![]() | Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II Pros: Virtually perfect optics in every respect Cons: The AF seems to work much less well on the A7iii than on the A7riv, it doesn't have much character. Opinion: I have owned it for 6 months now. Perfect optics, I come from a Tamron 17-28 and I don't regret the gearbox, even if it is definitely heavier and bulkier. Optically almost perfect, it is very correct, from this point of view perhaps it does not have the same "character" as other GMs but if you are looking for the personal touch you don't go for this type of optics, so that's okay. I noticed that, compared to the 24-70 and 70-200 that I both have GMii, the AF reacts less well on my A7iii than on the A7r4, I hope that a firmware update will make it more prone to older bodies. It doesn't drive me crazy that the zoom is external and it doesn't make me crazy that it lengthens as the focal length is shortened, because it makes it less instinctive. For those who also make videos I recommend a powerful stabilizer or when calibrated you end up going crazy (I use Ronin S2 and I'm in trouble). For the rest, it is really worth the money it costs. sent on September 23, 2024 |
![]() | Zenit Helios 40-2 85mm f/1.5 New Pros: Blurred, poetic rendering, swirl bokeh Cons: Soft on the sides, very heavy, overcharged Opinion: Optic overvalues, it is sold for over € 400 but it is not worth them, it makes no sense: soft, especially at the edges. Heavy, it makes it very difficult to balance it on ML bodies and makes it harder to focus. It's a portrait lens, but if the subject's face is at the edge it's not easy even with viewfinder zoom if you're in focus. The colors, the blur and the swirl effect are beautiful but I prefer the 44-4 kitchen: colors and swirl are even better, much more manageable, it costs a tenth. sent on March 06, 2023 |
![]() | Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS II Pros: AF, image quality (including color), lightweight and well-built, versatile Cons: I haven't found any Opinion: A perfect lens (or almost) that is worth everything it costs, a true example of an upgrade that includes all the latest Sony technologies that contribute to making it (finally, I had the old and it was heavy) a magnificent optics. If you can afford it and think you will use it often, do not hesitate. I went from the old that was very good to this and I regret absolutely nothing. As far as I know it is the best 70-200 on the square sent on March 02, 2023 |
![]() | Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II Pros: Overall sharpness, build quality, physical functions, bokeh colors, excellent flare resistance Cons: A bit of edges Opinion: Perfect optics from all points of view, ideal for professional use with an absolutely scary auto focus.practically I did not find a defect if not the physiological drop at the most extreme edges. Not having it is a real right. Recommended for those looking for quality at all costs because like all GMs it is not given. sent on January 14, 2023 |
![]() | Zenit Helios MC 44M-4 58mm f/2.0 Pros: swirly bokeh, flare all to be exploited, solid, beautiful colors, excellent rings Cons: heavy, not very sharp in TA Opinion: Optics that are worth every penny, I found it new, paid more than it should but perfect. The flares, if properly exploited, are really an amazing touch: I deliberately do not mount the hood. I would never detach it, it's a craze. The only real drawback, for me, is the weight, but solidity has its reverses. Be careful because the swirly effect is obtained at a given distance between the subject, background and shooting point. sent on February 14, 2022 |
![]() | Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Pros: Sharpness (see notes), construction, AF to MF switch and vice versa Cons: drop in yield to very closed diaphragms, which is not indifferent on a maco Opinion: Surely a lens with enormous advantages that, however: - must be able to manage in post because to say that it is engraved is little, it has an exaggerated micro-contrast that may not please especially those who make classic portraits. On the other hand, I made the best views ever, it's even better than the 70-200 GM.... up to f13 - I often found myself wanting / having to shoot at f16 and here the rogne begin because the colors go out and the sharpness drops, although in a lesser way than it comes to think from many reviews. However, for a macro, it means a lot. sent on July 23, 2021 |

![]() | Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Pros: almost perfect construction, very sharp species when used in sweet spot, LIGHTNING AF, amazing general rendering Cons: Flare, weight, cost Opinion: My absolute favorite glass. I don't regret buying at all, if I listened to the urge I'd sleep there. I could sing the praises until the end of time. But it is not a defect-free lens: soft pushed to 200, the lampshed has the filter door that opens every two by three. Not indifferent weight, unbalances ML bodies like our Sony. And then, stick flare. I like to exploit them in backlight portraits, but such a dear optics shouldn't suffer like this. But I repeat: character to sell, if one can afford it is amazing, his for everything including the views. sent on July 06, 2021 |
![]() | Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Pros: versatile lens, very sharp in general, absolutely valid colors and yield, AF valid Cons: soft if taken to the extreme, then in TA and at 105mm. Good construction but not very good Opinion: he is my handyman, an indispensable focal point and who, in many cases, saves you from critical situations. For the kind of optics that is the fact that it's F4 it's not a big limit until the evening but if coupled to a camera that holds well it's a sword goes. It doesn't cost cheap but it gives what it asks. Soft in TA, soft above 95mm, but at the bottom it is a zoom. It doesn't weigh much but with a focal point like that it's there. The autofocus button or the oss button (now I don't remember well) have softened me but I use it in the field ... a focal point that I would buy back without hesitation. sent on July 06, 2021 |

![]() | Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 Pros: lightweight, not too expensive, precise autofocus Cons: Certainly not a very sharp optics, made general questionable (I don't like it), distorts more than I expected Opinion: As a portrait painter I can't help but own a 35mm, but I'm sorry because I took it after possessing for several months its 85mm big brother and, in all honesty, there really is an abyss between the two optics... this has no sharpness other than very closed diaphragms (but then I do not need it) and distorts too much, the subjects can only be resumed from afar. I don't like it, if I could do without it I would make it. sent on July 06, 2021 |
![]() | Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Pros: sharpness, AF response even in low light, lightness, size Cons: Colors... overall has little character, it's very correct Opinion: Incredible optics... worth every penny. It won't have the colors and blurry of the GM but it's sharper, already at fabulous TA, it recovers everything already at 2.8. I have never had problems with flares in the backlights, contained distortion, extraordinary lens from every point of view also for its handling ... Of course, dying for the desire to own a stabilized one but it is another matter. Only flaw: it has no character and the blurry is ok. A purchase recommended for anyone who appreciates this magnificent focal point. sent on July 06, 2021 |
