canon_rf24-105_f4usmCanon RF 24-105 mm f/4 L IS USM

Pros: The real Jack of All Trades, fast and accurate autofocus, stabilization

Cons: To do almost everything we have to compromise, even if it turned out to be solid, the materials give a sense of plasticity

Opinion: A good lens that has its strength in versatility. It can be used in almost any area and the quality it returns is more than abundant for most uses. Also excellent in video thanks to the stabilization that combined with that of the camera bodies reaches 8 stops (and I can assure you that you can feel them quite a bit) and the autofocus which is extremely fast and precise. Obviously we are talking about a relatively dark lens, and if the f/4 diaphragm guarantees a good depth of field on all focal lengths at the same time it lets little light through, and this is particularly felt in closed environments such as theaters and arenas. The sharpness is good, not excellent and obviously like all zoom lenses you have the greatest yield in the middle focal lengths. At 24mm it distorts slightly and has a minimum of vignetting, while at 105mm you can have good bokeh but with a small loss of sharpness. On a construction level, after a year and a half of fairly intense use I can guarantee that it is very solid, but the feeling is still plastic, and when it is off you can hear a lot of the rattling of the stabilizer inside. The flaws overall are the classic kit lens compromises, which in general are known and secondary when buying a similar lens. Lens that I recommend overall to those looking for versatility and ease of use, or as the first lens for full frame R series bodies.

canon_eos_r6iiCanon EOS R6 Mark II

Pros: 24 megapizzas, AUTOFOCUS, Canon Color Science, dynamic range, video shooting, operational reliability

Cons: ISO over 25600 begin to be unusable (joking), sometimes when used very intensively tends to slow down a minimum, used at maximum performance is quite energivora

Opinion: The R6 Mark II is definitely a jack of all trades in terms of operability. You can really use it for any genre, both in videos and photos, bringing home excellent results. The 24-megapixel sensor has improved not a little compared to the first version, not only with 4 million more pixels, but also in dynamic range, noise resistance and above all in readout time. The rolling shutter is greatly reduced, obviously not entirely, but it has very good performance for a non-stacked sensor. The autofocus tracking is something monstrous, practically instantaneous, once it hooks a subject does not let go, so far I have not yet managed to put it seriously in difficulty. The subject recognition is really good, I did not have the opportunity to try the vehicle mode but the animal one recognized me and hooked me without problems dogs, cats and birds even from very high distances. I must say that it is so fast that accustomed to the SLR that I had previously initially had to get used to it, but once you understand the actual speed it is difficult to miss a shot, even with very little light. The files are very beautiful, 24 megapixels are the optimal number not to overload the PC during editing while maintaining a good resolution. Color Science Canon really beautiful, perfect complexions and in any case extremely workable as a file, especially if the shot is made at low ISO. At high ISO the situation is still very good, with optimal files up to 12800ISO and if the scene is well lit usable even at higher values. Video side I did not have the opportunity to try it thoroughly, having used it a few times in this area, but the files it generates I found them very beautiful, and overall I can say that it is an excellent camera, because it manages to bring the image quality of the photos in the video and has some specific functions that in certain conditions are very useful, and I missed it on my previous camera. Also worth mentioning is the stabilized sensor, which can sometimes save the shot, and the electronic viewfinder that apart from some hesitation did not make me regret the optical one, both for performance and for yield. The bursts are also great, precise autofocus tracking, but 40 fps is really too much sometimes. Ergonomics, key layout and menus typical of Canon are maintained, and the room itself is quite customizable. The switch between photos and videos, moved to the left and criticized by many, actually provides the ability to customize the camera even more, taking advantage of the C1, C2 and C3 positions of the mode dial. Objectively speaking, I have not found any negative sides. The camera used at 100% is really energy-intensive, sometimes I can do yes and no 600 shots with a battery, while other times I get on 800/900. The electronic viewfinder, during heavy use or with low battery, can experience lag, which does not occur in Live View.

canon_600dCanon 600D

Pros: Pretty good image quality, adjustable screen, discrete videos but still in line with years and price, battery

Cons: File not very workable, autofocus effective only the central, high ISO very low

Opinion: I had the Canon 600D for a few years, my first SLR that introduced me to photography. Initially I did not feel the limits, but they came as soon as I began to understand more about it. Machine body great to carry around, light but still resistant, it is not very energetic so the battery lasts really long. I used it both to make videos and photos, and if you do not have very high demands it can give some satisfaction. The color science is that of Canon, so if you expose well you get really beautiful files, manipulable without exaggerating. The adjustable screen is also excellent, especially when shooting videos. The sore points are mainly in reliability and speed. The body is slow, the precise autofocus only on the central point forces you to recompose, which I have always hated to do, and with little light it practically does not exist. The tightness at high ISO is also just enough, already at 800ISO, especially with little light, the file is quite kneaded. This camera pushes you to improvise, to learn how to get by, because in many situations you have to compensate for the lack of technology with photographic technique and ingenuity, and therefore I recommend it to those who want to start, it is ridiculous and can be a teacher.

canon_efs18-135usmCanon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Pros: Jack of all trades

