![]() | Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4 D ED Pros: Everything possible. Cons: ? Opinion: Absolutely one of the best Nikon lenses. It has a sharpness and color rendering comparable to those of a macro lens. The TC1.4II also works very well with the multiplier. Since 300mm is a "strange" focal length, it is used at ridiculous prices (my model was practically new). Great for photo hunting in shed, when at short distances. I also used it for photographs of shows, with excellent results. sent on March 23, 2023 |
![]() | Nikon AF 180mm f/2.8 D ED IF Pros: Exceptional performance, build quality Cons: It is an AF, but it is a search for the hair in the egg. Opinion: This lens is a true masterpiece. Unsurpassed for the TA yield, the maneuverability that make it suitable for multiple uses in low light conditions. A real shame that Nikon has ceased to produce it. Do not listen to those who say that Nikon lenses a bit 'dated do not make with the most modern sensors: surely it is not true for this lens (I use it on D810 and D850). sent on March 23, 2023 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED Pros: Optical and construction quality. Cons: Cluttered. Opinion: After much hesitation, I took it as a replacement for the Nikkor 24-120/4. Overall, this 24-70 satisfies me more, even if it is less manageable than the 24-120 and those 40mm of focal length less make it less versatile on the go. The advantages of this lens are not so much in the extra diaphragm, as in the plasticity of the images and in the color rendering, which bring it closer to the best fixed objectives of the house. The absence of VR for me is not a problem, indeed (the version with VR weighs, clutters and costs more). sent on March 23, 2023 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 500mm f/5.6 E PF ED VR Pros: Lightness and compactness, image quality, impeccable construction, tropicalized. End of back pain. Cons: Nothing important. Opinion: I took it as a replacement for the Nikkor 200-500, mainly because of the lower weight and bulk. For the type of use (itinerant photographic hunting) it is definitely more suitable, also because I used the zoom almost always at 500mm, often also with the TC1.4III. This lens is giving me better results in all conditions. Only handicap, with the TC in low light conditions the AF becomes slow and imprecise, but this depends on the camera body (I have D850 and D810), and with the 200-550 it was worse. I do not find relevant, in my experience, the criticism of the tripod mount and the hood. The original Cordura case is unsuitable for transport. For cases where I transport it separately from the rest, I purchased a properly protective cylindrical case. sent on March 23, 2023 |
![]() | OM System OM-1 Pros: The stacked sensor raises the level of performance, computational functions and AI do the rest. Compact, lightweight, ergonomically almost perfect. Weather-proof. Cons: Noise above 10000ISO, but still better than the other M4/3 I own. Opinion: I've owned it for about 2 months, so I haven't tried it thoroughly yet. However, I can say that, for photography, it is a significant step forward compared to my other cameras of the same format. Above all, for birdlife and wildlife photos in general, AI AF co is nothing short of mind-blowing. Even shooting at very high speed is. I haven't had a chance to try other computational features like high-resolution shooting, etc. However, it seemed important to me to share these assessments of mine. sent on January 18, 2023 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED VR Pros: Wide focal rangeGood used price Cons: Poor photo quality Opinion: I tried it because it was potentially interesting as the only lens for travel. It did not convince me, mainly because of the poor quality of the photos it churns out. It is true that with that dark focal ion you can not expect excellence, but I think it does not make much sense to invest in a pro camera body and use a poor lens. Another limit, subjective, is the minimum focal length at 28.Conclusion: I returned it and I hold on to the Nikon 24-120f4. sent on May 08, 2022 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 24-120mm f/4 G ED VR Pros: It covers the range of focal lengths most used, with a quality and brightness almost at the top. Ideal travel companion Cons: The list price is exaggerated Opinion: It is the real Nikon workhorse for the Fx format. I used it on the df, on the d800 and, for a couple of months, on the d850. Fully satisfied, but aware of its limitations. If necessary, for more specific needs, I replace it with an ultra-bright or macro fixed. As for the price, you will find new extract from kits around € 600, or used. Thanks to its detractors. Absolutely recommended. sent on May 08, 2022 |
