![]() | Nikon AF-S 24mm f/1.4 G ED Pros: Sharpness, three-dimensionality Cons: I don't think he has any Opinion: Lens that I have had the opportunity to use for a few days thanks to the kind loan of my friend Alessandro Vannucci and I can say that I understand why he is so fond of this 24mm! A truly well-made and high-performance lens that is able to create unique atmospheres. It will be really "painful" to have to return it to its rightful owner! Lens highly recommended! sent on January 04, 2025 |
![]() | Leica SL2-S Pros: Ergonomics for a mirrorless camera. Build quality.colors. Jpg in the car. White balance. Serious tropicalization. Fantastic electronic viewfinder. Cons: A bit heavy for a mirrorless. Manual ISO adjustment only in full stops. AFC can be improved. Fixed screen Opinion: A serious mirrorless camera that gives you a feeling of enormous solidity just by picking it up. The electronic viewfinder is the best I've tried in more than ten years of using mirrorless cameras. The management of iso even at values of 12500 and above is really good. The files are rich and very workable. In the hand it holds very well and is well balanced even with optics of a certain weight. The battery lasts very little, the autofocus prefers a photograph that is not too dynamic, but all this is fine with me. The thing I really don't like is the fact that I can only adjust the ISO value in full stops if you shoot in manual exposure. Used with Leica M lenses, it conveys all the Leica "flavor" that many love. A great car that is challenging (economically speaking) to dress properly if you want to stay in the context of the German brand. sent on September 01, 2024 |
![]() | Leica Apo-Summicron-M 90mm f/2 ASPH Pros: optical quality, colors, contrast, sharpness, blur, build quality. Cons: ergonomics Opinion: this Summicron is yet another gift given to me by my wife. I'm thrilled! finding faults with this lens is really difficult. It reproduces very pleasing images with colors, contrast and sharpness in line with the name it bears. The images you get with this 90mm have all the "flavor and character" typical of Leica glass. The build quality is nothing less than what you expect when you buy a Leica glass. All metal and glass with a functional and sturdy built-in paralucw. The price is also on its side because it is among the least expensive of the entire Leica M range. If found used then it is a mega deal. I bought my used car in mint condition for 1100 euros! The only thing that doesn't drive me crazy about this lens is the ergonomics. The focus ring is perfectly frictioned and very pleasant to operate but, in my opinion, not positioned in the most convenient point to reach, it is narrow, it is devoid of any relief or pawl that can facilitate its use and has a very long excursion. In short, it allows you to focus very precisely but not very comfortably. Although I have counted this thing as a con, it can be considered almost ridiculous. I would therefore recommend it to everyone. It is almost impossible not to fall in love with it. sent on August 28, 2024 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 16-35mm f/4 G ED VR Pros: Versatile, robust, responsive and accurate af, beautiful colors Cons: Easily damaged lens hood with coupling Opinion: Reading the reviews that precede mine, you can laugh. As usual, the truth lies somewhere in between. This 16-35 may not be the best choice for those who only do landscapes and/or architecture but for a use of reportage, street and travel photography it is definitely a good choice. In the center it is sharp at any aperture, the colors are good, the autofocus and the stabilizer work well, the focal range is the best you can have for uses above citati.il problem of possible infiltration of moisture and dust is easily solved with a protective filter. The weight and size are in the norm of this category of lenses.distortions and not good angles at 16mm.... More fat laugh. We're talking about 16mm and we're not talking about a Zeiss or even the 14-24! In short, exaggerated comments aside, I consider it a very valid tool for street reportage and travel in general. ![]() | Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Pros: Sharp, fast, precise. Cons: Painting Opinion: Years ago I had the first version which optically was very good but the autofocus was slow and noisy. A couple of years ago I tried the version before this one and it didn't excite me at all. A few months ago I found this super used and even a bit abused G2 for 350$ and I got it. I am very satisfied. Sharp, beautiful colors, good contrast and with an AF that finally does its job flawlessly and quietly.I use it on D850 and D6 and it focuses perfectly with both camera bodies. The same goes for the stabilizer. The only defects I found are the bayonet of the lens hood that after a while grains and no longer engages precisely and the paintwork. I'm not a fan of aesthetics and I think that cameras and lenses are made to be used, interesting, but it must be said that the paint job of this G2 is really ridiculous. The barrel scratches when you look at it. Too bad. Found used is definitely a bargain! sent on January 13, 2024 |
