![]() | Meyer Gorlitz Oreston 50mm f/1.8 Pros: Blurred, brightness, color rendering, minimum focusing distance, compactness and solidity of construction Cons: Poor sharpness wide open (but that's also what builds its character) Opinion: It is a lens that immediately captured me: at the moment I have used it mainly for photographs of flowers and nature. I really like its dreamlike, pictorial rendering and its bubble blur at full aperture begins to take on a very marked hexagonal shape already closing one stop. It has a minimum focusing distance of around 30 centimeters, so as to make it a lens suitable for very close shots. And it is here that in my opinion it gives its best and brings out all its particular character. Closing the diaphragm you gain sharpness, but compared to other vintage lenses (such as the Zeiss Tessar 50mm f2.8) it does not hold a candle either on microcontrast or on color rendering, becoming a lens that is not very versatile, despite the focal length of 50mm. Knowing its strengths, however, it becomes a lens with a nice character, to be used for targeted and particular situations. sent on July 08, 2025 |
![]() | Zeiss Pancolar Jena 50mm f/1.8 Zebra Pros: Brightness, warmth in color rendering, blurred, minimum focusing distance Cons: Not sharp at full aperture Opinion: It's a lens that didn't immediately grab me. Used to the tessar 50 f2.8, I expected this lens to surprise me with microcontrast and sharpness with more speed. Instead, they are two completely different lenses! I find this pancolar a more dreamlike lens, especially if used with a fully open aperture: its minimum focusing distance of just over 30 centimeters leads you to experiment with visions of this type, where the main subject is well isolated from the context. In my opinion, it is a lens with which it is necessary to get the hang of it and must be used in a creative way. sent on June 21, 2025 |
![]() | Pentacon Auto MC 29mm f/2.8 Pros: Character, color rendering, focal length, minimum focusing distance Cons: Lack of sharpness at the edges and little clarity in the center Opinion: It is a decidedly particular lens and its defects certainly make it its character. He has a very nervous and unpredictable blur, especially at close ranges. It is also not very sharp in the center and even with a rather small aperture. Its rendering is not very natural, nor neutral, which is why it becomes interesting for a particular look search. Pass me the term, for me it's a GRUNGE lens. I think it can also work very well in video, where you don't look for too much definition but character. Colors tend to be quite saturated. It is a lens that is worth having even just to play a little given the low costs. sent on May 05, 2025 |
![]() | Zeiss Jena Tessar 50mm f/2.8 Pros: Soft blur, color rendering, micro-contrast, very smooth focusing, look (aluminum version) super cool Cons: Not too bright, suffers quite a bit from backlight Opinion: I bought this lens by seeing a few video reviews at a good price. Being in the period when I used brighter lenses such as the helios and the super takumar 50mm f1.4 I left it aside a bit. In recent days I have picked it up again and I must say that it left me surprised. It has perhaps one of the most elegant, soft, and painterly bokeh among my vintage lenses. At close range it is very beautiful on flowers and nature and even closing the aperture a little (at f4 or f5.6) it still maintains a very soft and pleasant blur. Also nice for portraits with soft or sharp light (if not backlit, as it suffers a bit like all old lenses). I am very satisfied, it is a very poetic lens. sent on April 22, 2025 |
![]() | Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Pros: Blurred, autofocus, brightness, color rendition, sharpness Cons: Weight, barrel distortion Opinion: After almost a year of purchase only now I decide to make a review. In my opinion it is a nice lens, I really like the color rendering and its rather soft blur. It is sharp and sharp even at very wide apertures. The autofocus is quite fast, not always very precise (especially in poor light conditions). The sore points are in my opinion the weight, but it fits for an f1:1.4, while the distortion so evident at the barrel on a 50mm of this price range is really annoying. Passed but not with full marks. sent on October 22, 2024 |
