![]() | Sigma 500mm f/5.6 DG DN OS Sport Pros: Lightness, sharpness Cons: Plasticky, looks like a toy Opinion: It is an ideal lens for those who want quality (obviously not at the levels of its big brother 300/600 remaining in sigma) and portability; hand luggage on the plane, backpack in the mountains... As far as I could see used with Leica SL3, the rendering on the subject offers a very interesting sharpness, perhaps too much!! I tried it against the light and it behaves well, certainly not at the levels of my favorite lens, the 90/280. I put a vote of 8! sent on July 31, 2025 |
![]() | Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS S Pros: Versatility Cons: Taking everything into account, it has no defects Opinion: I state that it is a medium-high quality lens ideal for all those who love to walk given weights and sizes. The focal length from 150 to 600 is useful in some cases and very useful if it is stored in a backpack given its small size. The quality of the file is definitely good. I use it with Leica SL3 and I noticed that if you shoot with a sensor at 36 it performs better than at 60; I didn't try it at 18. Usable without significant loss with 1.4x. Ultimately, given the not excessive costs, it is a perspective to buy and keep. sent on June 24, 2025 |
![]() | Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm f/2.8-4 ASPH Pros: Versatility and quality Cons: weight Opinion: What can I say... It is an excellent optic with an extraordinary performance. Combined with the SL3 it produces files that, if printed, make superlative images. Someone complains about the change of aperture 2.8 to 4 but I don't complain because in my opinion it is there and if we then reason like Leica that guarantees sharpness and contrast already at maximum aperture it is evident that the change of aperture is to be able to have perfection. Other lenses sold with 2.8 brightness but which reach perfection at 4 or 5.6... 4 or 5.6 directly!!! Weight and dimensions with lens hood are felt after a while but you get used to it knowing what results you get. I also have the 90/280 which is qualitatively excellent and that combined with the 24/90 offers you a complete set in two lenses to be able to do almost everything. Everyone complains about the prices but... Try to think that these lenses can last for years, covering a range from 24 to 280, you take them by making an effort once and for years you are quiet so much better you can't find!! sent on June 24, 2025 |
![]() | Leica APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280mm f/2.8-4 Pros: Overall excellent performance Cons: Weight Opinion: It is a perspective on which there is little to say except that together with the SL3 it renders files that printed give a unique satisfaction. Colors, contrast, sharpness, etc. everything at its best. The only flaw is the weight but it is obvious that the glass weighs heavily. Let's say that given the results the weight is forgotten. The focal length from 90 reaches 280 is very interesting because it covers a range that is used in most cases. If associated with the 24/90 the circle closes and with two lenses you do everything. sent on June 18, 2025 |
![]() | Leica SL3 Pros: A camera Cons: Cost of accessories such as batteries, battery chargers, BG... madness in the sense that 300€ for a two-seater battery charger is.... it is.... madness. Useless if not used with Leica lenses. Opinion: I bought it about 6 months ago so I think I can offer a real review. The sl3 is certainly well built and well "thought out" for those who like to take photographs using the functions of a normal camera!! A few keys without acronyms, names... and all customizable. Functions limited to what is really needed. Initially tried with sigma lenses everything was fine but when, pushed by I don't know what, I decided to take the 24/90 and the 90/280 everything changed. Let's be clear: if you shoot and publish you can also use lenses taken from landfills but if you print, the SL3 with Leica lenses and maybe APO ... There is little to say, an extra gear compared to other combinations we have had and tried in the past. R5, Z8 etc. Logical that if someone says it is expensive you certainly cannot dispute it but the "expensive" turns into "very expensive" if you want to get excellent results since in my opinion it must be combined with Leica glass. I leave the 60, 36 and 18 sensor punches to the data maniacs as well as high iso etc. The SL3 makes great files. And woe betide you if you pass them on the right or others because everything is destroyed!! With the SL3 I returned the enthusiasm for photography and some characteristics of the autofocus certainly not the best or the BG without a button to exclude it... but who cares!!! Ah, here's a flaw: it consumes energy like an airliner, so apart from the cost, you have to have several batteries with you. sent on June 18, 2025 |
![]() | OM System OM-1 Pros: Solidity, lightness and dimensions even with bg, pro capture with non-jpeg raw files like the other top of the range, price. Cons: High ISO sealing, so-so tracking Opinion: Necessary premise: I am absolutely convinced that there is no perfect camera or a perfect lens in the world but that there are different combinations that turn out to be perfect in different situations and OM1 combined with a pro series lens falls into these cases. If you know that the high ISO performance in low light is rather dismal and you know that the depth of field with the m 4/3 system is what it is, adjust accordingly. That said, OM1 remains my first choice (I own Z8) in wildlife photography for the very simple fact that it sizes, lightness, pro capture that makes raw files (The Z8, Jpeg), stabilization and color rendition, etc.. they allow "that AGILITY" and those results that other systems, perhaps more emblazoned, perhaps more fashionable, etc.. Due to their size and weight, they limit the work to be done, making the result more difficult to achieve. OM1-BG-mc20-40/150 2.8 (FF 160-600 5.6) weighs 2160 gr and has a total length of 30 cm. You carry it around all day and you could say absurdly that you put it in your pocket when you're done. My basic settings are to lock the iso limit to 800 and shoot at custom white balance aperture priority. When shooting raw, the photo mode is of little use, but it's basically natural. In post I clean with dxo and then finish in photoshop. I don't bother with the m 4/3 system as others do because I'm not interested in analyzing the details or all those aspects that in the end are completely irrelevant and that only serve to cheer for one or the other, so I just say that if you are aware of what you have in your hand and you know it well, you bring home the results. ![]() | Olympus M.Zuiko ED 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro Pros: Size, Sharpness, Manual Focus Ring Cons: I don't know Opinion: A few months ago in the micro 4/3 world I bought this lens coupled with an OM1. The mere fact that it's an 80 300 2.8 certainly makes it exceptionally versatile considering the weight makes it nothing short of fantastic. (I have a Z8 a 300 2.8.. heavy material I have!!) Here you get to the end of the day and you can work freehand without feeling tired, etc. A few days ago I coupled the lens to a mc 20 (2x) multiplier. Incredible to note that it loses very little in sharpness; I'd say it's better with the 2x than with the 1.4x. Excellent color rendering if used with the OM1 (with other models I don't know). No problem in the rain and snow. After 30 years of photography, optics, etc., I have to say that currently this gem is the best lens I have ever had, also considering the really low cost. sent on December 20, 2023 |