![]() | Nikon Micro 55mm f/3.5 AI Pros: Exceptional quality even with modern FFs with ultra-dense sensors. Used at ridiculous prices. Very light and space-saving, it allows you to shoot macros even freehand. Also valid as a general purpose, but limited by manual focus. Cons: The short focal length limits its scope of use to objects and flowers. For insect photography it constitutes a limit. The only real limit is represented by the need to mount the extension tube to get to the 1:1 ratio. Opinion: It was my first macro lens, purchased in the second half of the 70s. I grew up with him... For the macro of flowers, objects and still life is practically unbeatable. Today I prefer the micro Nikkor AF 105 2.8, not so much for the AF that in the macro I practically never use, but because it allows me to keep a certain distance from the subject and does not need to mount the extension tube to get to the 1:1 ratio. sent on April 02, 2022 |
![]() | Nikon 20mm f/4 Ai Pros: Excellent quality and compactness, fits comfortably in your pocket. It is a relatively "easy" goal, because it is little affected by the typical problems of pushed wide angles. After 46 years it looks like a bit new! Cons: Nothing. Opinion: I have owned this lens since 1976 (including its beautiful removable metal hood). He gave me great satisfaction photographing on film. When I went digital, initially with the APS-C format, I stopped using it. I took it back about two years ago, as I abandoned the APS-C for the FF. It gave me excellent results, both with the Nikon df and with the D800. Given the great depth of field, the lack of AF is not a handicap. It is a great complement to the 24-120 f4 because, with little bulk it is little weight, it allows you to push a little more on the wide angle. In certain situations, such as when the sun or other strong light sources enter the frame, I prefer it to AF D 14 2.8 because it provides images almost immune to ghosts and flares. sent on April 01, 2022 |
![]() | Nikon TC-14E III Pros: no appreciable degradation in the optical performance of the lens, a single stop of brightness less is almost not noticeable, compactness and lightness Cons: none, in my opinion Opinion: I got to try it quite thoroughly during a busy day of photographic hunting I used it with the Nikon AFS 200-500 f5.6, mounted on a D800 with battery pack in various light conditions, from full sun to penumbra under dense foliage, without the aid of monopod or tripod I found the whole very balanced and easy to use , especially with static or slow moving subjects less easy to point birds in flight, especially because of the narrow angle of view at the maximum focal length A shorter rotation of the focal change ring would help Too bad not being able to use it with other lenses of my kit sent on July 11, 2021 |
![]() | Panasonic GH5 Pros: Lightness, handling, construction quality, tropicalization, silent shooting, double stabilization Cons: Battery life (battery packable), sensor seal at high ISO Opinion: Purchased in October 2017. More than 3 years later I am very satisfied with it. Let me say that I do not make movies at all, but only photos. The reasons for the transition to micro4/3 were all confirmed in use, during excursions for photographic hunting in the high mountains or trips where it was necessary to move "light". Initially with the 12-70 PanaLeica flanked, by adapter, by the Summicron R 90/2 and the Apo Telyt 180/3.4 that I had for some years. Next, I purchased the 100-400 and 45 macro PanaLeica and a used GX8 body. The quality of the images, up to 800ISO, is nothing short of mind-blowing. Rising in sensitivity, there is a progressive degradation that, at 3200ISO becomes too evident for naturalistic photos. Moving from reflex to mirrorless, you appreciate its greater compactness and lower weight (also for the micro4/3 format), double stabilization and silence. The price to pay is the lower battery life. sent on March 21, 2021 |
