canon_eos_r5Canon EOS R5

Pros: lots of news, highly developed AF

Cons: cost, battery, many parameters to learn

Opinion: Born with the canon 600D, passed to the 5D III (which in my opinion is and remains an extraordinary machine), bought the R that I kept for 1 year .. and in the end spent 2000 euros thanks to trade-in at RCE and I bought the R5. I do not want to go back to the technical disquisitions that people much more experienced than me have clearly described. Just highlight in a very practical way..... 1 I did not notice a great advance in sharpness and detail relative to 45Mp. I think I get who knows what .. but if I have to be honest a normal photo in the mountains, maybe of a wild animal or a panorama is practically identical to the R and slightly higher than the 5D mIII. 2. as a good passionate user, I downloaded the whole manual, printed, read everything, tried to study it ... I think there is so much stuff to know that it is easy to get lost. I honestly find that you lose the immediacy of a car where perhaps with fewer options it was easier to take and shoot ... 3. The battery is a different world... percarita seems the comparison of when we all switched to smartphones, the old nokia lasted a week and the smartphone barely arrived at half a day. let's say that you have to count 600 shots in manual mixed car mode to be sure to stay active with enough energy. 4. I have not noticed any particular improvements in having internal stabilization, on or off for my way of photographing has no incidence. 5. from 5d to R the difference on the viewfinder I noticed it, perhaps it was the thing that bothered me most of all (in addition to the obnoxious swipe), but from the R to the R5 it has definitely improved and I must say that I do not notice so much difference. It is not what makes you photograph better or worse, percarita is not yet up to the optical viewfinder, but I think it is absolutely superimposable as a yield. 6. I thought that the selection of the af point with the touch was manna from heaven, but practically I can not use it, I find myself using the joistick or relying on the car identification of the car. 7. the Af as a chase is very valid and very helpful, but it is often deceived. a huge advance, but first the machine must understand what you want to pursue. my subjects (children, animals, insects) often move quickly in an environment rich in details and the machine sometimes makes mistakes to identify the subject or the eye of the subject. with this I am not saying that it does not work, but simply that reading here and there I thought it was really infallible. Instead it is very advanced, it chases very well, but let's say that you have to work on it a little and it does not do the whole car at all. (I have all L-series RF lenses, so I don't blame the lenses). 8. I don't know anything about videos because I don't make 9. the file size is passable, we are from 25 to 35 mb for photos in compressed raw format. I have rather difficulty seeing the preview on both win 10 and 11, slightly faster on 11. keep in mind that windows tends to apply some sort of filter after a few seconds after viewing for cr3 files. it is therefore necessary to always use dedicated software such as lightroom or photoshop. I hope that sooner or later they will fix this nonsense that once put in place could be very convenient. 10. is it worth it for the 2000 euros? no in my opinion no, I have no improvements on the photos that are worth 2000 euros.

canon_rf100-500Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM

Pros: Focus speed, AF accuracy, lightness and portability

Cons: Brightness, little incisive clutch, white paint less resistant than predecessors, price

Opinion: After many doubts and research I decided in May to buy this lens by giving in exchange the canon 100-400 series II. with RCE it was quite simple, the adjustment on my part in the end was 1500 euros. I had to buy it from scratch I don't think I would have been able to buy it. if I can be completely honest, I don't think the improvement was worth the expense. I want to say that it is an excellent lens, well built, certainly improved compared to the predecessor. For all this is not worth 1500 euros of difference (my personal opinion). I photograph a bit of everything, nature, animals, portraits, architectural details. All obviously made very well in combination with the R5, but I think that the color rendering, and the brightness of the 100-400 was better for my way of photographing. if we talk about speed, you will come this is faster, but we are talking about fractions of a second. the substantial difference is that this lens was able to follow a bird of prey in flight with greater accuracy than 100-400. a few more frames in focus and 100mm more. 1500 euros? I don't know. Probably not. it is clear that it is easy to talk like this once you have it in support and then its service does it. but if I went back I would no longer be so convinced. then he did not like very much the plastic rendering of the construction, siuramente lighter, but more delicate. in fact I do not pay much attention in the woods or on inaccessible terrain, if I have to put the car on the ground I do not have many problems, let's say that the white paint already has small black spots (this with the previous lens happened after so much time and many more abuses). here in my opinion this is not acceptable for such a product. In addition, the clutch is soft, so if I block the lens, while walking in the mountains it tends to stretch the same. that must not happen either. and I consider it a blasphemy to have to ask to send 3000 euros of lens back to have it fine-tuned in the store. these things must be checked before being sold. I do not want to upset anyone, the lens is beautiful and is in my opinion the top that you can find on the market. I only say that if you have a 100-400 series II L with which you are comfortable, perhaps it is not the case to rush to replace it as I did.
