sigma_24_f1-4artSigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art

Pros: High sharpness, blurred, focal (once understood), colors, robustness

Cons: AF not perfect in some situations (need for calibration to be budgeted), made with artificial lights, starry "anonymous"

Opinion: Spectacular optics. I was looking for a fixed wide angle, sharp and bright to replace the Canon 24-105 L series that I had deeply disappointed. On the advice of a friend and curious to try a Sigma Art (of which I always read wonders and admired beautiful photos), I decided to throw myself on the 24 f1.4. Having both the 50l and the 135l I had initially rated the Canon 24l II. After a bit of various arrovellamentations I preferred to bet on the new Sigma compared to the Canon used since the tests found on the net the Sigma had less vignetting and I felt sharper at closed diaphragms, aspect that convinced me to throw myself on the sigma. Fearful of having problems with the AF I chose to buy it new on Amazon, so that I can replace it in case of any problems. Once mounted on my 6d are enough photos to leave me open-mouthed. This optics has an exceptional sharpness, much more than the 135l I possess. The blur is clear, without transitions and highlights the subject framed... provided to place it in the center where it is not the object of distortion and where the lens has the sharpest part. Shooting with a 24 F 1.4 was a real challenge for me..... you have to approach the subject but, composing with the subject at the center, where the distortions are reduced, you create a really amazing wow effect... I can say that some of the most beautiful photos I made I got my daughter with this lens. Recently I took a trip to Bosnia and Croatia where I took it as the only optics, satisfying myself in full and giving me some shots of which I am very satisfied. Coming to the cons I have to report that the rendition of Art is particular and coming from the Canon L series at the beginning I was puzzled. Specifically I found a flare rather pronounced when you frame a subject in backlight, positioning the sun in one of the four corners, which from origin to colored panes impossible to remove in PP, for the rest the optics seemed to me free from Flare on other less extreme occasions. Another defect I found is in the form of starry in the long night exposures in urban environments; The optics tends to keep the point lights even at closed diaphragms, presenting only a minimum hint of starry around the point light. Chapter AF: I state that I use it on Canon 6d and use the center point and then recompose using the AF-on button. As I said, not to risk I took it on Amazon, mine is almost perfect at all distances, I say almost because at full aperture, if I focus something at infinity, ends up to focus at random. Closing the diaphragm This problem does not occur. This problem is even more pronounced if you use slow times close to the safety time... it is not micro-moved, it is right out of focus. As soon as I can still I will calibrate it with the Sigma Dock. Even the 50l I did calibrate from Canon and after it went much better. Another thing I noticed is the yield in the white balance in the presence of artificial lights. This is a contrasting lens and with strong differences of light I happened that the photo was too contraed and difficult to recover in PP... Much better to exploit it with natural light where from the best of itself. I then make one last consideration on the SIGMA ART lenses: At the beginning even I was skeptical, I had pretty much just and always used Canon L series lenses... With these sigma I found a different rendition, very sharp and correct... I struggled to get used to it, then, Knowing the lens and familiarising myself with the same I figured out how to exploit it... and I really like it. It should be taken into account when evaluating the purchase. Would I buy it back? Sure. Once it happens it's a super lens!

canon_135_f2Canon EF 135mm f/2.0 L USM

Pros: Sharpness, blur, colors, lightning-fast MAF

Cons: Nothing to report

Opinion: On this optic there is little to say. It takes some time to understand the possibilities and the correct way of use but once familiarized with this lens is difficult to detach from the machine. Personally I nicknamed it the 135 F 2.8 which also drops to F2. I find in fact that closed one stop has the best yield, favoring the portraits with half a bust or American plane, compared to the narrower ones, where it is not always necessary to open the diaphragm at most. If you want instead a more dreamlike, slightly softer, you can open the diaphragm to the maximum, but paying attention to the focus and taking care to manage the distance from the subject well and the relative framing obtained to avoid out of focus Annoying. His bread are the full-length portraits but also in those half-bust you can use it well. Also tried on APS-C, it is long but excellent on the outside and the yield is not affected. Bought with some perplexity related to its possible use, I will never sell it!!! To have in a Canon kit, especially if you like portraits.

tamron_70-300vcTamron SP 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD

Pros: Price, compactness, sharpness in general, incredible stabilizer.

Cons: For me, in relation to the purchase price, no one. If you claim sharpness from the series L better not to get too many illusions.