![]() | Panasonic GX8 Pros: Ergonomics, handling, tropicalization, double stabilization (with original optics), optical range and overall quality Cons: Battery life, poor sensor hold at high iso Opinion: I bought it used (body only) about 1 year after buying GH5, to have a second body. For photography, the 2 machines are almost equivalent. I use them with preference when doing photo hunting excursions, in which the low weight and dimensions of the micro4/3 are winning. The quality of PanaLeica optics is excellent (I have 12-60, 100-400 and 45 macro). In addition, with an adapter I can use 2 "historic" Leica R optics that I have had for several years: the Summicron 90/2 and the Apo Telyt 180/3.4 (unsurpassed). Only brake (which also applies to GH5): over 800 ISO the sensor begins to degrade. But you can't have it all. sent on March 21, 2021 |
![]() | Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AI-s Pros: Pastel color rendering, images that look like 3D, amazing blurry. Lightweight and compact like all CPU-free targetses. No flaws. Cons: It's not a lens for everyone. Opinion: After owning and using for decades the 50mmf2 AI and the micro 55mmf3.5 AI (which I still use), I embarked on the search for this jewel of technology. I found it used (semi new) in Japan via eBay. I've been using it for about three months, and I've been bewitched by it. Mounted on the Df allows you to wander the streets at dusk and steal wonderful photos. To take full advantage of its features, even better on the D800. I dare not think of the surrender on the D850 (I will borrow it from a dear friend). I've read the other reviews, and they say pretty much everything already. I also have the 85mmf1.4 AF D, and in some ways they are very similarly rendered optics. Too bad they stopped producing it. To those who are giving us a thought, I say: hurry because they will soon no longer be found. sent on February 21, 2021 |
![]() | Panasonic Lumix LX5 Pros: the highest quality of optics and images - the Summicron Leica is confirmed as one of the best optics ever - ultra compact dimensions - quality and construction solidity Cons: high ISOs emerge the limits of the sensor Opinion: Bought new in 2011, it had few or zero competitors in terms of quality and usability. The zoom with focal excursion equivalent to a 24-90mm and maximum brightness f2 allows you to optimally cover the needs of those who want to take travel and /or street photos going unnoticed. It's safely in a pocket, or in the glove drawer of my BMW R1200RT or vespa. Sometimes I took her with me on short business trips abroad. It is also ideal to take on holiday when you have weight and footprint constraints, or to put in your backpack for a demanding hike in the mountains. a real notepad of images that can give a lot of satisfaction. Today he feels a little the weight of the years, but he can still say his own. sent on November 19, 2020 |
![]() | Leica Summicron-R 90mm f/2 Pros: Color rendering, plasticity and blurry Cons: I can't find flaws, except perhaps a slight loss of contrast in backlight portraits, perhaps xchè at the time (he's almost 50 years old!) anti-glare treatments weren't at today's level Opinion: It's a lens I've had since the '80s, I used it with leica r film bodies. Today I use it with an adapter on micro4/3 Panasonic, where it behaves like a 180mm. I've always loved him, and I don't think I'm going to stop loving him. I recently purchased an 85 f1.4 AF that I use on Nikon FX machine bodies. I have to say, it's a good fight. sent on November 18, 2020 |
![]() | Nikon AF 14mm f/2.8 D ED Pros: The solidity and constructive quality of professional Nikkor objectives Cons: you have to pay close attention to the side spot light because it creates annoying reflections, but with this angle of field and this maximum aperture is normal Opinion: I've been buying this lens, which I've been using for about a month, to complete the kit at the low focal points, and I think that's a very good goal. The price of a good used is definitely interesting. The choice was quite considered, because it replaces the 10-24 DX after I decided to abandon the APS-C format in favor of FX. I preferred to orient myself on a fixed focal point, for the segg reasons: the 14-24f2.8 (which I tried) is too heavy/ingombrnter/expensive for my needs; since the 1970s I have had 20f4, which I am enthusiastic about and which is in a pocket; I have as a handyman the AF-S 24-120f4. Also, when needed, I don't mind moving with 2 machine bodies, so you don't have to tinker with optical changes all the time. So, ultimately, after the first tests on a short trip, I feel like I made the right choice. I tried optics in different conditions, outdoors and indoors, even at night or inside churches with poor light present. At the moment I do not find any weaknesses, considering the focal length and maximum aperture. Of course, the 20f4 is lighter and more compact and "easier", it also churns out surgical images. But in technology everything has an explanation, and in my opinion 14f2.8 does its job very well. sent on November 07, 2020 |
