leica_summicron_sl35_f2Leica APO Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH

Pros: Outstanding sharpness at maximum opening, incredible "plasticity", reproduction of shades of color

Cons: High price

Opinion: Fantastic optics! With the new L lenses, in my opinion, Leica has reached new heights in terms of image quality: absolute sharpness all over the frame already at maximum opening, impressive three-dimensionality, incredible ability to represent the colors, lightning autofocus (tested on SL and SL2). As I wrote in the review of the 90L, looking at the images taken with these Leica L-series lenses, you have the impression of being in front of a file of a medium-sized machine so many are the details, the visible shades of color and the "plasticity" Returned. This 35 mm SL, as a total performance on the SL and SL2, I prefer it to the summilux-M 35 asph FLE that I own and love.

leica_summicron_sl90_f2Leica APO-Summicron-SL 90mm f/2 ASPH

Pros: Construction, stratospheric performance, autofocus speed

Cons: Price Elavato

Opinion: Perfect optics. The review could be closed here! The lens is built impeccably, the autofocus is very fast and the image quality truly incredible. Already at full aperture is a blade and the images enjoy an impressive detail and three-dimensionality, the fuzzy is creamy in perfect Leica style and the colors are beautiful. Looking at the files you have the impression that they come from a MF system and not a FF. The problem of this viewpoint is perhaps that of being too resolute and the good Sante Castignani would write that it is "too much for human subjects", but it must be said that the photos altogether have a very analogue look and enjoy a great naturalness (it was I haven't seen a result like that in a while. The price is undoubtedly high, but waiting for the right opportunity (it takes a little patience), you can find Optics ex demo, or used Seminuove, at very attractive prices. Since I have the 90SL I have not been able to use the 85 Canon 1.2 II that I adore...

leica_summilux_sl50_f1-4Leica Summilux-SL 50mm f/1.4 ASPH

Pros: Impeccable construction, image quality

Cons: Heavy and cumbersome (compared to the optics of the M system), price

Opinion: I switched to the SL system a little at a time: first I took the cover machine, which for some time I used with the M and R lenses, then I bought the proprietary lens (50SL and 90SL). What about the 50SL? It is heavy and cumbersome (compared to the M system lenses) but its quality is truly incredible. QI exceeds the excellent summilux m 50 asph and reaches the levels of APO Summicron M 50 while maintaining the typical character of "Lux Lens". With the latest firmware update the autofocus is very fast, very precise, and no mistake a shot even at maximum aperture (tried on fast moving subjects). The files that come out from the optical Union/sensor leave an open mouth. I have already written in some threads and I reiterate: the SL system is the Leica system adapted to The Times today, I do not want to lovers of rangefinder.

leica_noctilux_m75_f1-25Leica Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH

Pros: High level rendering, impeccable construction

Cons: Weight, price

Opinion: I was able to test this "monster" in a fairly thorough way and decided to write a small review. First of all, I thank my dear friend Hadrian, owner of this extraordinary lens, for giving me the possibility to mount it on my SL. Let's start by talking about the construction: impeccable! Like all the optics in the house. To the touch it transmits a feeling of solidity, thanks also to the generous weight (if I am not mistaken should exceed a little Kg), but once mounted on the SL, the camera/lens system is well balanced and you can work well, the ring nuts flow in your hand to wonder and The focus, using the viewfinder of the SL, is very accurate. We come now to the yield: incredible sharpness from the maximum aperture, excellent contrast, gorgeous colors and excellent backlight hold. The plasticity is finally typical of the best lenses of the Leica production. This lens is a real masterpiece. The price is very high and I will not make assessments on how much is really proportionate to the performance, I prefer instead to spend two words on the comparison with the Summilux of focal pare that I own. I start by saying that the two lenses produce images with a very but very similar global footprint. The 75Lux, at maximum aperture, does not have the sharpness of the Noctilux, the photos are a little less contrasted with more "pastel" colors and the tightness to the backlight, while being good, is not comparable to that of the more modern lens. The old glass on the other hand, with its "imperfections", produces more pictorial images endowed with a plasticity even higher than the already elevated one of the new and more "perfect" noctilux.

leica_sl_601Leica SL (Typ 601)

Pros: Build quality, ergonomics, responsiveness, sensor performance, electronic viewfinder

Cons: High cost

Opinion: I come from a Leica M Typ 240 that I sold with the idea of moving to the M10, but after several days of testing, the spark for the new born of the House of the red sticker is not taken and so I "folded" on the SL that then I decided to buy. I do not like much the rangefinder, and since with the 240 I used almost exclusively the EVF (now a little ' dated), I was looking for a camera that could be more performant in this respect. What about the Leica SL? It's a great car! Impeccable construction and ergonomics at the highest level, electronic viewfinder at the moment unparalleled, final file of the highest quality. The yield of the sensor, in combination with the lenses of the M and R systems, is spectacular and very far away from what you get using these lenses on mirrorless than other brands (I speak from direct experience and not for what I have heard or read). The 24 mpx are abundantly sufficient for most uses and the dynamic range and high ISO tightness are of a very good standard. Another feature that immediately jumps to the eye is the great responsiveness, finally a Leica in step with the times! For someone like myself who loves the optical performance of M and R systems and doesn't like the rangefinder, it's the ideal camera. The cost is high, although the quality there is all, for this reason, at the time of its release, I have not considered, but now that you start to find excellent used (my camera is a demo with only 24 clicks to the active purchased at half the price of the new) , I highly recommend it to all lovers of the true "Leica rendition" Who Do not sympathize so much with the rangefinder.

canon_5d_mark_ivCanon 5D Mark IV

Pros: A significant step forward compared to the already good 5D mk III (dynamic range, iso hold, autofocus, color rendering, touch monitor)

Cons: For now nobody

Opinion: I have read and reviewed all the reviews that are on the net and I have followed the threads of many forums, but despite the many favorable opinions, I have been undecided on purchasing to the end. The idea of ??retiring my trust in 5D mkIII did not like me and I was convinced that with this new model, I would not have substantial benefits. I was wrong! After several months of use, I can say that mkIV is superior, and not least, to the "old" mkIII: improved performance, dynamic range and improved ISO hold, sensor with higher resolution and touch screen. Great surprise was the color rendering of the new sensor! I loved the 1Ds mkIII for its files with an "analog" footprint and extremely natural colors (a feature unknown to Canon sensors of subsequent generations), with mkIV FINALLY being the right path.

leica_summiluxm50_f1-4asphLeica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH

Pros: Construction, Size, Surrender

Cons: Elegant cost (if we want to consider it a fault)

Opinion: It's a STRATOSFERICA optica.rn I tried so many (maybe too many) 50mm and nobody, in my opinion, manages to match this lens. The whole opening gives a three-dimensional top-quality with well-spaced plans and a top-notch transparency. Blurry is creamy and uniform and the chromatic is exciting. The pictures I get, using this jewel with the M240, literally left open. I have the Canon 50mm 1.2 (which I think is a big lens) but, from a direct comparison with the Lux, the Japanese optics comes out really bad. Rnrn rn

zeiss_21Zeiss ZE/ZF.2 Distagon T* 21mm f/2.8

Pros: Excellent optical quality

Cons: Not exactly cheap, but the quality has its price

Opinion: Just do a search online to find many "authoritative" reviews that highlight the high performance of this lens. By happy owner I can say that, once this is attached to the camera, it is very difficult to be removed to be replaced by other lenses! Using this lens, from the earliest shots, it is clear why we talk about 3D Zeiss!