Cons: Master of none

Opinion: This is the latest evolution of Canon's APS-C SLR lens kit. The thing that is immediately noticeable is the speed and precision of focusing, like the latest L-series lenses, as it equips the Nano USM system. Used with bodies with Dual Pixel, it is very reliable in tracking subjects, and can also be used for some sports shots. The image quality is what you can expect from a kit lens, so good but not great in apertures and focal lengths, and dropping at TA and in limit focal lengths. If well used and known, it returns sharp images and generally with a good microcontrast, but it is in the video shooting that it makes the best, having also been designed from the point of view of content creators. Without expecting cinematic levels, used for social content, vlogs and similar areas returns excellent shots, also assisted by the stabilizer. The "negative" sides (which are actually characteristics due to the fact that it is a non-specific kit lens) are obviously the brightness, the aperture that varies with the focal length and the build quality, good but that still does not return a feeling of solidity. Overall it was a very good lens, I deliberately use the past because currently despite the features there are currently preferable options in RF counterparts with related bodies.

canon_efs_18-55_v3Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III

Pros: When it starts to suck, it means you're learning to photograph

Cons: Jack of all trades

Opinion: In 2011 they gave me the first camera, with this plastic and glass accrocchio attached to it. At the time I did not understand a broken tube of photography, and even less of lenses, and this dark, inaccurate, unclear lens and with the build quality of a bale of hay seemed to me the world. 18-55 is an optimal focal range, allowing you to experience a little bit of everything, and overall this lens is not so much to throw away. Initially I used it to report on events, and I took it on vacation like any tourist who with the SLR in hand believes himself a great photographer. I also used it for some videos, obviously focusing in manual because my 600D of the times with cabbage that had the Dual Pixel. Technically speaking, completely forget about reliability with this lens. The characteristics that distinguish it are slowness, lack of precision, lack of sharpness even with closed apertures. The advantages are that, given the cost and the actual value, you will beat a lot of what could happen, so you can really take it anywhere and it won't give you any thought. Whether it is a season in a tourist village (it is never), the holiday in the middle of the open with a lot of illegal sleep on the beach, the evening at the disco to be photographed strictly with the built-in flash, or you want to give your shots a vintage, dirty and lo-fi flavor (I really heard this), this 18-55 will do its job very well, And he will take home photos that to inexperienced eyes will seem like manna from heaven. But do not try to use it for something higher, because its intrinsic limits will be felt immediately, and it will be at that point that you will want to buy something better, and the 18-55 will have fulfilled its primary function, that is to start a person to photograph and make him understand what he wants to do, with which lenses and how. When the 18-55 starts to go tight, it means that you have grown on a technical level.

canon_50_f1-4Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Pros: Image rendering, cost used, brightness, versatility

Cons: Difficult to tame lens with steep learning curve, inaccurate autofocus on old bodies, almost unusable at TA, material quality

Opinion: This lens was my first lens after kit 18-55. Initially it was very difficult to appreciate, I bought it in 2013, and at the time for a neophyte such a lens was complex to tame and make the most of. At full opening the fire borders on unmanageability, and forget incisive images without artifacts. Closing it slightly improves, but it is from f / 3.5 to f / 9 that gives the best of itself ever. At those apertures it reaches the maximum yield, and the images it provides are perfect, with excellent colors, and microcontrast that almost does not require sharpening in post. The focus is fast enough, and with new generation bodies that take advantage of the Dual Pixel also quite precise, but obviously light years behind when compared to the STM and Nano USM systems. It will be virtually impossible to photograph moving subjects. On a constructive level it is very plastic, the bayonet hook is made of metal, but overall it does not return a feeling of solidity, despite having de facto proved to be a very resistant lens. Very easy to disassemble, if you are a minimum scafati you can safely open it and clean it at home, especially after using it in environments such as beach or similar, where the lack of waterproofing is felt. Overall it is a lens that I would recommend to those looking for something that can provide high quality in all those areas that do not require speed, especially portrait set and street, and for the cost of used I consider it an excellent investment able to increase the quality of images and creative possibilities without putting too much hand to the wallet.

canon_80dCanon 80D

Pros: Color Science, Autofocus in LV, Optimal Workflow

Cons: Viewfinder autofocus, poor usability over 800ISO, video performance can be improved (for 2016)

Opinion: I have been using the 80D for several years. Purchased in 2016 to replace a limiting 600D for me, it was and still is a solid midrange camera. The 24 megapixels are the optimal number, right balance between an optimal workflow and a resolute file. I used it for practically every kind of photography, preferring above all the portrait, where Canon's color science gives its best. Viewfinder autofocus is good if the scene is well lit, much less with high contrasts and low light. To have the best performance you need to shoot from Live View, taking advantage of the Dual Pixel system that has performance not unlike mirrorless, both in speed and precision. In video it is sufficiently solid, while lacking dedicated options and 4K, which in 2016 was present on several bodies of similar range. However, it remains a good body to make small films and / or short films, without having excessive claims of yield. The ISO range, taking into account the period, is rather limited, as the files are sufficiently sharp and workable up to 800ISO, and already the 1600 are preferable only in emergency situations. The workability in general of the files is good, but not excellent especially when compared with today's bodies and with other brands.