Opinion: Exceptional lens. If you want compactness and an extended focal range you need to turn to a zoom lens, if you also want it economical I think this Tamron represents a best Buy in its market range. Paid 250 euros on Amazon, new and under warranty for 5 years (only for the first buyer) has served me faithfully for two and a half years, finding space in the camera bag without major problems and not giving particularly in the eye when mounted. The construction is good, though not at the level of a Canon L-series, and by a feeling of robustness. Used on Canon 450d, 5d and 6d I found a big difference in yield between APS-C and FF; On the reduced size for me the quality was not satisfying while on FF the image quality for me was more than good at all focal lengths. It must be said, however, that the 450d is quite old and with a sensor not really the best, needs high-level optics to show the best. The stabilizer is amazing, I came to shoot at 1/15 to 300 mm on FF, getting still images. Personally I took for years without worrying about the exposure time, always still images. Much better than the 24-105 I've owned. Personally I could see that after the 200mm there is no loss of sharpness, rather a small micro-contrast that is perceived as a slight kneading of the image. For me, however, nothing dramatic, in fact, I used it quietly at all focal lengths and at every aperture. But I do not recommend the crop, you lose much detail as the optics can not solve enough. I recommend the purchase, especially if you look for compactness, provided you do not expect extreme sharpness and crop strong. How Tele Handyman Travel in my opinion is perfect.

canon_70-200_f4Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM

Pros: Color, sharpness, focus, handling, constant f4, availability and reselling.

Cons: Lack sealing and, if needed, to stabilize.

Opinion: A great lens that allows you to use the most popular telephoto (70-85-100-135 and 200) with a single lens, always with excellent quality, a lightning-fast AF and the f4 aperture throughout the zoom range. All with an acceptable weight (about 700g) and with a great build quality. Do not forget that thanks to the fluorite lens (typical of Canon's L series) returns also very beautiful colors and a great micro contrasto.rnIl all at an affordable price, for 600 euro is a best-buy! Used both on aps-c cu that FF has always given me satisfaction, by returning to more great shots and practical use. The absence of the stabilizer? Honestly, I've never felt, using it almost always when shooting outdoors or landscape I preferred to save and take this lens and I have not ever regretted it. The sharpness, although the IS version is higher, it is still a high level. Telephoto of quality recommended!

canon_50_f1-2Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM

Pros: Blurred unique, brightness, focus, sharpness, weather sealed, built for me .... and also the focal!

Cons: Price and .... I do not have it!

Opinion: I have this lens 6 months and I feel I've let my first impressions are so excited! Really agree with what is written in the previous reviews that the only cons is not having it! RnL'ho bought it as a personal gift for the arrival of my daughter; I came more than four years of 50mm f1.8 (used both on aps-c that on FF) and after trying to fine the 50mm f1.4 in a workshop.rnChe say? I have read and studied everything on this objective by turning on the internet. Heard assessments and adventures / misadventures of all kinds, made every type of evaluation and then I threw up. I love the 50mm focal length on FF, and based on the logic (very personal) that it is better to take a few good goals but I evaluated to stake everything on a fixed quality (albeit expensive) but that I liked, rather than have three of medium quality .rnInizio by trying to answer the question on everyone's mind when assessing this lens or whether it is worth spending four times more than the f1.4 version or even twelve times more respect to the f1.8 version. For my personal assessment, yes, indeed. Let me explain my reasoning: the 50mm f1.8 I always found sufficiently clear, even at full aperture and with a blurred acceptable but the AF, especially on aps-c left a lot to be desired and it was still slow; with 50mm f1.4 USM I found the (very important and real big difference with the younger brother) and always a good yield at wide apertures, but the images in the TA found little contrast and slightly veiled while the bokeh was more agreeable with brother f1.8 aperture; the 50mm f1.2 instead is great at room temperature (not a pixel-peeper, absolutely, but it is as clear as the other lenses I have, if not more) and close more and more better, keeping intact a beautiful chromaticity and loyalty colors as well as a bokeh unico.rnNon agree then who says that is a lens that has meaning only when used in TA? .assolutamente, if you take it is to have not only the third stop in the most but also for the surrender of large apertures (f2.8 fromand over) and for maintaining a unique style for each color and bokeh diaframma.rnCapitolo AF: I use it on the 5D, so its not a thunderbolt of war and incredible ... well with the side! Honestly I did not notice a deterioration in the functioning of the AF TA compared to younger siblings?'d Say it's equal, if not better, the 50mm f1.4 used both at RT. It also works with the side, well, if it does not hook because he would not do even with other versions in my opinion. It helps a lot to use the flash with infrared .... there is really hard're wrong focus. From my brief experience though, if you fail a shot most of the time it is due to the difficulty of managing a shallow depth of field. With this lens is very important to manage the distance from the subject to have the face or both eyes in focus ... is the lens for portraits prince ambientati.rnAggiungo also a lens that is weather sealed, heavy right and well built, as well as well salable on the market. Onlla sharpness I can say that it is not like the 135L f2 but more like the 70-200 F4L for me .... absolutely valida.rnRiassumendo, if you like the 50mm focal length is a lens not to be missed because it offers really unique shots and that you do not can be achieved with the younger siblings. Spending has also more than makes sense if we look for a fixed lens quality that can also serve as a handyman and can give us the shots that stand out ... if your budget does not allow it or if the focal length we like but we already meets the version F1.4 fall for on your feet with this latest version that is worth far more than it costs.

