sigma_24-70_f2-8dnSigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art

Pros: Solid construction, bokeh, sharpness, excellent microcontrast, AF speed, no AC

Cons: Nothing, maybe the famous 24mm vignetting but nothing dramatic

Opinion: Yes, in the end I took this Sigma glass to replace the Lumix 24-105 f4. A choice considered for a long time because the Lumix is a great lens, but the Sigma quality and the f2.8 aperture were decisive in the final decision. Having the Lumix 70-200 I also wanted to rationalize the kit, completed by the Sigma 14-24 f2.8 DG DN that I own, and count with a valid lens also for video shooting. Praised in dozens of editorial reviews and videos (take a look at Youtube), loved by many professional photographers and enthusiasts. So, fantastic goal, if ever there was any doubt. Superlative sharpness, perfect contrast, CA practically absent especially at focal lengths and lower apertures, distortions under control, very well managed flare or almost absent. Light vignetting, easily solved in PP, while I point out the presence of a delicate and progressive bokeh thanks to the f2.8 aperture and the 11 blades of the diaphragm. Pro construction like every Sigma Art, weight adequate to the general quality, perfectly balanced on the Lumix S1 on which it is mounted, lightning AF on a par with native optics, very fluid and regular rings and a very useful function button that I use for selecting the focus area, hood with lock button. I thought that any alternative could make me regret the beloved Lumix 24-105, but this Sigma replaces it perfectly and painlessly, offering more even at the expense of the lower focal length. I also point out the reduced focusing distance (18 cm on the 24mm focal length) and the gasket on the bayonet that protects the lens and camera from dust. It is not stabilized, but the excellent stabilization of the S1 makes up for the lack. It must be said that some specimens have presented dust tightness problems, with dirt infiltrating the front lens block. Sigma has provided free total cleaning and dust tightness adjustment for specimens that have registered this problem up to serial number 55641775. Beyond this serial the lenses produced have been updated with a dust and dirt proof seal, definitively solving the problem. To conclude, Pro objective to which to deliver your creativity without fear, with the certainty of using a truly valid tool in terms of optical performance, versatility and general quality. All with a very affordable price.

panasonic_s_pro70-200_f4Panasonic Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f/4 OIS

Pros: Solid construction, sharpness, MF bezel, OIS stabilization, responsive and fast AF

Cons: Nothing, just the price..

Opinion: PRO quality objective certified by Leica. This alone should be enough to describe this glass. Relatively compact and lightweight, it offers truly excellent images on every focal length and on all apertures. The f/4 brightness is compensated by an effective stabilization that, combined with the OIS of the Lumix S series (Dual IS), allows you to shoot up to 6 stops of gain. In optical terms, the lens offers excellent flare control and an excellent reduction of chromatic aberrations on contrast zones with highlights. Responsive, fast and accurate AF. Tropicalized, aluminum shell, solid and high quality construction. Together with the 24-105 completes what is necessary to photograph everything. Cheaper and more compact than the f/2.8 version is sold at a price that is not exactly affordable, and this in my opinion is the only negative aspect.

sigma_14-24_f2-8dnSigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art

Pros: Image quality and definition, sharpness, build quality, compactness, weather resistance, weight and solidity

Cons: Rear filters

Opinion: I bought this new lens, at an advantageous price. What can I say, I use it with extreme satisfaction in architecture, landscape and interior photography. I think that everything has already been said about the quality of this glass, with dozens of tests and comparisons. In its version for L mount it is totally integrated with the machine, in my case Lumix S1. Fast and precise autofocus, smooth dials, very useful and well-positioned function key. As for the images it gives, it is really excellent: sharpness over the entire frame, flare content, excellent correction of distortions, faithful and incisive reproduction of colors and details. It is not stabilized, but the excellent stabilization of the machine perfectly compensates for this lack. I added the weight among the positive factors, and this for a reason: its weight, absolutely not excessive, is still certain of construction quality, both in the barrel and in the optical groups. I feel sorry for those with delicate hands or shoulders, but handling it offers the clear feeling of being a solid, professional and high-end product. It is the lens I use the most, with its wide-angle range always ready to offer new perspectives and points of view, with results of absolute quality.

tamron_15-30vcTamron 15-30mm f/2.8 VC USD

Pros: Solid construction, sharpness, low distortion, insignificant aberrations, weight, superior optical quality, stabilization