![]() | Nikon D850 Pros: construction, file quality, dynamic range. Cons: The battery life does not seem as exciting as the viewfinder. Opinion: bought used at a very advantageous price. I think I gave myself another nice gift. I had no problem familiarizing myself with this machine because I already own the D6 and the menu and settings are completely superimposable. The files it produces are rich and very workable. I don't know if it's just the D850 or just my specimen but it seems to me that it underexposes a little. I wait that does not bother me at all, indeed ... The feeling in use is typical of any high-end SLR. Solid and well built. I was positively surprised by the dynamic range of its sensor and the iso management. I thought that such a dense sensor had more problems to handle iso values above 2000. There are some things that do not make me crazy about this D850 but my judgment is probably spoiled by the fact that I use both this machine and the D6 and therefore there are things that, if compared, make you turn up your nose a little. For example, the viewfinder. I read enthusiastic reviews on the viewfinder of the D850 but it absolutely does not stand comparison with that of the D6. The same applies to the rendering of autofocus. It is very good but, again, when compared to that of the D6..... Let's say you notice the difference. The battery life I thought was also better. But even here weighs the fact that that of the D6 is inevitably more durable. I did not understand what motivation has the choice by Nikon to equip the D850 with two memory card slots in two different formats. For the rest I can say that it is a great car. I am pleased to know that I own the two cameras that represent the pinnacle of the development of the SLR sector of a brand like Nikon. If found used and if you already have Nikon F lenses it is definitely a recommended purchase. sent on October 03, 2023 |
![]() | Nikon D6 Pros: Robustness, reliability, AF speed, high iso yield, battery life, colors, workability of files. Viewfinder. Ergonomics. Cons: The weight, after a few hours is felt. The price is certainly not affordable for everyone. Lack of light aid af. Opinion: After years of Fujifil and Sony I got used to the mirrorless system very well. Unfortunately, my living in Cambodia has put me in front of a problem. 4 years of tropical humidity killed two of my Sonys. So I decided that the next machine had to be an indestructible tank. At that time I was in Kazakhstan and the only car with such characteristics that I could find there was the D6. Taken at a much lower price than it cost in Italy. It took me some time to get used to the SLR system but now I'm really glad I got it. Awesome af, great high iso management. Beautiful colors and very workable files. The battery is practically eternal. In addition, it gives me a very pleasant feeling the fact of having a tool in my hand that does not fear shocks, humidity or dust or splashes. In short, if it did not weigh what it weighs it would be perfect. Having it around your neck from morning to night as I do is a bit gnarly but you get used to it. Simply amazing viewfinder! In my opinion the 21mpx are enough and advance to do everything. Since Nikon has practically closed the SLR development department and since in the meantime equally solid and performing models have appeared, I would not recommend it. If you find a used D5 or even a D4s then you will still have an indestructible machine with af capabilities and high iso practically equal but at a much lower price. This does not mean that the D6 is not a great car! PS. Despite having a fabulous af system I would still have preferred it to be equipped with the light to help focus. sent on March 06, 2023 |

Equipped with a fast and accurate af. It produces images of a three-dimensionality to scream. It is tropicalized properly and in addition it is my favorite focal length! Since it is the last fixed pro range of the Nikon line for SLR I like to think that it is also more updated than the fabulous but older 24-35-85mm. Always a proponent of 28mm as a focal all-rounder, I think it will be almost impossible to remove it from the D6. Rated 15!:):):) sent on January 23, 2023 |