![]() | Zenit Helios 44-2 58mm f/2.0 Pros: Blurred, brightness, color rendering Cons: its defects make it the character of the lens Opinion: I walked around it for quite a while, buying almost all the lenses of the 44M series (which I sold) and then arriving at the historic 44-3 and finally the 44-2. I must say that the lens gives me satisfaction adapted on my sony A7iii. It is a very defective optics, it suffers a lot in backlight, it has very little sharpness at the edges at full aperture and it is difficult to take a little 'hand to get something decent out. Accustomed to modern lenses, where at maximum aperture I am used to decentralize the subject, everything I did with this lens sucked for me. Now that I've got a little carried away and I've figured out what I can do with it, I'm satisfied. In my opinion it is a lens to have in the kit. sent on July 11, 2023 |
![]() | Venus Laowa MiniFF II 85mm f/5.6 Macro 2:1 Pros: Magnification factor, lightness, sharpness, usability Cons: Anonymous lens cap and hood not easy to mount Opinion: I bought this lens because I was looking for something specific for macro photography with a very high magnification factor. Being used to other completely manual optics I had no difficulty in its use. I had documented myself with reviews and opinions online and I must say that I am absolutely satisfied. Its quality is really good, the sharpness is very good, the distortion is almost absent. With the x2 magnification factor, completely new creative worlds open up. If I really have to find moles I must say that given its cost a custom lens cover would have been welcome, but Laowa on this has not worked at all. The hood doesn't lock with a shot like the other lenses I own, so it's a bit difficult to mount. Despite this, he is for me promoted with flying colors. sent on May 22, 2023 |
![]() | Tamron 24mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2 Pros: Cost, minimum focus distance, sharpness Cons: Slow and somewhat noisy autofocus, distortion Opinion: I bought this lens because I needed to have an intermediate length between my tokina firin 20mm f2 and the Sony 35mm f1.8. I didn't have a very high budget and I researched around. I took the tamron 24mm at 140€ used, in good condition. I must say that I was pleasantly satisfied and the expectations I had, thanks to the reviews of other users, were widely respected. It's a great lens, given the value for money, I don't think you can ask for more from Tamron. The thing that amazed me is the focusing distance, really minimal, which makes it a lens that works curiously well even in macro, at least for my experience. The moles are obviously there. The autofocus is rather slow and in some conditions where responsiveness is required it becomes unusable, it is a bit noisy (which is a problem only for video) and the distortion of the image is quite accentuated. Taking everything into account it is for me promoted with flying colors. sent on May 14, 2023 |
![]() | Pentax SMC Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm f/1.4 Pros: Sharpness, color rendering, softness of focus ring, construction, size, brightness Cons: I can't find any Opinion: It is perhaps one of the 50mm manuals that I love the most. In addition to having a wonderful aesthetic and construction, I find it to be a very beautiful lens and adapted on my Sony A7III works very well. Being manual focus takes us back to a vintage world where photography was certainly less frenetic and the shot more "meditated". I would not use it on a professional service where you need speed but for a personal search it is perfect. sent on March 23, 2023 |
![]() | Tokina Firin 20mm f/2 FE AF Pros: Weight, compactness, photo yield, thread for nd filter, brightness Cons: Af noisy and a bit snappy Opinion: It's definitely a nice goal. I switched to this from sigma art 20mm f1.4 because it is too bulky, heavy and without thread for nd filter, especially to use it in the video. On sony it works well, the distortion is really little, quite sharp even at the edges and large iris openings. I'm satisfied. Too bad for the autofocus a bit snappy and definitely noisy. sent on April 01, 2021 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 20mm f/1.8 G ED Pros: Light, bright, fast and little distortion Cons: Not sarprei Opinion: Great goal, very light and compact and small. Very bright given the opening to f1.8, the colors that gives are very beautiful as well as the quality of the blur. I think really has very little distortion, I would recommend it highly to anyone who wants to buy a fixed lens ultra wide angle. sent on August 10, 2015 |