Cons: No screw filters

Opinion: I took this perspective without expecting amazing things, despite the many positive comments. I use it manually on the Lumix S1. What can I say.. a truly incredible goal. The optical quality is very high already at full aperture, it reaches the best from 5.6 onwards. Sharp throughout the frame, very good details and incisiveness, contained distortion and almost absent in the plane, aberrations very well controlled on highlights and backlight .. I thought I didn't have to change my mind, but I did. I am happily amazed by this lens and just in the focal lengths that I love the most .. I recommend it to anyone and I believe that the new version has been improved in terms of AF speed and robustness. I use it manually, with relative calm. On the 24mp sensor of the S1 it is perfect. When needed, it has excellent stabilization. I forgot, among the merits I also put the weight. The optical quality weighs, and it is good, and the feeling of use that returns a glass like this is unique.

panasonic_s24-105_f4oisPanasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS

Pros: Sharpness, soft and progressive bokeh, solid construction, fluid movements, soft bokeh, excellent stabilization in symbiosis with camera

Cons: Nobody.

Opinion: Despite the limitations it can have a zoom over a fixed lens, this is an excellent glass. Carefully designed, solid structure, effective optical scheme with sharpness and incisiveness from edge to edge. Absence of flare even under delicate conditions, it is a lens designed to combine quality and versatility. It's a zoom, it should not be forgotten, but it offers truly solving images, with colors that I find natural and well balanced. Excellent bokeh in the highest focal points. A lens capable of working in perfect symbiosis with the demanding sensor of the S1. Perfect stabilization and, despite being a constant f4, no problem with slow times thanks to the joint work of the IBIS. Tropicalized, but still not tested under limit conditions. It is not a lens of the L Pro series, but it is able to give excellent results, far from the stereotype of the kit lens and handyman. Used to the Canon 24-105 f4 L here we are at a much different level.

panasonic_s1Panasonic S1

Pros: Solid, well-built, excellent image quality (raw-jpg), excellent dynamic yield, absence of noise at high ISO, handling, clear and intuitive menu, photo stabilization 6.5 stop, responsive and accurate autofocus, high technological solutions, EVF viewfinder with top definition and quality, excellent battery life

Cons: Missing V-log video compartment (purchaseable separately)

Opinion: Panasonic enters the MIRRORless FF landscape. The S1 immediately offers an excellent feeling of solidity, with a construction that maintains and exceeds the already high standards of the M4/3 system with the G9 and GH5. I focus on the excellent quality of the new sensor, able to offer detail, dynamic range, absence of noise at high ISO. High responsiveness of the AF system in particular with the help of people/animal recognition functions. Fast and versatile in photo use, not yet tested in video. The spectrum of focus areas, with almost unlimited variations, has been expanded compared to the G9, for example. Knowing Lumix the menu immediately appeared familiar and intuitive, but I'm sure it would also be for those who are looking at this brand for the first time. Very versatile and complete slack sits, both for the main functions and for the others, all completely remodulatible at will and according to personal needs. The solidity of the machine goes well with screen management. No longer fully tipping, but extremely robust and well secured. Some small solutions make life easier during work and shooting, such as illuminated keys, night function, lever (programmable) that locks some keys to avoid involuntary movements, the warning opening slot cards or battery during data recording. Excellent color yield, with natural and balanced tones, excellent AWB, so much so that it almost always makes an edition in post superfluous. The 24-105 zoom lives in symbiosis with the machine, offering a gain on stability of up to 6.5 stops with the Dual IS. With non-Lumix S targets, the IBIS system offers a stabilization of up to 6 stops. Excellent glass quality already at TA, well distributed detail from edge to board, carefully designed optics. Good energy range, achieved 750 shots (with screen use, external flash and double stabilization) with 1/3 battery still available, ability to charge from the electric grid or with power bank while working. Finally weight and size. In my opinion absolutely congruent for an instrument that in front of an excellent FF sensor is designed to mount quality and consistency lenses among those that the Panasonic/Sigma/Leica consortium already offers and will offer more and more. After all, Lumix produces compact and lightweight ML with the M4/3 system, so for the S series the choices were quite other. Weight for me was never a problem, in fact, I always enjoyed "feeling" the machine in my hands. We are not talking about something exaggerated, but just enough to offer a great grip, robustness and balance with serious goals. New firmware for the S1 and S1r have been released with iBIS and Dual IS stabilization improvements, enhancements to the video sector and some AF features. The firmware of the 24-105 and 70-200 targets have also been updated. In the production logic of Panasonic is undeniable the great technological effort presented with the new FF system, certainly perfectable, but already up to compete and often surpass the other brands on the market. This is not a camera for those looking for small and read things. This is a camera for those looking for consistency, professional results and a build quality that guarantees many years of use, included in extreme conditions if necessary.

olympus_mzuiko_75_f1-8Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8

Pros: Solid construction, quality, resolution, sharpness, compactness, brightness

