Pros: All

Cons: Z lenses still non-existent

Opinion: Peremptory, without mincing words. It was the camera that every enthusiast had dreamed of for years: a vintage mirrorless camera with a full-frame sensor. After more than a decade, someone has finally satisfied us, in this case Nikon. After the unsuccessful attempt of the ZFc, bad given the fierce competition from Fuji, it finally listens to the fans. The machine is perfect, there's little to say. The sensor is not exaggerated, a 24mpx with AA filter, but brought to the state of the art, without excesses of resolution absolutely out of context in 90% of cases for an amateur. The processor coming from the Z8\\Z9 flagships then, is a definite value. It is therefore not a re-bodied Z6ii, but more likely a re-bodied Z6iii (not yet on the market). The body is made of magnesium and transmits solidity. The "modern" look of the rear is a bit out of tune, they could have found some tricks to make the car look more vintage without sacrificing usability. For the rest, everything is there, including some goodies to improve manual focus, such as automatic zoom on the eye even with contactless manual lenses. Basically, the moment he perceives an eye in the frame, you will see a square appear, and in case you press the magnifying glass, the crop for fine focus will be done on the eye area, and not in the center of the frame. Crazy help, but which I doubt will remain Nikon's prerogative for much longer. The grip then with lenses intended for "manual" use I don't even find it so narrow. Obviously, if you want to use lenses such as the 70-200, the external grip becomes mandatory at this point. It should be noted that the cost is low, about 49€, a miracle for an original grip. At this point I would have given it away together with the car, but apparently Nital seems to do so. The only con that I would like to report is a still inadequate lens park, the SE versions with vintage references are plastics, without bezel, with painted plastic inserts and even plastic bayonet: a strong no. To conclude, I can only recommend the camera, it is the dream of anyone who uses vintage manual lenses and wants to have fun without adapters, and which can become a professional tool if necessary.

Pros: Performance, robustness, old-style form factor

Cons: Nothing, knowing what you are buying and being willing to invest in optics

Opinion: I'm not one of those crazy ML enthusiasts but that's the future, so after 45 years of SLR photography I had to adapt. And following an excellent start with the Z9 I found myself thinking of a second body to use for travel and around. I had no doubts, the Zf was the car for me: breathtaking old-style design (with huge technical and substantial improvements compared to the Df from which it is inspired), magnesium alloy bodywork that gives a great sense of robustness, masterful performance. Some sympathizers describe it as a Z6 II-like one, raving about the fact that the processor is the same, but those who make an effort to oil the synapses discover that the Zf - as well as the Z9 - is equipped with Expeed 7, high-efficiency RAW compression, advanced AF of the latest generation with a very different level of recognition, -10 EV in low light (the Z6 II goes up to -6 EV...), stabilization of 8 stops on 5 axes, faster maximum shutter speeds and, last but not least, the Zf is also the only one equipped with the revolutionary Pixel Shift Multi Shot. Let's also remember that the ZF uses magnesium alloy, the plastic leaves it to the other models. As I said at the beginning of the discussion, with the Z6 II it has in common only the sensor, everything else is decidedly superior. Personally I use it as a second body for street and travel, I dedicated a Z 50mm and a Z 20mm both f 1.8 to it, obtaining an easily transportable and extremely high-performance layette. But my high-end Z lenses also go great with this little vintage monster! Anyone who thinks of buying a Zf and then equipping it with that embarrassing Tamr-ikon hybrid stuff, extravagant zoommons of dubious origin or tiny pancake-like avant-garde wastes his money, that's my opinion then do as you want... And at this point the millennial - the one who before the advent of digital cameras has never picked up a camera - stands up loudly complaining that the ZF has little grip. Well, I also remind the millennial that the object is openly inspired by the form factor of mechanical reflexes which, but lo and behold, on the front were absolutely smooth. A bit like the Leica M, so to speak. And that in any case to acquire grip you can equip it with Smallrig or, a choice that I certainly support, with an excellent half leather case. To close, for what are my needs, the Zf is an absolute top with a very high value for money, excellent both as a first choice and associated with the Z9 to form a devastating combination!

Pros: Beautiful from an aesthetic point of view, file quality, sensor and processor (the same as Z8 and Z9)

Cons: No grip

Opinion: I took the car as soon as it came out and I must say that in addition to being really beautiful it is also a great car. I use it in a professional field especially in combination with the NIKON NIKKOR Z 24-70MM F/2.8 S and the results are excellent. Quality files, excellent autofocus and very good sealing at high iso. The weak point is the grip, but it is partly solved with the small rig that provides the NItal.

Pros: Aesthetics, build quality, sensor

Cons: The Z optics clash a bit with the vintage look of the body, but it's certainly not a flaw of the camera.

Opinion: I bought this car because it's beautiful, and it's certainly the stupidest reason to make such a purchase. On the other hand, I was already familiar with the Z6 sensor and knowing that it was paired with the Expeed 7 certainly could not disappoint me... In fact, the ZF is a lady camera, practical, fast, solid, precise and easy to handle. The AF is very fast, more than can be used (in my opinion) for a camera designed for thoughtful, weighted and if you want "artistic" photography in the broadest sense of the term. It's nice to hold it in your hands, feel that weight and those clicks of the dials, put your eye in the viewfinder and immediately feel in today's Nikon world, among the latest technologies cleverly hidden inside a vintage body. And let's face it, on the technological front it will certainly not be a Z8 but it defends itself well, especially when there is little light and the ISO goes up. Then you notice the ease with which the 24 mpx sensor brings home the file: clean, malleable, ready. Nital sent me the SmallRig at home, which fits very well with the ZF and greatly improves its ergonomics without affecting the aesthetics. It makes you want to take it with you everywhere!

Pros: Beautiful and indispensable, immediately a great feeling for those who have always had Nikon

Cons: Still not a very simple grip.

Opinion: Arrived a day ago, great feeling immediately, sharp images and splendid autofocus responsiveness, compared to the ZFC it stands out for a more rational combination of manual controls and menu management, I liked it immediately for this, but above all because it is made of metal. Advanced management of features that I didn't find, for some features, even on the Z8, although the latter is something else. Stabilization and impact at high ISO really remarkable. Only the grip leaves a little to be desired but anyway it's a lot of stuff compared to the competition, which is now gnawing, finally Nikon is back with a series of realizations that enhance the qualities of a winning project. And this is definitely a 10 laude machine!!