canon_17-40Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM

Pros: Gorgeous colors, sharpness, filters 77, weather sealed (only with filter front), affordable price, Focal used, sturdy construction, availability and reselling

Cons: Yield to TA, TA vignetting

Opinion: My favorite optics as well as my first L series I used to do everything from landscapes, reportage, weddings (!), Architecture, and I was never disappointed. Beautiful colors and excellent resistance to flare, sharpness is excellent on FF than on aps-c where it becomes the equivalent of a 28-70 on FF and is a great all-rounder. On FF obviously skews between 17mm and 28mm, 28mm and 40mm between becoming perfect. The only drawback, in my opinion, is that a TA lose a little 'enamel, resulting in slightly less sharp and FF vignettando a lot I do not mind even in those situations (I love the vignetting in certain shots) but it is one thing to take into account when it assesses whether acquisto.rnSu Canon if you want a lens for landscapes is a must have in my opinion even if the new 16-35 seems to be a bomb (it costs almost twice as much though!) for a little more than € 600 (new) you have all the classic wide-angle focal lengths 17mm and the filter 77, all in half a kg of weight, so perfectly transportable. Rugged and weather sealed (only with front filter forò) also has a fast and responsive AF. Stra recommended lens on aps-c and FF!

canon_g15Canon PowerShot G15

Pros: Sensor 12 max more than enough for print quality, DIGIC 5, f1.8 lens with a minimum focal length and bright even at maximum wide angle focal length (f2.8), 35mm of focal lengths equivalent to 28-200mm or so, with the possible macro shooting Minimum focus distance of 1 cm from the front lens, Full HD video, image quality, outstanding monitor with a chance to see (and correct) the real-time display, manual controls and multiple personalization, Raw well workable, light, discreet and easily portable.

Cons: Optical viewfinder (absolutely outrageous) that decreasing the focal length of the lens sees decreased visual dall'allungarsi.

Opinion: I'm happy to say that this machine is a little ..... after almost a year since I bought it I can only speak well. I try to explain the reasons that led me to the purchase of this machine (and the Canon G series in particular) than others, and that now I have fully satisfied, I wanted a compact, lightweight, discreet and portable that I needed in the mountains in climbing trips where space saving is a virtue and that could take me to work to make the shots left the office without having to bring 5D and objectives; also looking for a decent machine for environments where travel and go out with the camera in the neck can be risky; last thing I was looking for a solution not too expensive to make videos in Full HD.rnDevo say that in all these things the car turned out to be excellent, fully responding to my requests, so that the use not only in the mountains and sometimes in preference to the SLR . In choosing also Referring to the pros, they weighed the excellent image quality (will not yield a FF but raw are very beautiful and well lavordisabled - no recoveries exaggerated though - ensuring quality up to 1600 ISO, and sometimes up to 3200 down to some sort of compromise while after it is unusable), full compatibility with the Canon flash, the bright lens (f1.8) to the minimum focal length that ensures fastest times and a good focus and especially the manual controls and customizable (which for me represented a mandatory element.) RNA Actually among the elements I was looking for was also part of the optical viewfinder, which, as stated in contrast, believe inadequate for a car like that .... I used it once and then I let it go ...... with the monitor that you leave immediately lose .... and I have always been accustomed to look through the viewfinder, not in the monitor ! rnSegnalo Finally, with the excellent monitor that is attached and the histogram display for exposure is possible to observe the change of exposure in real time to changes in parameters in this shot ...... l ' I found it fantastic! rnMacchina strategic recommended!

canon_5dCanon 5D

Pros: Outstanding image quality, full frame sensor, the noise kept going up to ISO, ISO 50 and ISO 3200.

