I do not like lenses that "cancel" the background with the apparent effect of a uniform matte layer, on the contrary: I appreciate that you can see small irregularities, textures, light onion bokeh, moderate swirl and safeguarding the possibility of putting the subject at the extreme left or right in the frame. Here, these characteristics the Pancolar has them. At TA the contrast is absolutely not comparable to a very good current lens, but it is acceptable if used properly. For close-ups of subjects (evidently non-human) it is very interesting thanks to the minimum distance of 35 cm. Not easy to find them in good condition. Put the hood on it, it loses contrast in an exaggerated way if the light enters in the wrong way.
