nikon_zfNikon Zf

Pros: Aesthetics, operating speed, magic colors, manual use, backward compatibility, lightness, construction, very fast AF, stabilizer

Cons: No one, but there are those who don't understand it...

Opinion: Let's say it right away: the Zf is the sweet point of the Nikon range, that is, the best general-purpose camera that can be found on the market. Excellent balance between quality and price, it gives emotions just by looking at it. Beautiful and retro, impeccable construction and excellent ergonomics. It deserves to be used manually as if it were a Nikkormat or an FM. Close the rear screen, put it in manual, maybe in b/w with the quick selection from the ring and mount some old Nikkor: the enjoyment starts. The focus assist is very advanced and the ZF recognizes the subject and considers it for focus peaking. No one else in the world does the same. The wonderful sensor has an exceptional dynamic range, as tradition Nikon.Vi will feel like shooting on a slide, with superb white balance. It has all the electronic features of the other Nikons, without emerging too much compared to the retro aspect: when needed they are there. The AF has nothing to envy compared to the flagship Z9, even if obviously it does not have the same power and variety of settings. In this it is even easier and more direct to use. It does not look bad in action photos and you can select the AF area simply by sliding your thumb on the rear screen, a much simpler and faster solution than the complex and inaccurate Eye AF system of well-known competitors: nothing to fear, nothing to calibrate, no insecurity: tap and move the AF area. A delicious pastry to lose your head for. I'll also take a red and a blue one: how can I resist? After all, you only live 2 times, in the face of so many keyboard lions... Look at the photos of Juza with Zf and Noct and you will understand. You are at the top, without displeasing anyone. Treat yourself to at least one pleasure in life!

canon_6d_mark_iiCanon 6D Mark II

Pros: Not much, its competitors do all better

Cons: It is no longer even remotely related to the wonderful rendering of the 6D and continues to be awkward AF, although more precise than the previous one. In the viewfinder when you illuminate a focus point turns on red and you can no longer see anything

Opinion: As usual, Canon does one thing and gets two wrong. The old 6D was for me the best sensor ever produced by Canon in terms of color rendering and three-dimensionality. Not a dynamic range to be surprised, but it was one of my favorites on par with that of the Nikon DF. It was enough to make the AF better, which was to be desperate, and to make the selection of AF points simple and direct. None of this. Forget forever the beauty of the old sensor of the 6D: this in addition to being flat and ordinary, no longer gives the magic that was created previously. The selection of AF points has remained slow and cumbersome even if the focus on the sides has certainly improved. Well, isn't it? No... Because instead of illuminating only the sensor in use in red, a 1000-watt headlight lights up that no longer lets you see anything of the viewfinder. I keep it, together with the R (another failure) just to be able to use some EF L series lenses of which I do not dare to undoRMI.

nikon_z14-24_f2-8Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S

Pros: all

Cons: nothing

Opinion: I tried to resist for a while, having the F version that I used via FTZ... But I didn't make it and this morning I got it. Beautiful, superb construction, amazing size and weight compared to the old f version and an optical yield above suspicion. At the moment it is the best 14/24 2.8 in the world and I think it will be very difficult to do better. It is the classic optics that makes you choose a SYSTEM and that is kept on the stock exchange for decades. Indispensable for landscape designers and street has the additional advantage of not being noticed too much. Optical performance is excellent at all apertures. It does not suffer from flares, nor from showy and complicated aberrations. The sharpness is at the highest level and no equivalent of the competition equals it. Another blow of Nikon, of those epic and colossal.

nikon_z85_f1-2sNikon Z 85mm f/1.2 S

Pros: Everything

Cons: Weight, but it is well balanced

Opinion: It took at least 30 years and a bayonet change to finally get an 85mm 1.2 AF from Nikon.Ma it was worth it... As a lens manufacturer, Nikon has always been a bit above average and is now taking the stage in defiance of the competition: this lens is absolutely the best it has been possible to conceive. It is true, it does not cost little and weighs a lot, but it is excellently balanced both on Z6II and on Z9, as if to reiterate that it is prestige optics. To me it seemed better balanced than the 50 1.2 and, with these weights and dimensions, it was not at all obvious. Superb sharpness, Digital Camera puts it far above the equivalent Canon Rf (which I remember erased forever the magic of the old EF, which I still own ...), even at full aperture. Never annoying or surgical, only very important at all openings, it sports exemplary bokeh and optimal highlight control. For the rest it is the wand of Harry Potter: from him arise spells and magic that no brand today can give in equal measure. It will become the new reference for this focal length. I quickly compared it with the Canon EF which is a real masterpiece and, although it came out victorious, it reconfirms the goodness of the Canon project of the time. the Canon is less sharp, especially at full aperture and with aberrations and flare much more pronounced, but we are still talking about a very old optical scheme. Nikon has the merit of having exceeded certain limits, but of having maintained the magic. Coast? And we would miss it!

canon_eos_rCanon EOS R

Pros: Robustness at least apparent, curtain cover sensor.

