Until the time of purchase and the first shots with this Sigma lens, I considered the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM the top in terms of sharpness and contrast... well, this surpasses it. Opinion: Configuration: optics with fw 1.1 used on Panasonic S1 body with fw 1.7 (April 2021). The image quality is excellent without the need for any SW correction. Excellent ergonomics: it is perfectly balanced on a body as heavy as the S1. Complete control equipment: from the diaphragm ring with block and decliccable, to the programmable function button, to the switch with the 3 maf ranges. The maf ring while being 'drive by wire' provides a pasty and precise response. Physical construction prioritizes maf accuracy over its speed. Only relevant defect: in af-c it shows not full compatibility with Panasonic DFD, showing those annoying micro fluctuations that also had Pana optics before firmware 1.6 (and later); I do not know how much this problem can be solved by one of the two players of the consortium (Sigma or Pana) with a firmware, but at the moment for some fields of use it can be an operational limit.
