sony_a7s_iiSony A7s II

Pros: Construction, handling, iso, file, dynamic range, stabilized.

Cons: "only" 12 Mpx, sometimes uncertain autofocus, complex menu

Opinion: Sony's S-series is a guarantee when there is no light. Crazy dynamic range and iso. Uncompressed raw files of excellent workmanship. Camera designed for video but also excellent for photographs. 12 Mpx still allow you to print an A3 with good quality, used for years for all kinds of photographic projects. Despite being a machine with its age, if found at a good price it is absolutely worth the expense. Undisputed queen of the night. Vote 9

sigma_28-45_f1-8Sigma 28-45mm f/1.8 DG DN Art

Pros: Image quality, f1.8 aperture, focal range, customizable keys.

Cons: Lens size and huge lens hood.

Opinion: Exceptional lens, although I had seen many photos on the net, I still imagined it bigger. On Sigma FP you can feel the size and weight that all in all is well distributed. We have internal zoom and new focus motor (which works much better on FP, almost a miracle). From the first images I immediately notice a crazy sharpness at full aperture and throughout the frame. It is a very expensive lens with a focal range that may seem limited but if we place a 28mm + 35mm + 45mm of any brand, we get the same size and weight as the Sigma 28-45mm and used in crop mode (42-67mm) we gain other useful millimeters. Ideal for events, ceremonies, street and landscape. Coupled with a wide-angle lens, it still allows you to go out with a fairly small backpack and to have the right and quality focal range on your shoulder for 90% of "photographable" situations. Voito 9 and a half deserved.

venus_laowa_argus28_f1-2Venus Laowa Argus 28mm f/1.2 FF

Pros: Sharp, bright, small size, construction and price.

Cons: No shutter data.

Opinion: Beautiful lens, great construction, sharp and very bright. If you close the aperture a little you get the maximum resolution over the entire frame. 28mm is a very particular focal length, with the crop I use it at 40mm for portraits. Venus Laowa now a guarantee, I often go out with the 11mm f4.5 and 28mm f1.2 combination, on Sigma FP, with a tiny backpack. Vote 9

sigma_50_f2dnSigma 50mm f/2 DG DN C

Pros: Very high file size, construction, quality.

Cons: Maybe just the cost.

Opinion: After a very bad experience with the 28-70mm, with blurry images in broad daylight, front and back focus, I was forced to retrace my steps and buy a fixed I series. After the fantastic 65mm F2 (sold, alas, to buy the aforementioned zoom) I found the classic 50mm F2 at a price that I think was a bit too high. From the first tests it looks identical to the 65mm, so high quality files, cinematic progressive blur and good sharpness across the entire frame. Compared to the 65mm, the wider field of view is better suited to my photographic needs, so I'm happy with the purchase and give this lens a nice 9.

sigma_28-70_f2-8dnSigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN C

Pros: File quality, focal range, weight, size.

Cons: Still high cost, absence of the aperture ring, absence of stabilization, in my case big front focus problems.

Opinion: Handy lens, low barrel extension, good construction and low weight. As for the 16-28mm it lacks the aperture ring, very convenient if you work with Sigma FP. Unfortunately the cost is still very high but being practically the only lens with this focal range (excluding the art 24-70 version, L-Mount version) there is little to do... Bought for work needs at the expense of the 65mm f2 that I sold (reluctantly). The file is good, not at the level of the fixed. Rated 8. - - - - - Correction: After using it at a conference, I wrote the review that you can read above. Then used for an important job (sure of the previous performance) I found myself with blurred photographs in broad daylight, with times so high as to make blurry or even blurry impossible... It would seem to be back and front focus... Now I regret the 65mm. Rated 4

sigma_dn65_f2cSigma 65mm f/2 DG DN C

Pros: Image quality, construction, diameter same as other I-series lenses, all metal.

Cons: Expensive, compact but heavy, particular focal length.