![]() | Panasonic Lumix S 50mm f/1.8 Pros: All Cons: The tactile sensation reminiscent of a toy Despite being sharp and with pleasant colors, it lacks character / personality. Returns somewhat anonymous photos. For what it costs you can't expect more. Opinion: After reading Lucabn's review I am convinced that his specimen may be defective. This fifty is loved for many reasons. Small, light, sharp, contrasted and fairly fast in afs. On the SL2S it performs very well. Of course the feeling of absolute plastic is not exciting but it must be said that it is solid and well done. The only real "flaw", in my opinion, is the lack of personality and character of the files it produces. For $350 you can't ask for more! Paid $350 on Adorama. Image quality superior to many more famous and much more expensive lenses. Advised. sent on January 03, 2023 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 E ED VR Pros: Sharpness, af speed, VR Cons: Cartoon!!! Opinion: The overall optical quality is truly remarkable as well as the sharpness and autofocus. The stabilizer does its duty great. I do not consider the weight, size and price of the cons as you know before buying it. What instead is a real con and it turns out only after buying it is the fact that it vignettes so much, too much. It is true that for my photographic genre the vignette does not disturb too much and it is also true that it is easily removable but it is still an optical defect that in a lens of this level and this price is not expected! Even if it were a Voigtlander f1.4 from 15 years ago it is a few hundred euros!!! for the rest this 24-70 is a great glass that in focal lengths up to 50mm has very little to envy to the fixed. Give each image a touch of art. Very beautiful colors and a sharpness appropriate to the use for which it was conceived. The af quite responsive and definitely precise. Weight and bulk quite contained since we are talking about an 85mm f1.4 for ff reflex. price in line with those of the "pro" line of Nikon. The hood is actually "poor". ![]() | Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.4 G ED Pros: sharpness, colors, blurred af fast and precise Cons: probably nothing Opinion: I have had this lens for a couple of months and, although I have not yet used it intensely, I can safely say that it is a great lens. it has everything you need to be called a great lens! Beautiful colors, good contrast, sharpness in abundance, fast and precise focus and a general rendering that makes you understand that it will stay with you for a long time. I read that many complain about plastics, both the body and the caps and hood. Actually the front cap and the hood are not a reference but you can easily live with it and I would not make it a tragedy. weights and dimensions seem to me to be appropriate to the class of the lens itself. As well as the price. Highly recommended. sent on June 29, 2022 |
![]() | Sony FE 50mm f/1.2 GM Pros: Pretty much everything Cons: I would have preferred it lighter Opinion: A lens that makes you fall in love and makes you want to photograph. Impeccably built like all GMs. It offers a really nice blur and the detachment of the planes is remarkable both at full aperture and at f2.8 and also at f4. The sharpness is extreme, even too much in my opinion. The contrast is incredible. The af system also works very well on machine bodies that lack speed and accuracy. Both vignetting and aberrations are very well controlled. Of course to build a 50mm f1.2 there are physical and dimensional proportions to be respected and therefore I am aware of the fact that Sony technicians have almost done a miracle in producing this GM smaller and lighter (even cheaper) than the competition. The fact remains that for those like me who love the mirrorless system for weights and dimensions, this 50mm f1.2 is a bit 'at the limit. Each of his images gives emotions. The bokeh that produces I really like and reminds me of that of the 85 GM but this 50mm is superior to the 85 in many other aspects. In my opinion, if you love the 50mm focal length then it is worth making the economic sacrifice that this 50mm entails. I think it's impossible not to fall in love with it. ![]() | Sony A7r II Pros: Sensor Cons: Typical of first and second generation A7xxx Opinion: After almost a year of intense use of this machine I can express my opinion. I say that I only do street and portraits set therefore, both the pros and cons, should be seen from this point of view. I really like the sensor and the files it produces. Even in jpg gives me what I need without having to complicate my life with very heavy raw and very long pp. 42mpx are not always necessary, indeed in my field they do not really serve. But they give me a chance to crop how much and how I want and still have a Mr. File. The APS-C mode function is very useful because it still produces 18mpx files and therefore each fixed lens becomes a small zoom as