Pros: Very high image quality. Constant f/2.8 aperture, excellent even in low light. Effective VR stabilization. Fast and accurate autofocus. Very versatile: landscapes, events, reportage, weddings and portraits.

Opinion: A fabulous goal. Due to the size and weight in my opinion it is not suitable for an amateur. It is very flashy and attracts attention. Heavy and therefore not recommended for those who have to walk a lot except for professional reasons. A simple amateur photographer ends up leaving it at home, perhaps preferring fixed focal lengths. I know that the weight and size are justified by the quality of the lenses and optical schemes but these become a limit for those who do not have professional reasons.

Pros: Sharpness, speed and autofocus precision

Cons: In my opinion, nothing.

Opinion: Exceptional lens, I use practically only that in my photo shoots (wedding, communions/confirmations, baptisms) it is the standard lens. Purchased to use it on the Nikon D700, now on the D800. Fast, I don't feel the need for stabilization, the right sharpness to photograph people and precise autofocus, it has never given me problems.

Cons: weight, cost, frail mechanics

Opinion: Really high-performance lens, beautiful colors and beautiful blur (mounted on D850). The mechanics are a big disappointment: after very careful use (no shots, always stored vertically, ...) and 5000-6000 photos, the zoom got stuck halfway, unusable from 24 to 50. Sent for assistance where they fixed a blocked helicoid. I had been assured that the problem with the VR version would not occur (unlike the non-VR version where it is an unfortunately common problem) and instead... I resold it attaching the certification of the intervention under warranty and I went back to the fixed 1.4. A real shame, the photos rendered are gorgeous, perhaps a bit heavy to carry around, but all widely expected. The work of the VR superb. A real shame for the construction that inherits some problems from the non-VR version.

Opinion: Phenomenal optics. I'm coming from a 24-70 competition that I had to change due to some wear and tear issues. I was immediately impressed by the excellent build quality of the optics, which is also felt in the weight and size. Very sharp and engraved optics from the center to the edges of the frame, with high chromatic fidelity, and very pleasant bokeh; VR does its job very well. Worthy of note, in my opinion, is the idea of the bayonet mount directly on the objective barrel instead of on the ring of the front lens: it gives the sensation of increasing the general tropicalization. Nothing to envy to so many fixed lenses. Super recommended for those looking for versatile optics without sacrificing quality