Cons: everything else

Opinion: In my compulsive madness and still being in possession of some canon EF lenses of excellence, I decided to take this R and try it. Ergonomically it is a difficult and uncomfortable machine: even for those who are used to Canon, with this R you do not get too excited. The touch bar is a flop that we were charged and it is useless: almost everyone disengages it and Canon has obviously disengaged it. I do not think we will hear again soon and I do not understand why they insist on playing with the controls of the machine avoiding the most obvious, such as direct AF points selector or power button that changes place to each model. At the sensor level there is little to be cheerful: noise even at low ISO, dynamic range not received (I use it constantly with 2/3 of under exposure), distorted Canon colors. I'm obviously talking about the Jpeg in the room that very often exhibits decidedly embarrassing color dominants. The white balance itself is rather bizarre and changes a lot even if you move the frame by a few millimeters. When he succeeds, it's fine, but... Burst (?) non-existent, many film winders did better (and it is also mirrorless ...), focus and automatic exposure are guaranteed up to about 3 ftg per second. The beauty is that the viewfinder has a pronounced lag so, if you add the non-existent burst to the delay of the viewfinder you find yourself practically in the almost impossibility of shooting at moving subjects, even slow, especially if erratic. The feature of being able to select the AF area through the touch screen would be valid if it were accurate and fast, but unfortunately it is not. Together with his partner Rp are two bodysuits that are placed completely outside of a possible system, given the limits and characteristics. Only the RF bayonet remains, but thinking of mounting new optics even if not always better than the old EF versions on this catafalque is an announced suicide. To sell they sell, but only because there is the inscription Canon above. Firmware updates have been few and very stingy. Definitely not recommended because it would make you HATE the ML world immediately. The functions attributable to the touch bar and buttons are the least useful and essential. Gigantic flop.

nikon_z50_f1-2Nikon Z 50mm f/1.2 S

Pros: all

Cons: costs a bang

Opinion: The perfect optics. Beautiful, imposing, superb construction. Despite this still manageable and balanced: on Z6II with original BG it is a solid and portable whole. The sharpness at full aperture is incredible, as well as the speed and precision of the focus. And then the magic... As for detachment and three-dimensionality' has practically no rivals to this focal. Perfect flare resistance and creamy and very pleasant bokeh, even with distant subjects. Maybe Nikon took thirty years to make a 50 1.2 AF, but now that it has done so it has silenced everyone else. Perhaps the best Nikon lens ever produced. Of course it costs, but it's not a Mitakon... I dare not imagine what he can do in the hands of a true marriage and expert portraitist!

nikon_z9Nikon Z9

Pros: This time just everything

Cons: the existence of detractors who do not possess it or even have never taken it in hand ...

Opinion: Is there a perfect machine? Yes and it's the Z9! In it converge decades of Nikon excellence in the production and design of flagships. Compared to the flagships of the past, it fits perfectly into the line of no compromises, power, speed, ergonomics and reliability. Conceptually Nikon wanted to create a flagship that was also an all arounder, thus allowing a single camera body to perform the functions previously assigned to the D850 and D6. Even the cost is low compared to the competition, given what the Z9 offers. It would be impossible to make a complete and exhaustive description in a few lines, but there are 3/4 cosette on which beats the language of the Ktester (keyboard reviewers ...) and on which it is worth dwelling. 1) The viewfinder. Simply perfect in spite of those who judge it by comparing numbers and asterisks written on the brochure: in reality it is of a total and absolute usability, the so-called "Game Changer". 2) The AF: impeccable ... 3) The performance at high ISO: equal to that of the D850 which involves above all knowing how to really use noise reduction in post production. Almost no one does it well and they blame the car. Less ISO certainly helps them but it certainly does not teach them to make PP and therefore make the most of the enormous potential of the Z9. 4) The gust... power is nothing without control... And in this Z9 exhibits an impressive constancy of results, close to 100%, with incredible AF and AE conservation. 5) Management of the optics of the F system. 6) The electronic shutter: guarantees that there will be no more mechanical parts that can be worn over time. In terms of operation, it even beats the hybrid systems that Nikon itself produces. Nothing to say: it goes perfectly. And here we are sorry for those who hastily did not believe in the Nikon SYSTEM: the long F-mount canvases rise to new life (confirming the goodness of the initial project), guaranteeing speed and precision that leave you speechless. Never give away Nikon stuff... Ah I forgot ... IT'S BEAUTIFUL!