needed. THE ISO management is not mind-blowing but it is still good given the density of the sensor. The dynamic range is very good and keeps you in line with the other A7xxx. In general it is a slow machine. Not very fast the Af. Not very fast writing files and not very fast operation in general. Being passionate about manual lenses I had regrets and exaltations with this machine. The 42mpx sensor undermines some manual targets (and not only) that less powerful sensors gave me great satiation and with this instead show all their limits. The only manual lens that gets excited with this machine is my fantastic Zeiss ZM Distagon T.35mm f1.4 with that and the sensor of the A7rII I discovered new horizons!!! Many complain about battery life. For me it's something not to even take into account and I laugh when I read such comments. The batteries are so small and light that keeping a couple of spares in your pocket does not bother you and to replace the battery takes less than 10 seconds. So what are we talking about??? I and I had Sony A7 of the first and the secinda generation and in this A7rII I see the same flaws as the others. Ergonomics, slowness, operation etc. Having never tried any third- or fourth-generation Sony A7s, I can't say if the defects listed have been fixed or belong to sony DNA. Overall a good machine but not absolutely perfect. For the genre that I do and for the files that give me instead I can say that I will hardly change it! Vote 9 MS sent on April 30, 2020 |
![]() | Sony FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Sonnar T* Pros: Light, good image quality, construction, colors Cons: It doesn't make me cry "to the miracle" but I don't see any flaws Opinion: I decided to sell my 85mm GM because I wanted something a shorter focal and especially smaller and lighter than the 85mm. In this I have achieved my purpose. I move much better doing street with a 55mm that weighs less than 300g compared to before with an 85mm of almost 900g. So I don't regret making that choice. For everything else, however, this 55mm has not thrilled me yet and maybe never will. Speaking of what I do not like I would say that even the size could be even smaller. At the end of the day it's a 55mm f1.8! The first impressions, of the first months of use, were not exciting. I felt it inferior to everything I had read about him until that day. Then, after taking him out of the car for a few weeks, I gave him a new opportunity. In the meantime I changed the setting of my af and now it's like I have a new lens in my hand. Now it gives me satisfaction. I still do not consider it a phenomenon but, now that we have become friends, I have finally started to rejoice and receive images that I like and that give me satisfaction. Before, using it on the A7rII in AF-S I had a good percentage of photos not perfectly in focus and therefore it was also fallacious the perception of its intrinsic sharpness. Now it is very good even at ta and enhances even more something that I liked right away. The colors. I don't know how much of Zeiss there is in this lens but the colors, for sure, are much more Zeiss than Sony! Beautiful indeed. Speaking of blurry and "magic" after having the 85GM........ I get a little sick. However this 55 has character and "stamp" and this is what I have always looked for in a lens. So now I feel good and I get what I want. I'm satisfied. As usual some who reviewed it have counted among the flaws silly things as the price is aesthetics. The flaw, by definition, is an unexpected thing that one was unaware of. The price is high but you know it before you buy it. The aesthetics....... we are talking about a pair of shoes to wear on Sunday or a lens to be mounted on the machine with which to take pictures????? My current kit consists of 28mm (fabulous) and this 55. In two they weigh less than half a kg and I keep them in my pocket. For my kind of photography these are things to be counted in the merits. Recommended. Vote 9 MS sent on March 09, 2020 |
![]() | Sony FE 28mm f/2 Pros: General performance, size, weight, price Cons: I would have liked it to be tropicalized Opinion: I have owned this 28mm for 3 years now and for at least two years it has been the everyday lens for my street photography. I can say that I had a very good feeling with this lens right away. Combined with the A7s he created a really good, accurate and efficient tool for me. As well as discreet and portable. For a few months I also own the A7s2 and the A7r2 and this 28mm continues to amaze me even on these two machine bodies. I have to admit, with the A7r2 sensor, it's a little bit on the edge. Limit, however, that is only noticeable in certain situations. That is, at full opening and at the minimum distance of maf. Just close to f2.8 and