Pros: Lens impresses with its sharpness and speed. Beautiful blur. Lens is lightweight.

Cons: Sometimes it gets lost at f1.4. There are no other defects. In Poland, there is little affordable price higher grade lenses.

Opinion: I think that the lens is recommendable to all lovers of photography people and portraits. Things you can do with this lens pass by expectations. Unfortunately I did not G series for comparison, but I think even I would not want to replace. I'm working on the D7000 and earlier this lens I had attached to the Fuji S5Pro and check just as well. I highly recommend this lens.

Pros: Perfectly balanced color rendering for sweet and exciting portraits, sharpness in the center, very soft fire-out of focus transition, perfect bokeh both behind and in front of the subject, construction.

Cons: Very mediocre yield at the extreme edges, resistance to backlight, resistance to dust intrusion.

Opinion: I have been using it for about 10 years, the last 5 on d750. Six months ago I bought the new G to replace it but I still have both. Surely it is a lens that in its field is extraordinary, I find that around f2.5 it offers the best compromise between result and ease of use. Compared to the G it has a more balanced color rendering slightly tending to "cold" and magenta, the new one has a tendency to yellow and slightly also to green (perhaps because of the N coating?) which depending on the conditions and personal tastes can be better or worse. If we talk about complexion just look at the galleries of the two lenses to notice the clear difference: with the D you will hardly get yellowish faces, which instead is normal with the G if you do not do the calibration of the white. Those who say that the D is chromatically warmer are therefore mistaken. The colors are vivid but a little less saturated than G, which means it gives flatr results in cloudy sluggish light conditions but more faithful in optimal light. Bokeh behind G just a little softer (even here those who say the opposite are wrong, the numerous online tests confirm) which does not necessarily mean better. More difference instead in front of the subject, where in particular cases the G can be nervous and aberrate of purple while the D is always perfect. Very sharp in the center even at TA equal to or more than the G (at least for my specimens), but it has a poor yield at the edges (where the G excels), so for full-length photos the feet are a risk area if not diaphragmed. For panoramas it is sharp to be scary but even diaphragm to f8 the extreme corners remain dirty, so either you are satisfied or you crop a hair. However, already at f2.5 it is very sharp for most of the frame. Do not shoot with the sun beating on the lens because it is asking too much (also because the hood is so uncomfortable that it almost always remains at home ...). Very nice to handle, it certainly has more charm than the G which however is not even bad as some say, the latter has the full time manual focus that is comfortable. Autofocus does well what it has to do for both, D a little faster and much noisier. I have not noticed any differences in terms of accuracy, both of them often reed me (will it be me?!). I did numerous side-by-side tests and the G, blurred front aside, was technically the same or better in everything. But when I do what matters, or portraits, the G does not miss a shot, but the D manages to give a poetic and exciting rendering of the complexion and in my opinion superior. To conclude, they are two lenses with slightly different characters. For a more general or work use in which it matters to take home the shot I think it is better to orient yourself on the new G. However, if you want a lens to be used for passion, which has a very specific field of use and in which it is and will always be among the best in history, then also given the prices of the used the D is the choice to make. Then let's be clear, there is talk of a clash of titans.

Pros: Aesthetics, Construction, Brightness, Photo Quality and Details, Value for Money

Cons: Is it dependency !!!

Opinion: After a year of endless research and the absolute desire to get our hands on this goal... i finally took it !!! Like many I had the doubt whether to take the 1.8 or 1.4 and further series "D" or series "G" ... The considerations I have made are many and I cannot write them all, but summarizing them: 1)it was my fixed nail from the beginning, 2) aesthetically it was love at first sight, 3) the price of the used makes it competitive even compared to 1.8, 4) they advised me in several people that I consider reliable and experienced. That said, I found an almost immaculate specimen to say the least perfect, complete with lampshed, packaging and box. The wow effect is assured: beautiful, with its shape that transmits solidity and robustness and the metal lampshed. Yes, but how much does it weigh? .... it will look strange and incredible but mounted on the D3 it almost seems not to have mounted it, I do not know how to explain it, but the pairing D3+85 f/1.4 D is perfectly balanced, falls into the hand like the hilt of a sword forged by a master blacksmith. Impressive is the amount of light that passes in this lens: the shooting times are considerably lower and the focus is fast and precise. The quality and detail obtained in the photo leaves you speechless... even at TA (all opening), unlike what I read in certain reviews, the detail in the focus areas is perfect and incredibly sharp and clean and the blurry has a truly creamy and soft yield that in a pleasant, almost dreamlike way, guides the eye to explore the image. I mean, lens that doesn't miss a beat, it's worth all the money it costs, for me it's perfect... I will never pull it off again! ^_^ Vote 10/10 full of !!!

Pros: Optical quality, material quality

Cons: GEARbox AF - MF

Opinion: Regardless of the price, which I can't complain about having had a second-hand voucher, it's a lens with its own character. Outside of the Macro, I care little about sharpness so I find the lens very suitable for the portrait precisely because it is not a genre in which I seek sharpness. Always in the portraits, the blurring here is quite pleasant, perhaps a hair more "nervous" than G optics but I prefer to have optics with the ring of diaphragms ; for now I used it on the d810 and the results are ok, yet I have to see on film how it comes. The lampshade does not find it particularly cumbersome, it is a METAL PRO for all the shocks it takes when you do little attention. The only sin is the automatic fire/manual fire change ring even at which you get used to and has no such important incidence.

Pros: Sharpness, exciting blurry, construction, price (current).

Cons: No one at the moment.

Opinion: Optical purchased a few months ago, used at home to photograph the daughters immediately made a great impression but at the first serious photo release gave me really exciting shots. Always in focus, even at f 1.4, on 450 shots he never made a mistake to seal, at most I was wrong to focus on the distant eye. It gave me a feeling of safety in the use that other optics do not give me. The sharpness in the center, the gradual blurring, the romantic atmosphere that knows how to return this optics are fantastic, I will use it for the next few years and I will sell the 70-200 f2.8 that weighs a kilo and a half and does not give me these satisfactions.