Cons: Absence Lens Hood

Opinion: Extremely compact, solid construction, fully metal and Made in Japan quality. Excellent sharpness and resolve, produces balanced and dense colors, as well as a soft bokeh. Bright Glass, it returns an excellent contrast without chromatic aberrations. lacks stabilization, but with camera bodies like the Lumix G9 it is magnificently replaced. Responsive and fast in AF, I find it very manageable and light, excellent for street, reportage and portrait. Comparable to a 150mm on the FF, I consider it a small jewel capable of enhancing the qualities of the more advanced M4/3 sensors. The lens hood is missing and the original one has an exaggerated cost. But little bad given the opportunity to find alternative, valid and cheap on the internet. Absolutely recommended.

panasonic_g9Panasonic G9

Pros: Sensor without anti-aliasing filter with 5-axis stabilizer, extreme MAF speed and trekking efficiency, 4k and 6k photo sequences, 20 fps speed, solid construction and environmental sealing, responsiveness and versatility of functions and controls, high viewfinder 0.83 x resolution, upper display and articulated LCD display, image quality, pro solutions.

Cons: Decrease the functions of the video compartment compared to GH5 and GH5s. Size, for those looking for a more compact car.

Opinion: I am sure that in designing and realizing this machine the Panasonic technicians have listened to the needs of many photographers and have certainly not wanted to follow the commercial fashions of the moment. It is a machine that since the first contact is perceived as solid, well built and totally ergonomic. It has the biggest grip of its class and is one of the most comfortable of the whole reflex and mirrorless panorama. Obviously there is no perfect machine and each Fotograf @, according to your needs and experiences, look for the model and range that best can respond to work, fun and creativity. Well, coming from Canon, I still own a FF, I can say that this ML is really an excellent camera. The technological equipment of G9 is known and you just have to wander over the Internet to confirm. I remember here the excellent sensor without low pass filter from actual 20MB, the speed of MAF with 225 points fully modulable in shape, size and arrangement (joystick), the possibility of photographic sequences in 4k and 6k (4k with 60fps), shutter speed of 20fps in AFC mode, an incredible high resolution photo function with 40MB and 80MB of output file, 5-axis stabilized sensor that allows complete symbiosis with the stabilised OIS Lumix lenses up to a maximum of 6.5 stop. In short, many other technical and technological solutions that convinced me in the choice and then during the daily use. I use the format M43 and I am completely satisfied with it, considering it absolutely in line with the needs of a professional photographer. This machine is extremely devoted to photography and to the needs of a public that is certainly less interested in the video, but the video solutions are still present with the possibility of shooting in 4k, microphone and headphone connection, dual slot UHS-II card, Rechargeable battery directly in the car also from a power bank, etc. I was really impressed by the very high resolution feature that adopts sensor-shift technology to move the sensor in various directions and add the different densities into a single image for a truly remarkable increase in definition. A very good solution for images of architecture and Panorama. Very useful the high quality and brightness of the LVF Oled viewfinder with a magnification up to 0.83 X for an accurate focus both automatically and in manual and frequency at 120fps. Also appreciated the night mode for not stressing the view in low light conditions and the wide eyepiece for those who use glasses and anyway to facilitate the vision. To those who consider the format M43 immature or inadequate for professional photographic use I can only say that in the facts I feel to deny this statement, now seen the high technological and constructive quality of this standard, the excellent quality and Definition of images already in JPEG, the possibility of using very bright lenses and recognized optical properties, such as the Panasonic Leica series and the Olympus professional optics. As soon as possible I will join G9 with another pair of Leica lenses. Recently an upgrade of G9 firmware has been released (1.2) with further improvements to the speed of MAF and, among other things, a new creative filter in BN dynamic very appealing, even if I use these filters and digital effects very rarely. Even this continuity by Panasonic in constantly updating its products, especially high-end, is definitely an added value of Panasonic home.

canon_80dCanon 80D

Pros: Lightness, simplicity of use, Canon Optics Park, folding screen and touch. Connection microphone and headphones audio, WiFi.

Cons: Low quality construction, sensor with obvious limits, excessive use of plastic, price not related to the quality offered, no 4k video, low reactive, slow data transfer.

Opinion: I used for a year and a half this car, bought maybe without too much documentation. Having already a Canon FF it seemed like a good choice, but I regretted it. In everyday use it has shown all its limitations, in particular the quality of the sensor and the general quality of the materials. Too much plastic. A machine for amateur use, no more, with limited functions in both photos and videos. The only thing I enjoyed during some shooting is the screen completely touch and tipfold, also useful in vertical, and the presence of the headphone connection audio and microphone. Useful files up to 800 ISO, then the Canon APSC sensor yields too much. MAF greatly improved compared to other Canon mid-range, as well as a good shutter speed. Maybe useful as a second body or exclusively for video. Sold.

panasonic_leica15Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH

Pros: Sharpness, brightness, build quality, excellent AF, lightness, total automatism with Panasonic machines

Cons: Some slight aberration in particular light conditions, but nothing unmanageable. Ineffective aperture ring with Olympus machine bodies.

