I wanted to add those 50 mm that allow me to leave other lenses at home and travel lighter, mission accomplished. Traded in taking advantage of the cash back I didn't even suffer that much from the cost. Before making the purchase I was able to do comparison tests thanks to the shopkeeper who allowed me to shoot freely with the two lenses mentioned, in my opinion the differences are few and minimal, the 24/120 I find it more "gripable" excellent the choice of buttons that I find comfortable to set quick functions, the stabilizer is true but from Z6 onwards the stabilized sensor compensates abundantly. In my shots I found a better definition in the night by the 24/120 perhaps because of some higher quality lens compared to the 24/70 but nothing exaggerated, for everything else they both behave well, I use it on Nikon Z8 and sometimes I even go to DX with a remarkable quality despite the cropped sensor. Definitely recommended.

Pros: Focal range, quality returned to all focal lengths/apertures, build quality, customizable ring.

Cons: Vignetting present at full opening.

Opinion: An excellent all-rounder, honestly I would never have thought to see such image quality returned by a 5x zoom: great sharpness in the center and in the midframe, it drops a little at the edges but still remaining in the field of excellence. And this at all focal lengths and all apertures! I made a direct comparison with the 50 f/1.8 S photographing the same scene with both lenses (the 24-120 clearly set to 50) at f/4: I didn't use laboratory techniques, but at sight the results are perfectly superimposable, only at the edges you can perceive the best quality of the fixed. I was very amazed by this zoom performance. I have not yet detected chromatic aberrations, instead I have noticed a rather evident presence of vignetting at f/4, more or less at all focal lengths; easily solvable in post anyway. Coupled with a fixed light (I chose the 50 f/1.8 S) it constitutes a compact, effective and very high quality kit; of course it has its cost, but for me (especially if you find it used) the money you spend is worth it all. Highly recommended!