Opinion: Released before the 50mm f2, this very particular lens (65mm is a strange cut), I often use it for portrait and even more so with the crop of the sensor to get almost 100mm. Like the other optics in the series, the image quality is insane, beautiful blur, cinematic bokeh, faithful colors, impeccable metal construction, magnetic cap. In short, a top lens. Together with the 20mm it is the lens I use the most. It costs money but it's absolutely worth the expense. Rated 9 and 1/2.

sigma_dn35_f2cSigma 35mm f/2 DG DN C

Pros: All metal, file quality, size, bokeh.

Cons: Now that the price has come down, nothing.

Opinion: On Sigma FP it's not my ideal lens, it's still an amazing optics, excellent quality across the entire frame, cinematic and progressive blur. Sold to buy the 20mm f2 (already widely recommended on other reviews) which I use with the crop of the sensor at 30mm. For lovers of the category it remains a must have. Rated 9.

sigma_dn24_f3-5cSigma 24mm f/3.5 DG DN C

Pros: Tiny, construction, very high image quality.

Cons: Price, maximum aperture.

Opinion: This 24mm is part of the "travel" series (along with the 17mm, 45mm and 90mm) of Sigma Contemporary. Used as the only lens for a reportage on the Irpinia transhumance, once I downloaded the photos, I was very impressed by the quality of the images. The f3.5 aperture is both a "con" (just to make a flea, the lens is really good), and a pro, as it returns a truly remarkable image quality. Sold to buy the legendary Sigma 20mm f2 (Top lens in my opinion), it remains a very interesting alternative if taken at the right price and if you need a small and light lens (it is also excellent on the gimbal for videos). Rated 9.

venus_laowa_11mm_f4-5ffVenus Laowa 11mm f/4.5 FF RL

Pros: Small, light, wide view, very precise infinity focus, thread diameter, almost no distortion.

Cons: Not the best quality, vignette, cap with velvet inside that comes off, high price.

Opinion: In the wide-angle Venus Laowa galaxy, this lens, despite some flaws, certainly carves out its own space. The compact size, the immense viewing angle and all in all also the maximum aperture, are its plus sides. The image quality, in my opinion, is not as bad as it reads, it is always an "intermediate" lens between those proposed by Venus. Today, however, with the software you can fix everything and the work I have done with this 11mm has been appreciated, so I would recommend this lens if found at an advantageous price, it is a fun lens, I would be curious to try the 9mm f5.6. Rated 8 and 1/2.

sigma_20_f2dnSigma 20mm f/2 DG DN C

Pros: Quality, compactness, aperture ring, brightness

Cons: Nothing to report

Opinion: Very successful optics, like the rest of the series I. I often shoot close subjects at full aperture for macro set with pleasant bokeh. I also use it at 30mm with the sensor crop. Together with the 65mm that has the same filter diameter, they are my ideal pairing. Distortions and vignette are automatically arranged on the jpeg shot, for the dng there is the profile on all post-production programs, although I do not mind its vignetting. It is absolutely worth the expense, it is a versatile and bright lens. Vote 9

sigma_16-28_f2-8dnSigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN C

Pros: Lightweight, very sharp, excellent resolution, 72mm filter thread, colors.

Cons: Diaphragm ring, missing a case, a function key would have been well appreciated, cost.

Opinion: Used on Sigma FP, the lens is a contemporary classic with small size and no barrel extension when zooming. The yield is excellent, as well as the colors, distortion and vignette are present as in all wide-angle zoom lenses, but they are still manageable in post. An essential lens for those who love landscape and architecture but also the portrait set at 28mm. The bokeh I don't mind at all and 25cm of minimum focusing distance, make it useful even for creative shots. The "negative" note, only for FP OR SONY A7C users is the lack of the aperture ring. It would be possible to assign the iris management function to the focus ring when using the autofocus??? Other brands allow it... Daje Sigma!

sigma_fpSigma FP

Pros: Small, robust, file quality, iso, modularity.

Cons: Lack of viewfinder, ergonomics, stabilization.