![]() | Nikon AF 85mm f/1.4 D Pros: A jewel for the build quality but, above all, for the images of which it is capable. Cons: None, if you consider the use for which it was designed. Opinion: I just bought it (used), and I'm studying it. The first photos, at home, with poor ambient light, taking advantage of the extreme opening and the excellent qualities of my Nifkon Df are, to say the least, exciting. Incredible colors and shades, a wonderful blurry one. I'll have to venture into the streets of Milan at night, and see what we're capable of together. sent on May 15, 2020 |
![]() | Nikon Df Pros: Excellent from the point of view of construction quality and photographic results. An image quality that is appreciated especially with high ISO and with very bright lenses. Cons: For my expectations and for the motivation of the choice, none. Opinion: I rediscovered the magic of the colors and complexion of my favorite film in my youth, which was the Professional Agfachrome 50S. Unfortunately very delicate film, to treat the proper attentions, to think that the film was in an aluminum container with screw cap and rubber garnish... It provides excellent results with both very bright and slightly agè optics such as the 85mm f1.4 D or the 80-200 f2:8 pump, and with newer optics such as the 24-120 f4. In my SLR park it is definitely the one that satisfies me the most. sent on May 15, 2020 |
![]() | Panasonic Leica 100-400mm f/4.0-6.3 ASPH OIS Pros: Very high quality of construction and image, tropicalization. The size and weight are contained for an optics that is equivalent to 200-800 for FF. Perfect for wildlife and wildlife photos. Great freehand use, Thanks tothe compactness and double image stabilizer, unthinkable for focal andquivalent in FF format. Cons: Perfection does not exist. Opinion: I've had this lens for almost 2 years, and I'm just excited about it. I use it with a Lumix GH-5 body and it gave me great satisfaction in photo hunting and birdwatching. The weight and the small size allow you to walk long distances in the mountains (even in winter with snow) without excessive effort. Thanks to the double body-optical stabilizer, you are not obliged to use tripods, which also facilitates the pursuit of moving subjects. The focal excursion allows you to cope with almost any situation. It is true that a brighter diaphragm would have been convenient, but at the expense of greater weight, footprint and price. sent on April 09, 2020 |
![]() | Panasonic Leica DG 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 ASPH OIS Pros: Color, contrast, sharpness at very high levels. Construction quality and tropicalization. Cons: Nobody. Opinion: Purchased about 3 and a half years ago in kit with Lumix GH5, it was my entry into the micro 4/3 world. I chose Panasonic for the catalog presence of Leica optics and for the possibility, via adapter, to use the old Leica R optics. The 12-60 is an excellent all-rounder target, which today I mainly use with a GX8 body. I find them an excellent pairing for street photography and travel photos, when the prevailing need is to travel light and photograph in fluency. The results never disappoint, in any circumstance. sent on April 09, 2020 |
![]() | Leica APO Telyt R 180mm f/3.4 Pros: Sharpness, contrast, color border perfection Cons: Nobody Opinion: A true gioielloUn telephoto lens with a chromatic rendition and incredible details, even apertura20 years ago I used it with Leica R film cameras. I recently purchased a Lumix GH-5 and I use it with an adapter. Full Manual, but what a satisfaction! With the Micro 4/3 format, the equivalent focal length doubles. I have used it recently for photos and videos of birdwatching, in shed and not, freehand because I do not particularly love the tripod. Paired with the administrator GH-5 works excellently! sent on May 20, 2018 |
