![]() | Nikon Z 50mm f/1.2 S Pros: Solid construction, right and consistent sharpness on all apertures, fast and precise autofocus, correct skin tones. It makes the machine stackable on a medium format. Cons: I don't need the screen on the barrel Opinion: I hear many people talking negatively about this lens, saying that it costs too much for what it is and that the 1.8 is pretty much the same thing. If you don't understand the meaning of this lens, don't buy it. This is very true. It makes sense in reality... Three-dimensionality, backlight management, autofocus response, realistic skin tones, magical boke, professional solidity, impressive sharpness at 1.2 minimum distance, practically the camera becomes a medium format, it makes more sense used on sensors with many megapixels to be able to make the most of the sharpness at full aperture it has, etc. Mounted on Z6 it is very unbalanced. It should be used on Z9 to have perfect balance. sent on November 10, 2024 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 58mm f/1.4 G Pros: For this lens alone it's worth staying at the dsrl Cons: Diaphragm adjustable only by camera body Opinion: With this lens I would do everything, this would be enough for me. It is the only one that maintains its being. Against the light it holds up stunningly, small and light. Modern lenses (from g onwards) are cold, perfect, razor-sharp but they are bland. This puts you in dialogue with the photographer and allows you to write with ease, helping to give a vital vibration to your subjects. The vibration I'm talking about has always been the case with previous cameras and optics and it has been lost with digital and even more so with contemporary optics. Everything has become standardized. With this one, on the other hand, I find that energy with the added comforts of contemporaneity. At 1.4 it has a very soft focus part and maintains a softness even at closed apertures. It is not a blade but it is a tool to represent, even if only to express oneself. Sharpness is a bourgeois concept, and I'm not interested in seeing a perfectly sharp iris on a file that is displayed at 200%. I don't switch to ML just to keep using it. A camera system is based on optics for me and not on purely technical elements such as burst or similar. At this point the only thing I care about the ML is the battery life and apart from Z9 we are not there yet. For now, I continue to rely on optics that help me express what I mean and this is the most centered and versatile I know. sent on January 01, 2024 |
![]() | Fujifilm GFX100 II Pros: Very nice file, great usability. Fast and responsive AF. Cons: Hard-to-manage files Opinion: Tested with the 110 f2. Beautiful machine but 200MB Raw files. Developed in TIF it then becomes 600MB. If you work with Photoshop by doing a few layers and curves you can easily reach 4GB of files. So Ps can't even save them. What do I do with a file that I can't work with in PS? In fashion photography it is necessary to post-produce in Ps in 90% of cases... Nice but files too difficult to manage in terms of size. I keep the D850. I made a comparison between Nikon D850 and this MF. Ok there is more three-dimensionality, more pixels, but the D850 file is still very competitive. sent on November 27, 2023 |
![]() | Leica M8 / M8.2 Pros: The M8 is the only M to have the ability to shoot at 1/8000. Kodak CCD sensor. Wonderful basic iso color rendering. It's an M in all. Cons: Crop factor, noisy shot, approximate frames. Opinion: I've been shooting with the M system for several years and I'm in love with it. Those who know the Leica rangefinder and have experienced it can understand what are the advantages of shooting with such a seemingly antiquated machine. I took this used machine at 1040€ on ebay with 2 batteries case and filter. The machine is really great, I just had to clean up the sensor which was dusty. I'm using it without uv/ir cut flitro and so far I haven't had a problem. Some black polyester fabrics are purple, just a post correction at the limit. For now I've only used it at 160iso and I feel good like that. I really wanted it to use it outdoors in full light. The colors of the ccd are really beautiful. When you view the raw it feels like you see a scan of a slide, it makes a really nice effect, it has an impressive cleanliness in detail, the cmos is much more digital. An abysmal difference, I didn't really believe until I saw it. Certainly with the D850 recovery 4 stops in post and with this at most one. Very saturated and sharp colors. I never use it for the BN but those few times from great satisfaction. I recommend this machine hotly, the 10mpx are exploited to the fullest and are fine for almost everything except for huge prints or forced crop. It is a machine full of limits but it is precisely these limits that foster creativity. I think it's a perfect car for anyone who wants to shoot with an M without spending a fortune. I mainly use it with a 35mm Zeiss Biogon f/2 which becomes almost a 50. To make the calculation of the focal point you have to multiply by 1.33. It is an M in all things, with some youthful ness that must be managed and that makes it even more unique. sent on August 30, 2020 |
