zeiss_zm_sonnar50_f1-5cZeiss ZM C Sonnar T* 50mm f/1.5

Pros: Compactness, rendering and 3D POP

Cons: Bad front cap and hood to be purchased separately.

Opinion: Very particular lens or you love or hate, from this derives the nickname of "Skizzo". The beauty of this lens lies precisely in its character, very pronounced, so much so that I would recognize its stamp among many. Unique rendering that gives a very evident three-dimensionality to open aperture. The transition between the area in focus and the out of focus is so delicate that it accentuates the sense of depth of the image. Warm colors, not excessively contrasted, sharp enough in the center at full opening becomes a blade after f4. It suffers from slight focus shift with open apertures and with close subject, but nothing problematic, you get used to it and compensate. Of course the problem of focus shift is only present on Leica M because the rangefinder has limitations, if used on any mirrorless there are no problems. From the constructive point of view all metal and glass and despite this Zeiss has managed to contain the weight in just over 200gr. What I do not understand is why, and I found this on several brands, you save on the front cap, which has a really bad attack, in addition to the choice not to provide the hood as a kit. A piece of advice that I would like to give you is that if at the first use you do not have the desired results, insist, the more you make friends the more he will reward you with amazing image the patience you have given him.

leica_summicron_m28_f2_2016Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH (2016)

Pros: Outstanding throughout.

Cons: Nothing from the point of view of image quality, expensive and hood a little too big.

Opinion: It's my favorite lens! Let's start from the construction, impeccable like all Leica lenses, small but not tiny, light enough, fits perfectly on the M10, unique in fact, it has the hood supplied beautiful but a little too big for my taste. We come to the image quality: perfect lens for sharpness, contrast and microcontrast, but in this case perfection is not boring, because this lens has character. Very nice bokeh for an f2 wide-angle lens, all these features offer a very nice rendering.

zeiss_zm_biogon_35_f2-8cZeiss ZM C Biogon T* 35mm f/2.8

Pros: Very small, very sharp and very precise

Cons: Maximum aperture f2.8

Opinion: Having the barrel full and the wife drunk is difficult but with this Zeiss you have the barrel full and the wife shines. Weight and footprint incredibly reduced so much so that mounted on the Leica M10 transforms it into a compact as dimensions, only 180 gr (without caps) and protrudes from the camera only 3 cm. Mechanically perfect, smooth maf with a fairly contained stroke that allow you in a few moments to go from 0.7 meters to infinity, diaphragms with steps of 1/3 (Zeiss exaggeration) precise, all-metal barrel (even the tab unlike Leica which is usually made of plastic). Let's come to the image quality: to say that it is sharp is reductive, it is on the whole frame since the maximum aperture, non-existent distortion, not exciting bokeh due to the focal length and minimum aperture, but clean, not rough, exceptional contrast and microcontrast, excellent flare resistance, so much so that the hood (not included) is an option that has only an aesthetic value. Colors I read everywhere that Zeiss is characterized by cold colors, I must say that they are not as hot as Leica but they are not cold at all, at least these. I also had the Summicron 35mm f2 Asph and this Zeiss does not disfigure at all considering that new costs 1/4. The only limit is the maximum aperture f2.8, but it is a price to pay for all the qualities mentioned above. In my kit it fits between the Summicron 28mm f2 Asph and the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.2 and is the lens I choose when I want to go out with a single lens, otherwise 28mm and 50mm. Perfect lens for street photography. Highly recommended.

voigtlander_vm50_f1-2Voigtlander (E, VM) 50mm f/1.2 Nokton Aspherical

Pros: Dreamy lens that however does not give up sharpness and contrast.

Cons: None except the lack of the standard hood.

Opinion: I purchased the VM version to use it with the Leica M10 and I must say that it really surprised me. Are we sure it is the distant cousin of the Summilux M 50mm f1.4? For me he is a little brother almost the same age. Fabulous blur, 12-slat diaphragm, small size and above all well balanced with the camera body, excellent sharpness and contrast at f1.2 excellent starting from f2. I also have the Summicron M 50mm f2, but they are so different that they can safely coexist, the first hypercorrected the second with character but without sacrificing image quality. I had some doubts about the ease of MAF at f1.2 but even here I was positively surprised. I made myself a nice gift.

leica_m10Leica M10

Pros: Handling, three-dimensionality, high ISO seal, viewfinder....beautiful

Cons: nobody

Opinion: Reviewing the Leica M10 is simple, it has everything a photoadamator dreams of having. An essential machine, has all the rings to set everything without accessing the menu, has only 3 keys, a bright viewfinder, essential for focus with the rangefinder, handy but robust, with a top construction quality. Held at high ISOs superior to previous models, crazy dynamic range, churns out fantastic DNG files that don't need post production. In combination with the superb optics, Leitz gives a three-dimensionality to each image regardless of light. Perhaps it is not suitable for all photographic genres, such as sports and photo hunting, both for the lack of autofocus and for the impossibility of mounting telephoto lenses pushed, but for all other genres it is truly unique. For me, it's the ultimate camera.

leica_50_f2summicron-mLeica Summicron-M 50mm f/2

Pros: Size, construction, sharpness, three-dimensionality... all.