Opinion: As an old foveon lover, in my first tests, I would say that Sigma tried (succeeding) to create a machine diametrically opposed to the SD4 (iso, size, sensor) but also very similar in color science and functionality. As for the SD4 the autofocus is not a lightning bolt of war, much higher, but clearly inferior to current machines of the same level / cost. All in all it is still a super upgrade in every detail. I really like the "film dough" that returns in the photo. As for the video sector, Cine DNG at maximum resolution, uncompressed, provides a workflow with equipment that can manage the amount of data that the machine churns out. Iso 6 (computational photography) very interesting, similar to Sony's "smooth reflection", also nice cinematograph to create animated gifs. With the Viewfinder VF-11 (director mode) it is an experience really to try, it seems to focus on the images on the screen of a cinema. Electronic stabilization, only in video (no dng) and only in full hd... not a lot 'as well as the continuous fire, practically unusable on video. The thing that most torments me is the impossibility of setting the white balance on a customizable key, you must always go through the menu (or quick menu). Cross and delight, but it is a completely new and different concept, at this price you will not find anything with similar characteristics and, I conclude, keeping in mind the quality of the final image, my vote is 9.

sony_24-240ossSony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS

Pros: Stabilizer, focal range, size.

Cons: Cost, image quality, brightness.

Opinion: One of the few full frame super zoom for sony. High cost for a rather low image quality, it still remains a "lifesaver" on occasions when you can not get close. On the other hand (in positive) the stabilizer and the focus also work well, except for a few moments of total uncertainty, even during the day. However, I consider it an excellent lens overall, rating 8.

venus_laowa_10-18feVenus Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6

Pros: Internal ND, all metal, focal range.

Cons: Sharpness at the edges (also normal for these extreme focal lengths), flares and artifacts.

Opinion: Very particular lens, perhaps the least successful by Laowa with regard to sharpness and distortion. So wide as to risk losing the prominence to the subject of the photo. Very funny, the images are really impressive, something that the human eye is not used to seeing. I would be curious to try the Laowa 9mm zero-d. Rating 7 also given the rather high cost.

samyang_af18_f2-8feSamyang AF 18mm f/2.8 FE

Pros: Small, light, open, incisive.

Cons: I would say nothing, If it had been a 16mm rating 100!

Opinion: Small and light, bright and with a pleasant bokeh, discreet proximity of focus. Low cost and therefore every complaint leaves the time it finds. Excellent mini lens to have in the kit. Sharp in the center with small decay on the edges, but nothing so serious. Very little distortion, imperceptible. Good autofocus (on A7s which is not lightning). Rating 9

tamron_20_f2-8iiiTamron 20mm f/2.8 Di III OSD M1:2

Pros: Cost, size, macro, diameter 67 like all Tamron lenses for Sony system, fast and precise focus.

Cons: Distortion, firmware update with station to buy aside.

Opinion: Despite the crazy distortion that corrects itself very well in the post, I would say that it is a great lens at a low price. Compared to the Samyang 18mm (which I still enjoyed for its compactness and image quality) this lens has the great advantage of being almost a macro with a focus so close that it sometimes bumps into the subject. As a surrender, superior to the Samyang without a shadow of a doubt. A particular lens that I would recommend to those who love the landscape and the macro "wide angles".

sigma_sd_quattroSigma SD Quattro

Pros: Incredible image quality, cost, tropicalized, white balance, gorgeous black and white.

Cons: It can only be used in perfect lighting, heavy, optics and hard-to-find equipment, very slow proprietary RAW retouching software, heavy DNG files (32 gb of memory are approximately 290 clicks), battery life does not excellent.

Opinion: It is a real "film machine" in digital version. Unusable already at 400 ISO. At 100 Iso both the Raw and the Dng and the Jpeg are fabulous, never taken such defined photos that need a minimum (but really a minimum) of post-production. Used to a rather pushed use of Lightroom, I find myself genuinely in trouble (in a positive sense). If you love "slow and reasoned" photography this SD Quattro will love you! Not being comparable to any other mirrorless my rating is absolutely 9.

sigma_30_f1-4_v2Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC Art

Pros: Handy, bright, perfect for aps-c.

Cons: Sincerely considering the price of the used, I do not see any.

Opinion: Excellent overall performance, the focus is discreetly precise and fast, no front/back focus. I use it with satisfaction on Sigma SD4 and with adapter on Sony A7. Despite being an Aps-c lens, it covers the Aps-h format and, on full frame, returns a super dramatic look to the subjects framed. It's the smallest lens for the SD four for that I like and I vote with a 9.
