panasonic_gx9Panasonic GX9

Pros: Small

Cons: Little ergonomics, ridiculous battery life, bad app, cumbersome menu, firmware update stopped several years ago.

Opinion: I was persuaded to take this machine because I was looking for something more "portable" than the Z6_II or that brick of the Sigma Sd Quattro. In fact, the Gx9 is portable, compact and light and so are its optics. And here the merits end, especially if you come from decades of film and digital FF or with the infamous Foveon inside. It is small yes, but also not very manageable, with your fingers you end up mixing between the controls, if you come from larger camera bodies you have to take into account a period of adaptation. I took it with Panaleica 12-60 which seems to me a good lens even if the autofocus, not infrequently, is uncertain. The battery lasts so little that I will not complain more than that of the Sigma, with ordinary use, in a quiet outing you do not get half a day. Having two is the minimum necessary. The app is really bad, unstable, it only works if there is a Wi-Fi otherwise it is an absolute disaster, the firmware is stopped years ago and some updates would not hurt, just to say, the LCD viewfinder passage leaves a lot to be desired. Finally the files, I had read wonders, fantastic files, spectacular ... It will be that I come from other standards but to me they seem normal, nothing more. In summary, for me a disappointment, but I guess it depends on what you are used to. Update, after a few months I still can not understand the sense of this machine, really better invest in an iPhone, does the same and at least the battery lasts 1 full day.

sigma_sd_quattroSigma SD Quattro

Pros: The Foveon sensor, the proprietary Sigma optics, a certain simplicity of use, excellent RAW and JPG files, RAW development system in the machine simple and quick

Cons: Outdated support technology, embarrassing autofocus, excessive weight, ridiculous battery life, the Foveon will never - it seems - FF

Opinion: I arrived at digital after many years of film (sorry but analog you can not hear) and I started with a super technological Z6_II which I am very happy. I took the Sigma attracted by the Foveon and the vulgate according to which the files of this sensor are close to the film. Now in all honesty I must say that this machine churns out very beautiful files, at least in my opinion. To get the results I want I have to do much less PP than with the Nikon but even with this in the end I get where I want. The limitations of this machine are all in the technology around the sensor. An embarrassing autofocus for slowness and sometimes unable to act in low-contrast conditions (sea sky with a bit of haze the really impossible scenario), icing on the cake a battery with a ridiculous duration. It is a camera for contemplative photography, art, medieval old towns, gardens, landscapes, relaxed street. I hope that sooner or later Sigma Corp will deny me and pull out an FF with a technology around it that lives up to the current expectations.

nikon_z14-24_f2-8Nikon Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S

Pros: A razor, very sharp, very high quality

Cons: dimensions towards fixed lens lenses, price, not free from distortion

Opinion: For me who come from the so-called analog, the photos with rolls in short, having such a marked sharpness in a non-fixed perspective was a very pleasant surprise. The lens is really sharp and pleasant, the files produced are definitely beautiful and need minimal pp, this is a personal point of view of course but objectively the files are really good. I understand those who call it small and handy... compared to the fixed lenses from analog photos I see it huge but I appreciate the point of view of those who have a different perspective. Just a consideration from this point of view, alternatively I had assumed the 14-24 Sigma that costs a lot less, here is that weighs almost twice as much on its own and for the Z attack you need the adapter. A drawback that I would like to point out is that this lens is not free from distortion, at the minimum focal length and for very close subjects, you have to pay attention to it.

nikon_z24-200vrNikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR

Pros: Extremely versatile, relatively portable, perfect for amateurs

Cons: not very bright but not a big deal

Opinion: Let's immediately mark the fact that it is not one of the lenses of the PRO Nikon Z line. Having said that, to cover the focal range of this lens with the PRO, it takes 2, the 24-70 and the 70-200 that - if both pro - come to cost over 5K. For users like me who use the forographic machine for leisure and hobby, I would say that it is ideal and all in all also preferable to the 24 -70 f4. Despite the fateful f 4-6.3, I can reassure everyone that bokeh can be done and the risk of not being able to take a picture for low light is really minimal, especially if the camera body is a Z6/Z7 versions I or II, these machines in fact have a very good ISO seal. Just to give an example I set maximum ISO to 400 and it is really rare to have to raise them. In short, unless you have professional needs, I would recommend it without any doubt.

nikon_z6iiNikon Z6 II

Pros: High ISO seal, intuitive menu, file quality, app, stabilizer

Cons: almost perfect machine, to want to find one I would say "important" dimensions for the ML concept

Opinion: First of all, I have to say that the Z6 II is my first digital after many decades of analog. Before taking the big step I studied a lot, I read your forum, I saw the machines in the store. I chose the ML concept first instead of DSLR because I understand that it is the future and because I already have three Reflex, albeit analog and my intention is not to replace them with digital but to support it. Then I chose Nikon for a fact wanting affective, because reading and hearing reviews in the end all the machines are more or less good and the users more or less all happy. I chosen the Z6II over the Z6 because it is still an evolution of an already excellent machine and the price difference has not fully designed me. Now that I'm finally getting there and I'm starting to get familiar with it, my considerations are as follows: Meanwhile the size, it's not a small car, it's bigger than my film SLRs and with 24-200 it's a lot of stuff, if you go around the city you can see it from afar and in the pocket of the jacket there is not even the only body, but I knew this having fiddled in the store with a Z6. I mean, if you want an ML because it's up to you the possibility of a machine in one hand, you buy an APSC or a micro 4/3. Then something that struck me, going from full manual analog to a Z6 II, impressed me with the ease of use, very easy menu, customizable settings with extreme ease and a very detailed manual (in English). The Z6 II takes fantastic photos, churns out JPG that need minimum PP has an excellent hold at very high ISOs and is stabilized in a way that I come from paleozoic film seems incredible. I have the impression that autofocus sometimes struggles a little under certain conditions, but I do not rule out the possibility that this is due to the fact that I still cannot use the multiple possibilities of using the function. In short, in summary, a machine that seems perfect to a paleozoic like me! Unique limit or rather unique awareness to have, the dimensions do not fit with the concept of handling and compactness of ml.