![]() | Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH Pros: Perfect lens. Cons: Nothing. Opinion: Usually shot with the Summicron fourth version (11819). I didn't think there was that much difference. 11819 has a vintage personality and you can see it well. Somehow it remembers the film because all its small imperfections, being a lens of the 70s, give that flavor of the film of those years. The APO is another world, something spectacular, perfect. It seems to see a file taken with an average 100MP format. Basically the 11819 has a vintage film-like personality, which I love. The APO turns the machine into a very light medium format, perfection, I didn't think the machine sensor was that good, with the old lens you don't appreciate the sensor like that. It's a very three-dimensional lens, with the APO the files seem to come out of the monitor. Lately I have been trying the 100mp Phaseone with its top-of-the-range lenses. The impression that the on-screen files give is very similar to what I saw yesterday with the files of the Leica M Monochrom typ246+50apo, it manages to solve all 24mp and gives the impression that they are even more. A whole other world than my 11819 which instead has a more film mood and is as if it can exploit only part of the sensor's potential. That is my impression. In practice, the 246+50apo becomes almost a medium format. At this point, I have to say that it would also be amply justified. Anyway, I still love my 50, who has a lot to say, in his own way. But now I know what 246 can do for real. ![]() | Leica Tele-Elmar-M 135mm f/4 Pros: value for money Cons: Weight, size Opinion: Buy this lens a long time ago, I found it cheap and I took it by thinking of using it on Leica M6. Then he stayed in the closet and made only a few clicks. Too uncomfortable frame with the range finder and frame 135 too small. Then I bought Leica M Monochrom typ246 and I started to use it, thanks to the live view and the chance to shoot a lot in digital, I did not think it was such a high performance lens. I use it mostly in studio for portraits and it works which is a wonder. ![]() | Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) Pros: The personalities that have always had the Leica M. Making black and white with a machine that can not make the color is much better, the concentration always stays on the BN release and there are no distractions of color. In practice, the brain always thinks in black and white. With a car that also makes color there is always the temptation to catch some color shots and is a reason for distraction and deconcentration from what you want to do, that is, the BN.rnCrazy detail, equal to a medium format. Cons: Slow ignition times. Absence of multiple exposures. Opinion: The Leica M Monochrom Typ246 is a crazy machine. What it means to shoot with a Leica M can only know who owns one, there is little to do. You do not have to try it for a few clicks, you have time to get into your logic, your way of acting, your way of doing photography. The most significant advantage of this machine is that its features help you discover your way of photographed, no frills, compels you to think, accompany you, always ready and reactive, giving you confidence; Feel that you are the one you are expressing, removing obstacles between you and your photography. For this I find it even harder to photograph with a M, if the photo is wrong you see there is little to do, it is sincere. These I think are the most important features I've known on the Leica M6 and I've found equal on the M Monochrom Typ246. Compared to the M6, however, the M Monochrom is slightly larger and I find this to be a shame because%3B the M6 ??has a perfect balance (with a Summicron 50mm pre-aspherical). Obviously, the D800e grip is all the more, keep it with two fingers with a 70-200 mounted, while Leica M should always keep it tight in hand without having any support for your fingers. There is an optional grip even with gps that I have never tried. In the snap approach, with the rangefinder, the absence of autofocus is absolutely an advantage, I find the rangefinder much faster and more precise. Obviously use it to make photography of sports or naturalistic would make little sense, in those cases the autofocus is fundamental, without taking these genres for me the manual focus with the rangefinder is perfect. The raw approach is completely different from the files in a reflex, the files look alive, behave in a very different way. A limit I have found with respect to the D800e is that burnt whites are hard to recover, high lights are cut off inexorably. If he gets half a stop, if it's okayOne stop. In the shadows, however, there are no problems, they are recovering well even up to almost 4 stops. For this reason, with Monochrom it is advised to underdrive at -0.3 or even -0.7EV, I must admit that it is uncomfortable to not be able to see the desired exposure in the preview. Also in the viewfinder it is uncomfortable to see the -0.7 of the exposure compensation that impacts the meter when you look into the viewfinder. So the shooting approach is all the opposite of the D800e with which it is preferable to over-display and recover the high lights later. With the orange filter you recover a lot and there is no need to underestimate it but still you have to be careful and be aware that the burnt areas will be irreversible. As for the iso, up to 5000iso the noise is almost nonexistent; The 12500iso makes the noise that the D800e does to 4000iso. I do not dwell on the detail and the clarity because it must be tested and seen with one's own eyes and besides it is a very influenced factor by 'Used optics. In any case, having the color bayer is as if the 24MP were actually 92MP. Apart from this incredible technical data, it is a machine that re-uses the intrinsic features of photography that, in my opinion, were, with the advent of digital, losing. It does not mimic a film machine, it's just a car that takes photographs as they always did before digital but in digital, with the benefits of preview, raw, reduced costs, and so on. With digital reflexes I do not have the same feeling. I thought that