![]() | Panasonic Lumix S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 Pros: Sharpness, contrast, weight, size, cost, focal range, tropicalization. Cons: Virtually nothing Opinion: On Panasonic S1 (so 'only' 24 mpx) has a disarming sharpness. Fully usable at TA, if closed by a stop it becomes excellent and at intermediate diaphragms (f8 - f11) it touches the quality of the fixed. A 'nice to have' would be the diaphragm ring like Sigma, but Panasonic follows another philosophy. It is not stabilized, but the excellent Panasonic bodies take care of this too. Tested on the S5 at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart: https://www.juzaphoto.com/me.php?pg=335884&l=it sent on August 05, 2022 |
![]() | Panasonic Lumix S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Macro O.I.S Pros: Image quality, stabilization, AF speed, compactness, build quality Cons: For the price it has could include the soft bag Opinion: Difficult to find defects, at least used on the 24mpx of the S1. Made homogeneous on the entire frame at any focal length, it does not even yield on the tele side. Extremely fast AF. Spectacular stabilization. Although not a Pro the build quality is top as for all Panasonic S lenses. In the 70mm position it is slightly longer than the 24-105, so very convenient for transport. A product overall very intelligent and, for amateur use, in my opinion preferable to both 70-200. sent on April 28, 2022 |
![]() | Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro Art Pros: Absolute image quality, construction, precision maf in af-s, cost. Cons: Autofocus in af-c Opinion: Configuration: optics with fw 1.1 used on Panasonic S1 body with fw 1.7 (April 2021). The image quality is excellent without the need for any SW correction. Excellent ergonomics: it is perfectly balanced on a body as heavy as the S1. Complete control equipment: from the diaphragm ring with block and decliccable, to the programmable function button, to the switch with the 3 maf ranges. The maf ring while being 'drive by wire' provides a pasty and precise response. Physical construction prioritizes maf accuracy over its speed. Only relevant defect: in af-c it shows not full compatibility with Panasonic DFD, showing those annoying micro fluctuations that also had Pana optics before firmware 1.6 (and later); I do not know how much this problem can be solved by one of the two players of the consortium (Sigma or Pana) with a firmware, but at the moment for some fields of use it can be an operational limit. sent on April 13, 2021 |
![]() | Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-45mm f/4 Pro Pros: Size and weight, image quality, homogeneous yield to the different focal points, construction. Cons: You give up the function button and the sliding ring to switch to manual focus. Opinion: It seems to use a miniaturized 12-100/4: optical yield, AF speed, robustness, feeling of the rings - The tiny size (for a zoom) imposes the aforementioned waivers, but are in my opinion largely compensated by the practicality of use and the rendering of the image. The lampshed is very protective, but discreetly increases its dimensions. Unlike the brother 12-40/2.8 circulates little in second hand, so its price remains quite high. Stabilization only in the chamber is largely sufficient for the maximum focal of 45mm. sent on March 09, 2021 |
![]() | Panasonic Lumix S Pro 70-200mm f/4 OIS Pros: Construction - Stabilization - Optical Performance - AF Speed Cons: Cost Opinion: Hard to find faults, if you evaluate regardless of the cost. The perceived quality is excellent, both in terms of materials/robustness and optical yield; the AF is lightning fast and the blurring remains soft and progressive even closing the diaphragm. Between the 70-200/4 on the market is the heaviest, but well matches with Panasonic bodies, and is also the only one with a 77mm front lens, which allows you to have an almost absent vignette. To date, March 2020, the achilles heel is the cost, which places it closer to the f/2.8 counterparts than to the f/4 competitors of other brands .. but for the L system it is also the only choice, as there is no alternative. sent on March 24, 2020 |
![]() | Canon 5D Pros: Image Quality Cons: Project obsolete Opinion: Evaluated using the criteria of today, the remains of a very high value high image quality (even greater than 1Dmk3 in my opinion). For the rest shows the age of the project: the size of the monitor, configurability (poor), max ISO, AF module is not exciting in low light, auto white balance is not perfect, of course, much less anything LV movies. To buy for those looking for the essential and knows how to work with an approach 'film-like' sent on July 29, 2011 |
![]() | Canon 1D Mark III Pros: ergonomics, battery life, dual slot, build quality, AF accuracy, image quality Cons: quality monitor (by today's standards) Opinion: Some element starts to show the 'weight' of the year (ISO max, monitor), but if you do not need the video, is a camera that still exceeded in many respects the contemporary products. Aps-h sensor with the area covered by the AF sensor is perfect, the AF is extremely fast, accurate and configurable, and works even in very low light. Excellent auto white balance, returns tend to be saturated colors and high image quality. In adverse weather conditions is the only camera body (Canon at home) that removes any concern to the photographer. sent on July 28, 2011 |