Cons: nothing

Opinion: I'm starting out that the 50mm focal point has never been one of my favorites, but since I switched to Leica M (typ240), I'm rediscovering this focal point. Returning to the Summicron M 50mm f2, there are no words that can do justice to this lens, in my opinion among the best ever among all the focal points. Impressive sharpness all over the frame, delicate boken, remarkable microcontrasto and three-dimensionality, gradual tonal passages. I have never used a lens so optically correct, with a fantastic construction and with a recognizable timbre like the Summicron M 50mm f2. Only.

voigtlander_vm21_f1-8Voigtlander VM 21mm f/1.8 Ultron

Pros: Weight, construction, sharpness and no distortion

Cons: nobody

Opinion: This was a lens that surprised me. I use it mainly on Leica M (typ240) but also on Nikon Z6. Solid construction, all metal and glass like the optics of the past. Sharpness accepted throughout the frame even when open, it becomes an f2.8 blade where the sharpness in the center and edges is uniform. Almost absent distortion, which for a 21mm is crazy. Really small weight and size, compared to the Zeiss 21mm f2.8, which I had in the past weighs 200gr less and is much smaller, despite being brighter as well as being aspheric. Sliding rings and diaphragms advancing 1/2 stops with a nice click, with 10 slats turning the light points into a beautiful star. Relatively low cost for the category.

leica_mLeica M (Typ 240)

Pros: Aesthetically beautiful, materials used, rangefinder and files never seen before.

Cons: Weight and hold at high iso.

Opinion: Nikonista for 30 years I bought the first Leica and it was a love at first sight. Beautiful aesthetically, to the touch, impeccable construction with the highest quality materials. But every love if supported only by the aesthetic aspect soon tends to wane, here is this Leica M (typ240) makes image quality its strong point. Churn out beautiful files, with a dynamic range never seen before, full colors, deep blacks, good white balance. The thing that surprised me the most is that raw files are ready already do not need post production. Of course Leica lenses contribute to increased quality, and I wondered it's worth buying a Leica body when you can mount lenses on any Mirrorless? The first thing I did just took the Leica was compare it with the Nikon Z6 using on both the Summicron-M 35mm f2 Asph, same subject, same shooting parameters, result? Better clarity, full colors and microcontrasto all in favor of Leica, in a nutshell the Leica sensor optimizes the quality of Leitz lenses. Another positive aspect is the Manual Focus. Yes, in a moment where technology uses EYE-AF even on the eye of animals, returning to hand sealing brings you back to the essence of photography and in this the rangefinder helps a lot. Essential and intuitive menu, all controls are at your fingertips. On the other hand, I put the weight on it, not exaggerated but I expected less, of course it is widely justified by the materials used. Another downside is the hold on high ISOs compared to the new mirrorless, up to 2400 good, at 3600 acceptable over mediocre. In conclusion, it is a camera for those who want from their device the essentials to photograph ensuring excellent quality. A contraindication: it is addictive.

voigtander_40_f1-4Voigtlander VM Nokton 40mm f/1.4 SC

Pros: Character, build quality and weight.

Cons: Position of the diaphragm ring... but just get used to it.

Opinion: I purchased a Nikon Z6 to be able to use precisely this type of lenses. Construction quality of the lenses of the past, only glass and metal, but despite this a feather weight. I immediately asked myself: how do you weigh 1/4 of Sigma Art while having the same brightness? The doubt is that it is performing 1/4 of Sigma Art. And here the surprise in this small barrel is enclosed a unique character. Of course, at the end of the day it is not a blade but just close a couple of stops and it becomes very sharp, contrasted, but above all unique. The photos taken with this little guy are distinguishable from those made with the latest generation of hypercorrect lenses. Pleasant and fluid rings even if it is necessary to make a habit of using the diaphragm ring that is placed at the front end of the lens.

viltrox_af85_f1-8fe_iiViltrox AF 85mm f/1.8 II

Pros: Sharpness, boken, construction, autofocus

Cons: His name is Viltrox

Opinion: Bought for Nikon Z6 this lens really surprised me. Impeccable metal and glass construction like modern Zeiss, crazy sharpness all over the frame already at f1.8, very responsive and precise autofocus and then the price costs less than half the Nikon Z 85mm f1.8 S. In my opinion if you had called Zeiss everyone would exalt its qualities, but it would be priced at least 1,500 € more. Unfortunately your name is Viltrox and I like you like you that way.

tamron_sp90macro_vcTamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Macro

Pros: Construction, sharpness, stabilization, autofocus.

Cons: No one at the moment.

Opinion: Last purchase Tamron, I must say that this company does not miss one. Purchased not only to make macros, but for more generalistic use, portraits, landscapes, and all those photos of details. It impresses its sharpness, typical of macro lenses to which a very nice boken is added. It's also stabilized, allowing you to shoot freehand even at 1/30. Really a good find. Very recommended.

tamron_17-35osdTamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD

Pros: Light, compact and nested.

Cons: Lack of distance scale

Opinion: Finally the wide wide zoom I was looking for. Light, compact, good build quality, in spite of the weight from a sense of solidity, tropicalized, sharp all over the frame already from the maximum opening, vignette and distortion imperceptible, and at a very acceptable price, what more to ask for? I use it on Nikon Df and even the autofocus seems to me fast and accurate. A zoom that allows you to make street, landscapes, reportage, set portraits and close-up photos given the minimum distance of MAF, in short it will always be present in my backpack.

tamron_15-30vcTamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD

Pros: Sharpness, imperceptible distortion and vignetting nonexistent, and at zoom range.

Cons: "Weight"

Opinion: What a fantastic optics, building level, substantial weight but for a lens with f2.8 this hike is that impessabile albeit slight. extraordinary Niditezza already in TA but f4 becomes uniform throughout the frame. But the most impressive thing is the near absence of distortion at 15mm. And then the stabilizer that allow you to also shoot at 1/4 free hand and allow you to make creative shots with moving subjects and background in sharp focus. Great perspective, the board also for the quality / price ratio.
