Reviews of cameras, lenses, tripods, heads and other accessories written by Fabio Carissimi

canon_7d Canon 7D

Pros: Build, AF, reliability, battery, 8fps burst

Cons: High ISO resistance (as with most APS C)

Opinion: Bought new at the time I still manage to use it as a third body on some rare occasion where you need AF, burst, factor 1.6 x ... and lots of light available. I state that the instruction manual should be designed for a top set based on the context, if the camera is combined with L series lenses (or beautiful fixed lenses) the photos obtained can still definitely surprise. Obviously it remains a daytime beauty or rather, a correct exposure is essential, in poorly lit settings without auxiliary lights relying only on the high ISO factor, it would lead to not so amazing results ... you just need to know its limits! The body is granite, the battery life is great, the AF very responsive, there aren't as many points but they work well and the 8fps burst is amply sufficient (for my needs). Conclusion? Tempted to sell it, then looking at the prices (the deal would eventually be for those who buy) and some sporting events (but not only) to put it to the test again in the end they definitely made me change my mind ... do I think that 7D is like an excellent wine that improves with age or maybe it will be me who will have studied the manual over the years?

canon_16-35_v2 Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L USM II

Pros: Focal range, f/2.8 aperture, "vintage" rendering, superb colors

Cons: edges and distortion at 16mm and with aperture wide open but when you know you adjust accordingly ...

Opinion: ?I state that I love the vintage result, these lenses are far from today's "perfection" but they have a soul that makes the difference for me! Bought used with some small uncertainty (reading the reviews here on Juza), this lens pleasantly surprised me for the rendering, colors and detachment of the subject, (I also own the 35 f1.4 I series; fabulous!) but above all the focal range makes it ideal for most of the situations I face! For effective use, its characteristics must certainly be understood but after that it gives amazing shots. I would never part with it!

samyang_14 Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical

Pros: Optical quality, colors, sharpness, angle of view

Cons: Approximate MAF ferrule, distortion

Opinion: Initially purchased used to take interior photos, it allowed me to take home some beautiful shots set on the occasion of weddings. I appreciated it for the features described above, I add the robustness and ease of use (with its limitations, lack of exif data on Canon), the MAF ring is a bit out of balance and the distortion sometimes requires some precautions in post production, however without many automatisms I found it fun to use (albeit with its limits of use) in any case recommended for the quality / price ratio for those who start with these types of wide angles Pushed. Vote 9 full.

canon_85_f1-8 Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM

Pros: Pros: Brightness, bokeh, weight/size, quality/price

Cons: Chromatic aberrations

Opinion: Definitely a classic of Canon, I tried it both on apsc and ff and has a yield that I always like very much, bright with a beautiful bokeh, sharp already at 1.8, af fast and precise, some forum user has rightly written "a series L missed" in fact I feel like sharing this opinion, the only note against are the chromatic aberrations / purple fringing that occur in certain situations of strong brightness. Value for money 10. Advised!

canon_24-105 Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM

Pros: All-rounder, sharpness, colors, AF, construction.

Cons: Barrel does not lock.

Opinion: My first L series! The greater range of focal lengths covered and the price difference compared to the 24-70 made me choose it. It is an incredible all-rounder, a real guarantee when you want to play it safe and take home the service, it also has excellent colors, good bokeh, is sharp and has excellent stabilization; If they have sold them to wagons there will be a reason. On FF at 24mm it has a slight distortion but nothing dramatic, absolutely recoverable. It is an f4, so a bit dark, it does not have the magic of 24-70 but covers many more focal lengths, a feature that makes it irreplaceable. For me it remains a great companion of adventures! Rated 9 full.

canon_28_f1-8 Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM

Pros: Bright, small size, vintage yield.

Cons: A bit soft at full opening?

Opinion: I love this lens for its vintage rendering has given me so many shots and emotions. A bit soft at the edges at full opening (I like it) has an excellent sharpness in the center but this is one of its peculiarities! Lens for reportage and street personally I used it with satisfaction even in weddings. On FF with its 28mm has a yield that I fell in love with! On several occasions I mounted it on APSC (=45mm) but it exalts me in a lesser way. I underline what has already been written previously by other users; "... which allows him to make beautiful set portraits and remarkable blur effects." For me it was a pleasant surprise, fantastic to use is excellent lens, I can only recommend it 100%.

canon_100_macro Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

Pros: All

Cons: Nothing

Opinion: I wanted a macro lens without committing myself too much financially and found it used by a forum user a couple of years ago. Using it I was favorably surprised in all respects; weight, bulk, versatility and ... the beauty of macro photos at TA, so beautiful that they look like paintings that make you feel a bit like a painter and artist! I would be curious to test the L version to see the differences. Just some uncertainty of the AF detected on my model in some situation a bit 'at the limit. A gem! RATING 9.5

samyang_8fisheye_f3-5ii Samyang 8mm f/3.5 UMC Fish-eye CS II

Pros: Perfect distortion, materials and construction

Cons: A bit dark, lack of exif data on Canon

Opinion: New or used, it's always money well spent. Focal "spatial" to say the least, creativity to "throttle" and pure fun in use. It has the ideal distortion mounted on Canon APS-C, good color rendering. The only drawback; the machine does not recognize the type of optics and therefore the correct exif data is missing. The duty to set in manual adds further charm in its use. Fun, easy and creative! RATING 9