it's perfect or just stay at least 50cm from the subject. I do practically only street and therefore the occasions when I happen to be less than half a meter from the subject are really few. At full opening, making portraits where only head and shoulders are framed, he manages to give interesting and effective blurry. The colors, contrast and 3D that gives are reminiscent of much more expensive and ephaly ephaly lenses. The af is quiet, fast and precise. I'm a little bit ad f2 but it's not a drama for me. Indeed! However vignette and distortions are easily removable in pp. So, in summary, the size, the weight, the fovale, the performance make it practically perfect for use of street and reportage. The price then is the icing on the cake. The build quality is not like that of G's or GMs but it is obviously understandable given the cost of both! Had it been entirely theopicalized it would have been (for me) just perfect. I can still say that I scrambled enough for more than two years in hot, humid conditions, incredible dust and even under the snow and in temperatures of -20 and I have never experienced any malfunction. In short, if the street, the reportage, the travel photography is your sector then you can not not have it with you. You're going to have a hard time getting him out of the car. Super recommended. ![]() | Sony A7s II Pros: The sensor in general Cons: Nothing really serious Opinion: I took this car after having for 3 years the previous (A7s) I had fallen in love with. What about this A7sII? I love it! The sense is really interesting, with its 12mpx that work wonders. It's only 12, but they really give you a lot. Almost all my photos are chrome, some even in a heavy way and yet the file comes out winning. The hold at high ISO is very good and the dynamic range is really remarkable. Compared to series 1, ergonomics has improved and now the shutter button is finally where it should be. The stabilizer does its job. For my photigraphic genre it is a great machine and the af also satisfies me. I have noticed that, although I also own the A7rII, and without wanting to make comparisons, I must admit that I have a feeling and a lanking understanding with this A7sII that with the A7rII. Leather chesrione! In short, if you have used at least once the A7s then in this you will find everything that was good in the previous series plus some improvements not egregious. A little bit everything works better than before but not exaggeratedly. Recommended. sent on October 12, 2019 |
![]() | Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM Pros: Pretty much everything Cons: Cost, annoying engine noise af Opinion: It is very true that you often come across better successful and worst-performed copies of the same article. I say this because I'm still laughing after reading the review that precedes mine. Anyway, let's go in order. Construction quality as befits a professional-grade product. Metal, well coupled, well finished and tropicalized. The lampshade is also well made with anti-reflection material inside and rubber ring on top. This 85mm has the diaphragm ring on the barrel and this is a very familiar thing to me since for years I use mainly manual lenses. The dial in question can be selected with or without clicking. I would have preferred it a little more frictiony instead it's pretty soft. The dimensions and weights are considerable but are physiological given the needs of modern sensors. My copy (I say so given the review that precedes mine) enjoys a very good sharpness already at full opening. The closing of one or two stops is only by virtue of the depth of field you want to get and certainly not for lack of sharpness. The af system behaves in different ways depending on the machine body that has to control it. In this I totally agree with the previous review. The only downside of this lens is, for me, the annoying noise that produces the af moped. Sounds like the sound of some broken. Like the first-generation Fujifilm XF lenses. The blurred is very good and manages (to extreme openings) to pull the subject out of the context around it. Over the years, more and more high-performing goals are produced, but with less and less "character and personality". See the Sigma. Perfect but aseptic, flat. Before buying this sony I tried the sigma 85 and 135. As I repeat, they are perfect. Even sharper than these sony but without any "flavor". I preferred this G Master, despite costing much more than Sigma, precisely because it gives the photos a little more "fairytale" feeling that in my opinion is a must in a lens of these features and this band. Very often perfection kills "magic". In conclusion, for the use for which it was born, I consider it a superb glass and therefore very recommended. Rating 9.5 sent on October 12, 2019 |