with the digital it had lost that "physical" relationship with photography, but now I have to rewrite, the Leica M Monochrom Typ246 has a completely different approach to the reflex, both in shooting and in the post. It is not a question of vs digital film or gamma vs reflex rangefinder. I started to shoot with an M6 and took it for 5/6 years. Then I went to the digital SLRs and started doing photography for work. Since I took the Monochrom the feeling I have is that coN the reflexes I lost time with regard to my photograph. Then for work it is obvious that the reflex is crucial because it allows you to do everything. With M Monochrom instead it is as if I had my M6 again but with the reels and the infinite specimens. So considering the exaggerated price, it was just for the time saving (very important factor) and for the cheap of rolls, development and specimens, it's worth it. I use a fairly intense use that I can not afford with the film. It is not a digital machine that imitates an analogy, has its own specific features that obviously the film can not have and that I need it. A bad note: to ignite takes a couple of seconds which I think are too many, the immediacy of the D800e I miss when I turn it on. Even when it comes back after the standby itself, too slow. The sensation you are taking with the Monochrom is that for the first time since the advent of the digital camera has come back to make a photograph as it had always done before the digitBut with the advantages of digital, in short, the first true digital camera. And who could make this utopia if not Leica. That is, those who invented the photography of the 900.nn The lenses I have are: Summicron 50mm (fourth version) and Tele-Elmar 135mm. I'm thinking of taking a Summicron 90mm (retractable head). ![]() | Olympus Tough TG-4 Pros: Tascabilità, f / 2 aperture, underwater, RAW file format, image quality generally good. GPS, Wi-Fi. Macro very good. Aperture priority. Cons: Inability to shoot RAW + JPG with filters available, shoot in RAW only with some presets. Inability to manage settings manually with some of the activated filters. All limits of a compatta.Camera RAW CS5 and Capture One 8 can not read RAW this machine so I had to download a software of Olympus that compared to those who normally use is very limited and basic. It does not keep the f / 2 aperture throughout the zoom range, but only on the most wide-angle (25mm equivalent). Inability of management totally manual (only the aperture priority and also allows you to choose only between 3 opening for example: between f / 2, f / 2.8 and f / 8 when you are with the wide-angle). Opinion: I purchased this compact to take pictures underwater summer during the holidays. But then I realized it could be used for many other things, such as the MACRO works really well with the focus to 1cm. Its portability allows you to do many things with a camera would be impossible or at least very uncomfortable. It 'a machine very fun and intuitive. With one hand, you can shoot and access to all the menus. Sealing is also excellent in the sea. Council rinse with fresh water after use at sea. The picture quality is pretty good. Also good autofocus. RAW files are certainly not those of the D800 but still allow some management. As show we can also gain a stop in post, more than one stop the image begins to fray. Unfortunately Raw are not readable by my professional software and can open them only with Olympus Viewer 3 which is very limited and basic. The shutter speeds to arrive at most 4secondi and the time più fast as possible is 1/2000. Shutter speed of 1/2000 to me it seems too little, it would be much better if it came at least in 1/4000 because when shooting at f / 2 ISO 100 in broad daylight 1/2000 is a time too slow and was forced to close the diaphragm. Unfortunately it is totally manageable in manual but you can only use the aperture priority, and you can only choose between three diaphragms (fully open, intermediate and closed). The optical system is 25 to 100mm equivalent, is good in all lengths, but I think that gives her better all-wide-angle (25mm). However I am very happy with our purchase and is a car that always carry with me on all occasions. Using the TG-4 you realize what a full-frame SLR is heavy and bulky and make it practically impossible to take a later image. ![]() | Nikon AF 28mm f/1.4 D Pros: Solid construction, diaphragm ring, sharpness at 1.4, autofocus, general contrast, color rendering, with the D800 is very balanced. Cons: not very quiet autofocus. Price. Opinion: It's a fascinating glass, every shot looks magical. The weight perfectly balances the D800e. Autofocus is not as quiet as the latest generation lenses but it is still very precise, which at 1.4 is very important. The fluidity of manual fire is very pleasant. Sharpness at 1.4 makes an impression. The general contrast and color rendering are also magnificent. It is a lens that I would recommend to everyone, although not easy to find. Paid 1900€ on ebay in February 2015 with HK-7 lampshon. I know it is madness but I am not repentant at all, it is a value that remains over time and is an uncompromising lens of quality. I think like 28mm around there's nothing better. sent on February 26, 2015 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4 G Pros: One of the best optics in the Nikkor Park. Fuzzy creamy, good sharpness even at 1.4, excellent construction materials, scales the body d800 fine. AF very precise and fast. Cons: Price. Pity that it is not 1.2 like the canon that at full aperture is also sharper than the Nikon (but the Nikon wins in other respects as the precision of AF and sharpness at the edges). It's not VR.