Opinion: I own and use this lens on my Lumix G9 and GX8. The quality of the sensor is maximally elevated by the sharpness of this ' glass '. Exceptional chromatic response, precise aperture ring and with automatism, AF excludable and precise, build quality in the best Leica tradition and produced in Japan. I have other lenses, Canon and Panasonic, also professional, but the Panasonic 15mm 1.7 Leica DG Summilux is by far what I prefer. The lightness but at the same time the robustness of the lens are perfectly matched in particular with the GX8. In the hands the whole thing seems ' light ' but instead you have a precious and precise photographic tool. Appropriate for street, reportage and portrait. Equivalent in FF to a 30mm, it offers a very natural angle of field and close shooting with minimum distance of MAF of 20 cm. Excellent sharpness at TA, it reaches its maximum already on values between f 2.8 and F4. Able to give always and however images of high quality, density and detail, is obviously a bright lens that ' sees in the dark '. Particularly recommended for the Lumix system.

canon_efs24stmCanon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM

Pros: Bright, compact, solid, good AF, economical

Cons: No Prof

Opinion: I do not add much to the already excellent reviews that has the lens between these pages. Comfortable lens, light weight, with good sharpness not to TA, quite fast and bright. Segnalo where to find an excellent lens hood not original but in metal that pairs perfectly: https://www.amazon.it/dp/B0149HD6IM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_S0bBBb72725B4

panasonic_gx8Panasonic GX8

Pros: Solid, tropicalized, stabilized sensor, wide choice of features, 4k photo and video quality, handy, versatile, broad range lenses System Micro 4/3 Panasonic and Olympus

Cons: Weight and size, for those looking for something more compact.

Opinion: I bought this car profiting from a great offer. I appreciate the solid consistency and the high construction standards. Big enough to be maneuverable between my hands (large) and small enough not to weigh. The menu is very intuitive and logical and coming from Canon I have not found more drawbacks. I appreciate the amount of programmable functions and easy access via 8 function keys scattered everywhere. Incredible to speed up work and shoot with action readiness. Exposure compensation selector Easy to reach, quick Area selector/MAF point size, dedicated video button can be deactivated, classic display programs plus three personal configurations, Oled and touch screen completely Tilting and orientable which can be closed and protected, connection for external microphone, solid body and resistant to splashes and dust, fast MAF with various configurations, sensor stabilizer on 4 axles in symbiosis with Panasonic OIS lenses, Possibility to process RAW images directly in the car. The M4/3 20MB sensor does a great job and the photo/video quality is very high, usable artistic filters (personally I use them very little except the B/w), 4k video, 4k photo sequence and really brilliant Post Focus function. Combined with the Leica Summilux 15/1.7, the images produced are excellent, with intense colours, detail and depth. The articulated EVF viewfinder is very convenient and detailed, also Oled quality, which allows you to manage image and functions without distractions. Perfect WiFi connection, with predisposed telephones you can connect directly to your mobile phone via NFC. In short, I am very satisfied, I think is an ideal machine for travel, reportage and street, still offered at an excellent price. Purchased in the black version passes easily unnoticed and allows discretion when necessary. I was undecided between the GX8 and the new GX9. This last seems to ape the fashion of the most compact machines, with small size and built-in flash (which I just do not appreciate), but I think it loses too much and gains very little compared to GX8. In this regard I leave this interesting comparison between the two models, remembering that unlike the GX9, the GX8 still maintains high its value, both new and used, index of a quality still very demanded among photographers who seek substance, quality of Results and robustness of use. fujifilm_x-e3Fujifilm X-E3

Pros: X-trans III sensor, touch screen (which I personally have disabled), fast and reliable focus, JPEG image quality

Cons: Battery autonomy, small body, fixed screen, non-stabilized, non-tropicalized, minimum visor.

Opinion: I had this car for a few weeks but it did not respond well to all my expectations. I liked the system of setting the automatisms and some technical solutions, but I was disappointed the consistency of the machine, certainly light but with a lot of plastic. Even the fixed screen did not convince me and I must say that the touch functions were immediately deactivated. Made in China, which would not be a problem, in particular I felt too much "lightness" between my hands despite the value of the ML format. However, I used the machine for what it offers, that is the quality of the X-Trans III sensor, the modulations that mimic the Fuji film styles (in particular Velvia and across), the AF speed, but I do not consider it a machine for ' intense ' use.
