![]() | Sony A7r Pros: Lightweight, small, now old-style sensor also in terms of overall performance Cons: High ISO noise, rather delicate LCD monitor Opinion: I tried my first sony taking an A7R with 120,000 shots on my shoulders; I wanted to put the old Nikon manual lenses back into operation with a light and properly built body. I did not find any flaw on the point of build quality except that the LCD monitor tends to become opaque over time. As far as the photographic performance is concerned, the 36 Mpx sensor (which should be very similar to that of the Nikon D800) I find that it works well with these lenses, except for a presence of noise that can be felt practically immediately (I would say from 400 ISO upwards) but not excessively invasive. the most important thing for me is that the camera body (like the other A7 first series) is really small and light and (at my age) I think it is a "unicum" wanting to carry three lenses (e.g. 20/35/105 AIS) with a total weight under 1.5kg ...; in short, an experience that I recommend to those who do not use AF and are looking for simplicity and lightness combined with a respectable quality (see some shots in my latest galleries) ... sent on February 24, 2025 |
![]() | TTArtisan APS-C 25mm f/2 Pros: All metal (even the screw cap) and glass, well built, small and pleasant to use. Cons: Poorly defined edges at TA and (at least my specimen) with inaccurate MAF scale. A bit of play in the graft. Obvious flare. Opinion: I'm having fun trying these lenses on Sunday rides, after the 50 f2 I got this 25mm always f2. It's small, well built and also aesthetically pleasing (at least to me). I appreciated the kind of color it renders (it may look a bit dull but I think this is consistent with the type of lens that actually resembles the old manual lenses in the rendering). At TA you have to be careful about light sources and be aware of both vignetting and decay at the edges. On the whole, however, also taking into account the price, I liked it and also the focal length (in aps-c we are talking about a 37mm) is interesting. I think it goes without saying that we are very far from the performance of the 23 of the parent company (I can compare it with the 1.4 first series which remains one of the lenses I prefer but it is bigger and heavier). I hope to upload soon some images taken with both x-t1 and x-t3, on 16mp sensors it seems to me more consistent in terms of overall performance (but here too are evaluations that derive from the tastes and needs of each of us. sent on May 20, 2024 |
![]() | Fujifilm X-PRO1 Pros: Sensor that I still consider one of the best in the Fuji panorama, workable and not heavy files, unique colors (the Classic Chrome profile that will only arrive from XT1 onwards is missing), aesthetics and build quality I think the best ever in Fujifilm's digital production Cons: The viewfinder today (used in electronics) is not the best, to replace the battery or remove the card you have to remove the (beautiful) sheath. Opinion: It's 2024, I've had the T5, I use the T1, the H1 and the T3, but if I want to go out and enjoy the moment of setting up the shot to the fullest, I take it with the smaller lenses (18 f2, 35 f1.4 and sometimes the 56 1.2 .. not very small). The final result is remarkable, I often reduce the sharpness to have even more images consistent with the spirit of the sensor. I don't know, I bought it new at the time but I still love it. then are tastes.. sent on May 09, 2024 |
![]() | Fujifilm X-T5 Pros: Image Quality, Build, Portability, Monitor Movement Type Cons: monitor game problem (my sample but I've seen others suffer from it too) Opinion: I've owned the t5 for about two months now but use it daily. I come from several previous models from the same company (h1 - pro1 - t1 - 100s - e3 - e2) and the steps forward are remarkable in terms of AF - image quality - possible adjustments for every useful aspect - stabilization. I agree with many of Rugger's considerations on the quality of the files he generates and I confirm that the issue that some older lenses suffer from them is not true in my opinion: I use the old 23 and 35 f1.4 with satisfaction, as well as the 14 f2.8 and the 56 APD. Excellent performance with the viltrox 85 II. The only thing that remains is that some optics, in fact, do not exploit the full potential of the new sensor in terms of possible definition. The perceptible build quality (besides the problem of monitor gaming) is not quite the same as the t1 or pro1 or even the h1. But this is probably the understandable development in terms of costs: it is still a very high level. In short, it is absolutely advisable with the suggestion of having adequate memories for saving files that are actually more voluminous and it is easy to generate many GB of archive. Update, without wanting to express an overall judgment .. , in the end I realized that compared to my use the sensor of the T5 was too much.. I sold and took back a semi-new t3 to join the H1 and the others with the 16mp sensor which, I repeat for my use, remain completely satisfactory. sent on December 04, 2023 |
![]() | Zeiss Jena Biotar 58mm f/2 Pros: Excellently constructed, color rendering, smooth and very precise focus ring, nice blur Cons: Poor overall sharpness but compatible with the age of construction Opinion: what can I say about a lens that is a pleasure to handle due to the excellent construction, you should not expect performance comparable to modern optics in terms of sharpness but it can give beautiful results in the portrait (I use it on fuji APSC and therefore I get a focal length) taking into account the price at which it is located I recommend it sent on November 22, 2023 |
![]() | TTArtisan 50mm f/2 Pros: Build quality - compactness - aesthetics - rather personal color rendering Cons: Discrete definition only at CT and also at a distance Opinion: I use this lens on Fuji APS-C (X-H1 and X-T5) and I find it interesting especially for rides where I want to be "light", adding it to the 18 F2 and the 35 F1.4. With some precautions (for example limiting the TA shots to cases that require it) I find the overall performance good also taking into account the really low cost. I also noticed a perceptible deterioration in the case of shots of subjects at a significant distance (above 15/20 m) but it could also be my specimen not exactly well calibrated. I also mounted it on the X-E3 making it very portable even in your pocket, with good results. In short, on the whole, I would recommend it with the awareness of some limitations, as mentioned. I owned the fuji 50 f2 and there we are on other levels.. as well as compared to any version of the 56... sent on November 21, 2023 |
![]() | Viltrox AF 85mm f/1.8 II Pros: sharpness and overall image quality Cons: I would say nothing maybe the hood that does not engage quickly Opinion: I have been using this lens for about a year on fuji APS-C so with a focal length that translates into about a 130 mm. overall I find it a good lens well usable, given the brightness, for interiors (concerts, ceremonies and more). given the size is a bit unbalanced on the XE series while working well on both XT and XH (on X-H1 sometimes goes into block the AF). good three-dimensionality and color rendering. sent on September 29, 2023 |
![]() | Samyang 135mm f/2 ED UMC Pros: Excellent image definition and precise MAF adjustment Cons: maybe the weight but I think it is consistent with the characteristics of the lens, the hood rather ugly Opinion: I took the samyang 135 f2 to use it on mirrorless aps-c Fujifilm then with the well-known crop factor that makes it a bright 200mm. I use it mainly for remote portraits, landscapes and photographs in events: what can I say, as an owner of both the Fuji 56 APD and the viltrox 85, I am very favorably impressed. The color rendering is balanced (in my opinion better than that of the Viltrox that tends to magenta in some situations) and hardly mistakes a photo for incorrect focusing. I use it mostly on X-H1 so I benefit from the stabilizer being able to shoot even with 1/60 time without motion problems. I highly recommend it. sent on September 18, 2023 |