![]() | Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Pros: stabilized, tropicalized, feeling solid Cons: External zoom, plastic, sharpness, af Opinion: I thought I made a deal after years of only fixed lenses but I couldn't find the feeling with this 24-105. In theory, for me, who only do street and photography of trips and portraits, it had to be ideal. With a single lens having so many focal points it was beautiful. However, I tried two and with my 3 machines (A7s, A7sII, A7rII) and the impressions were the same. Nothing stratospheric in terms of sharpness and especially at 105mm. The f4 opening in some of the drops of my way of doing photography was limiting. Weight and footprint didn't make me feel comfortable. The speed and accuracy of the Af did not seem to me to be a reference. Probably this last aspect with the III series machines is better but with my no. Well done, solid though plastic, a sea of useful focals but.............. I'm thinking of selling it. Ms sent on October 12, 2019 |
![]() | Voigtlander VM Nokton 50mm f/1.1 Pros: F1, 1-construction-sharpness-price Cons: Availability-little contrast to wide openings Opinion: I've had it and I've been using it for 4 years. I got to enjoy them both on APS-C and on FF. I think it's a very nice lens. At F1, 1 is much sharper than what you read on the Internet and much sharper than so many super expensive and super-emblazoned lenses at smaller openings. The blur that produces is not poetic and creamy bensi nervous and crude. For someone this can be a cons. For me instead it is character and Persinalita. He's got a sale. Up to F2 is very low contrast and the colors are..... Let's say it's better with the B \ But with a little post is adjusted everything from F2, 8-F4 instead also the colors and contrast become fabulous. A full aperture vignette quite a lot but which lens doesn't vignette at that aperture???? The minimum focus distance of 1m is the only thing I don't like. Hold it in your hand and move r its ring nuts gives emotions like those that give the Zeiss. Recommended! sent on April 04, 2019 |
![]() | Zeiss ZM Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 Pros: Colors, sharpness, 3d Cons: Price, lens hood, minimum focusing distance Opinion: I had already reviewed this Zeiss some time ago but I used it almost constantly on APS-C and now instead of using it only and exclusively on FF I can get a more complete view of this lens. If you give him the way to express himself on the format for which he was born from even more satisfactions! This 35mm made you love right away. Just take it in your hand to love it! On FF of course vignette enough at wide openings but it doesn't bother me at all. On the format FF brings out a very appealing three-dimensionality that makes absolutely no regret the Leica glasses. At full opening is already really sharpest and F4 is at its best. For the use I make I can list as defect only the 70cm of minimum focusing distance. Unfortunately, being born for the rangefinder could not be otherwise. The price is neither a cons nor a pro. is a high quality Zeiss created for Leica users. Under no circumstances could it have been cheap! The hood is a real robbery instead. It is lacking and if you want the original Zeiss costs over $150 when instead, between material-processing-packaging, there are more than $10 of spending!!!! However it is a 35mm that I recommend to anyone because it is truly a fabulous item! Ms sent on July 02, 2018 |
![]() | Voigtlander VM Heliar 75mm f/1.8 Pros: It's a Voigtlander. Sharpness. Weight and size Cons: More brought for the B/n than for the color Opinion: I've never owned this little gem but I've had it on loan for almost 6 months. I can say I know him enough. In my opinion it is a very interesting lens like almost all Voigtlander's. It's built well, solid but fluid in mechanics, and from the feeling of things of other times like all the Voigtlander home gems. A F1, 8 is already piacevolissimevolmente sharp and gives images with a blurry nice and balanced. Like all the Voigtlander not of the latest generation it seems (and it really is) more brought for the B/n than for the color and gives to the images an analog and very interesting taste. The reduced weight and its ragionevolissime dimensions make it even more pleasant to use. The metal hood adds interest. In addition, those who like to shoot with manual optics, will realize that the focal length is still well usable manually freehand. In short, a beautiful object that works well, from satisfactions and costs the right. Unfortunately it is not so available or new or used. If you love the b/N more color and you happen in your hands, take it because you will not regret! Recommended. Rated 9 MS sent on June 16, 2018 |
