![]() | Panasonic Leica DG 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 ASPH OIS Pros: Constructive quality, versatility, ergonomics, tropicalization, the focus distance does not change with the focus, so great for video, good sharpness, always very fast focus. Cons: f/2.8 only at 12mm, good sharpness but not excellent Opinion: I used two copies and they're pretty much identical in all. Obviously it's a limited sample, but it's reassuring to have quality control confirmations, which is supposed to be particularly accurate for a premium lens like this. I was surprised by the build quality: I have never had a lens of such a invoice. Solid, geometric tolerances are very small, like a caliber of precision, yet the drive of the zoom and focus ghieres is fluid and well-muffled, perfect for video. It does not suffer from barrel extension when oriented downwards and is very versatile. It is ideal as a travel goal. However, it tends to be darker than you expect: as soon as you turn the zoom dial, you see the aperture go from f/2.8 to f/4.0 very quickly. The sharpness is good without being exceptional, which you only notice in photos, not videos. Great contrast anyway. It is the only lens with which, in particular situations, I felt to hazard a change of focal length during video shooting: the dial is fluid, the focus distance does not change. I honestly can't feel the "Leica" character, it just seems like a good lens to me. Ultimately it is excellent for travel and video, good for everything else, phenomenal for the satisfaction it gives to the touch. sent on October 27, 2018 |
![]() | Panasonic GX80 / GX85 Pros: compactness, image quality, stabilization, Ease of use, high quality footage Cons: The usual M43 sensors: dynamic range not at the top, some noise at high ISO Opinion: I had a great time! It is compact but solid, it has a very good build Quality. It is very instant in use, something that makes a difference for non-professionals, especially in critical situations: ease of use makes it harder to miss a Shot. The definition is excellent and personally I have never come across Moirè Phenomena. Movies in 4k excellent by Definition. The touchpad to move the focus point is ideal for this type of camera, where the viewfinder is all moved to the left: I find it comfortable and much easier to use than the equivalent Olympus. The viewfinder is small compared to other mirrorless cameras, but honestly I have not found it bad and I never noticed phenomena of color tearing. As for the colors in jpeg, generally not bad, Canon satisfies me more, but I happened to compare it with Olympus em-1 Mark II in interiors with artificial light and has nailed much better than the white balance. It also doesn't turn green like Olympus, which I personally think is Positive. The stabilization is amazing, especially in the videos, I think this is currently the strongest point of M43 cameras. sent on October 08, 2018 |
![]() | Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Pros: Sharpness, constant aperture f / 2.8, hood and enclosure supplied Cons: Hanging hood, not particularly fast focusing Opinion: Used on Canon 550d and 7d, my model had a sharpness in the extraordinary center. Returns warmer shades than the Canon lenses I used. The focus is fair, but not very fast: the Canon 15-85 was much faster. Excellent quality / price ratio. My lens hood was not very firm in engagement. The equipment with soft bag is a plus not just, considering the already low price. sent on January 10, 2018 |
![]() | Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Pros: Focal ranges, autofocus, construction, stabilization Cons: Weight. Sharpness good, not excellent Opinion: I used it on 550d and 7d. My specimen had good sharpness, but nothing exceptional. On the other hand I liked the build quality, with particular reference to the smoothness of the zoom ring, but especially the speed of autofocus. Excellent stabilization, which I also used effectively for some videos. The focal range is what I need for travel, in particular on Canon I have evaluated very positively the 15mm compared to 18 of the standard superzoom. For a while I had the opportunity to use this lens and a Sigma 18-200 Contemporary at the same time. The Canon is significantly heavier, of another category for fast focusing, but my two samples were not very different for clarity. Surely they were both better, and much, compared to the Canon 18-200, which I also used in the past, especially in the area tele. It seemed to me that the Sigma was a bit warmer, but I never made a scientific comparison. sent on January 10, 2018 |
