Pros: AF speed and accuracy, GPS, high ISO invariance, overall versatility

Cons: See notes

Opinion: I have had the D6 since October 2020, I come from the D4s. In my opinion the D4s is better in the design of the pentaprism (de gustibus!), and is better or comparable up to 10,000 ISO as image rendering, and above all it is very gradual in the loss of quality, so if at 10,000 ISO the image of the D4s is still excellent and in the natural order of things, at 50 iso it is really superb. On the other hand, the D6 "evens out" a bit of everything as if it were shooting at 1600-3200 ISO equivalent a bit over the entire range from 100 to 100,000 ISO and this is obviously fine at high sensitivities, but loses a bit at low speeds. Details, however: it is right that they are known but nothing transcendental. Where the D6 surpasses the D4s (moreover EXCELLENT camera and certainly the best purchase among the reflex cameras used now) is in the AF (greater sensitivity, points, coverage, responsiveness), in the versatility and ergonomics of some controls, and in the GPS (which for me should be standard on all professional cameras) Objectively the D6 is the best reflex ever made by Nikon, And this is paid for. That said, with the affirmation of mirrorless cameras (which often have advantages where people don't look for them, while in comparison with reflex cameras on AF the thing becomes more marginal), soon there will be D6 at very competitive prices, around 3000/3500 euros which was previously the price for a Z7II with battery pack or a D850 with lens. Despite this, on the other hand there is that although the Z's are supplanting the reflexes, there are few D6s around and the price will still drop more slowly than other models, which are depreciating a lot. Where I understand that those who approach photography are encouraged to choose the Z for a whole series of reasons (Z9 in the first place), coming from many years spent with reflex cameras, instead of selling everything I decided to put to good use the kit I already have (which is already excellent) and not go looking for the latest novelty at all costs just for the fun of it. I'm already covered for whatever I have to do, from 15 to 500mm and the D6 handles both AF and MF lenses very well. Where with 1500 € available the D4s is the obligatory choice, with 4000 € the D6 (used) is a dream camera now much more accessible and appetizing than the excellent Z9 (from 5000/5500 euros new, to which must be added 200/250 € for FTZ adapter if one has reflex lenses to mount, or good money must be spent on the new Z lenses. I have standardized boards and batteries with the D4s so I have remained on the same EN-EL18C and XQD boards that for me are more than sufficient and cheap compared to the CF Express, infinitely larger (even too much for me) but also more expensive.

Pros: Robustness, unparalleled ISO tightness, light and splendid files, dynamic range, focus and infinite battery, are just some of the advantages.

Cons: Maybe only the weight and definitely the price. After 3 years of full professional use I can't find any major flaws, except for these two indicated.

Opinion: I consider it, at the moment, the best reflex ever created, robust, sublime dynamic range, battery that supports a typical day of a professional photographer, unparalleled ISO maintenance, just the right mega pixels for most photographers with light files, (to love the fact of not filling your archive with photos of 45 or worse other than 60 mega pixels) I consider it the almost perfect reflex, Maybe not perfect, but really close to perfection. I would have liked to see and own one of its heirs, a hypothetical D7 with all its well-established features, perhaps with very few more mega pixels (perhaps the 26/30 would really be suitable for almost everything) with a totally tilting monitor/LCD compartment and a high-performance live view like the latest mirrorles, in my opinion this would achieve perfection. In conclusion, after its full use of c.ca 3 years and also owning the latest mirrors, I think it is a camera that in the future will be jealously guarded by its owners, built to last, to resist, I believe that it can assert itself and above all last at least for the next 10 years in the hands of any professional photographer, With the hope that Nikon will never stop producing any spare parts, for their true and at the moment the last jewel in the reflex world!

Pros: Robustness, reliability, AF speed, high iso yield, battery life, colors, workability of files. Viewfinder. Ergonomics.

Cons: The weight, after a few hours is felt. The price is certainly not affordable for everyone. Lack of light aid af.

Opinion: After years of Fujifil and Sony I got used to the mirrorless system very well. Unfortunately, my living in Cambodia has put me in front of a problem. 4 years of tropical humidity killed two of my Sonys. So I decided that the next machine had to be an indestructible tank. At that time I was in Kazakhstan and the only car with such characteristics that I could find there was the D6. Taken at a much lower price than it cost in Italy. It took me some time to get used to the SLR system but now I'm really glad I got it. Awesome af, great high iso management. Beautiful colors and very workable files. The battery is practically eternal. In addition, it gives me a very pleasant feeling the fact of having a tool in my hand that does not fear shocks, humidity or dust or splashes. In short, if it did not weigh what it weighs it would be perfect. Having it around your neck from morning to night as I do is a bit gnarly but you get used to it. Simply amazing viewfinder! In my opinion the 21mpx are enough and advance to do everything. Since Nikon has practically closed the SLR development department and since in the meantime equally solid and performing models have appeared, I would not recommend it. If you find a used D5 or even a D4s then you will still have an indestructible machine with af capabilities and high iso practically equal but at a much lower price. This does not mean that the D6 is not a great car! PS. Despite having a fabulous af system I would still have preferred it to be equipped with the light to help focus.

Pros: Nikon's latest professional SLR, no need to add anything else

Cons: Maybe weight and bulk, definitely the price

Opinion: Does it make sense to buy a D6 in 2022, in the Z era? For me yes, so I gave back the D5 and took the new flagship. In my choice they played both the emotional side towards the brand (in my opinion the D6 will be the last of Nikon's professional SLRs, the mechanics cost too much, the production cost of a Z9 is equivalent to a third) and the cutting-edge features. Compared to the D5 the improvements are there, and they are tangible: thanks to the new Expeed they greatly improve the jpg, the excellent AF of the D5 is further improved and now the new D6 really focuses on the impossible! And it does not end here, the propensity to high ISO (already very high in the D5) is even more exasperated, here you shoot at 12,800 ISO pulling out rows that seem to be taken at 200 and you record colors that with low lights the eye does not see, an impressive thing !! Then there is the shutter speed increased by 2 fps, the burst looks disturbingly similar to that of the UZI. And I will not go into the merits of wifi, bluetooth, GPS and video, stuff that I do not use. Personally I don't really like the dovetail system of releasing the optical viewfinder, and unfortunately the D6 inherits it from the D5. Nikon introduced it with the obvious intention of applying additional accessories but this means that the slide itself can no longer be disassembled, so those like me who are used to replacing it with the DK-17M magnifying eyepiece must necessarily desist. What can I say, far from me to advocate the purchase (official Nital today passes the 6500 euros), however I must admit that after 40 years of Nikon such a SLR I would never have imagined. And those who claim that between D5 and D6 changes little are very wrong, it means that they have not tried one or the other at all, or maybe both. And to close I allow myself a tip for those who already have it at home: keep it tight, the D6 is forever and machines like this will not build anymore!