Cons: Monitor dated (not as much quality as the size), the center point AF precise but slow for certain types of photography as well as ISO 1600, there are intermediate sensitivity but directly Iso 3200.

Opinion: After having bought used about 6 months ago I think I got an idea of ??this machine and I can not help but recommend it. For those who want the full size and does not have much capital to spend is acceptable figures in the used market, and represents a big jump from the machines amateur, not only for the full frame sensor that offers picture quality and a yield of fuzzy exceptional but also for the workability of the Raw produced by it. Both in Jpeg that produces excellent Raw files that are perfectly workable with plenty of room for recovery dele shadows or highlights, definitely better than aps-c. The yield of the blurred, as mentioned, is fantastic and gives a lot of three-dimensional images ..... has virtually changed the idea I had of my goals (all structured to FF), enhancing them and making them make the most of. In contrast, the AF (I only use the center point) can be slow to follow fast movements and to be taken for, is a machine quieter and more thoughtful. The seal against noise is exceptional in my opinion, very remembering the film. Up to ISO 1000 I honestly do not find it and after only a grain that I really like, just remember the film (even at ISO 3200!). In summary it is a machine that I recommend highly to anyone who wants the FF but has limited resources to invest, you will not be disappointed!

canon_50_f1-8_v2Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

Pros: Lightweight, cost, portability, value for money.

Cons: Focus is not USM, is all plasticky!

Opinion: I got it long ago for the very low cost and the desire to have a fixed light. Of Aps-c I never liked; became a 80mm equivalent of 450D and I did not like very much as focal ..... Every now and then plus the focus was a little ballerina and often resorted to manual focus, the focus instead was good as well as the sharpness but, as I have said, does not thrill me. Things have changed with the move to FF, the blur that is able to offer the entire opening is wonderful and great sharpness! The focal length of 50mm effective then told me all his potential, conquistandomi right now ..... even the MAF has improved, becoming perfect. Result: I wanted to sell it and now I keep it tight ...... it costs very little and FF makes it to the fullest! Remains a lens to try to realize what it means to have a fixed light in his hands. Good ..... and if you'll use it on FF does not tear off more, it is light and unobtrusive, perfect for portraits ambientati without being too obvious.

canon_28_f2-8Canon EF 28mm f/2.8

Pros: Light, bright, sharp enough, good color rendering, price.

Cons: A bit soft at room temperature, ring MAF not great (but of fifty is much worse!).

Opinion: I got this lens because bright and lightweight and good to take trips to the mountains in the more demanding ones, combined with a entry-level SLR fact allows to reduce the weight while being able to have a good 44 mm f2, 8 equivalent. I've never tried it on FF but reduced the sensor behaves very well, the sharpness is very good, while still remaining a little softer wide open, just close one stop to recover sharpness. The colors are well managed, does not introduce dominant. Compared to the other lens in my possession, the Canon EF 17-40mm L, it is more clear, however, being the lightest 28mm often prefer to take the drive that guarantees me still a good image quality. The ring of MAF is not great but the right grip and allows for precise manual focus. Given the affordable price I would recommend this to anyone who wants a wide angle lens valid light and light to carry anywhere without breaking the bank.

canon_450dCanon 450D

Pros: Lightweight, easy to use, live view, image quality quite good.

Cons: High ISO (up to 400 is better not to use it!), Burst slow viewfinder (but I think this is so on all models xxxD).

Opinion: This is my first and only SLR. It gave me a lot of satisfaction, after the sensor to the demands of a lover is more than satisfactory. Suffers from high ISO, up from the 400 is better not to use, especially in situations of high contrast. This burst and slow I think they represent the greatest limitations of this machine. For the rest it is a good model to start having also live view, very useful in certain situations. I'm fully satisfied even after 3 years I feel the need for a more powerful machine with high sensitivity and with a burst better. Recommended to start or as a second body easy to carry anywhere (I use mountain climbing trips in!).
