![]() | Sony A1 Pros: AF, Resolution, FPS Cons: Ergonomics Opinion: I recently bought this camera and whipped it on a trip to Sardinia. The AF is really performing, but it is necessary to look at different tutorials (better the US ones), in order to understand the different possible calibrations and be able to choose (trying) those that best suit our needs and preferences. I have read many reviews where it says that "the AF of the A1 is never wrong and if the photos are not in focus it is the photographer's fault". That is not true; the system is not free from defects. Whenever the subject is not adequately contrasted, or does not occupy a significant portion of the frame, several shots are lost. Beware of using the eye option. Some birds do not allow the AF to detect the detail. Better to dedicate a button to the insertion / disarming so as not to slow down the focus. Tracking should be used, in my opinion, (and dedicating a special button), only after having the subject, even in motion, in focus. Starting the focus with the tracking activated, could in case of problems, lose the whole sequence of images. I follow the subject with the classic system; when I am sure of the capture, I press the AF Track button and magically the System continues to follow it. Once you use the "precautions" set out above, the System is monstrous. The acquired subject is not lost even in extreme situations. I took shots of the Grillai in random movement very fast and I did not have the slightest problem. The files are excellent and infinitely workable. Exceptional laying latitude. The 50 mgp make themselves felt and allow a considerable level of crop. The monitor, personally, I consider it at a high level for the shot, but not for the vision of the photos. It is not easy to understand the real result. Better to use the external monitor which, in any case, is not at the level of the non-mirrorless Canon in my possession. Ergonomics improve with the BG but remains not great. The space between the lens and the handle is too small and annoying with the use of gloves (I have small fingers!). The keys are small in size and, in the agitated phases in which some parameters need to be changed, they may cause important errors. In summary, I believe that the perfect camera does not exist. The Sony A1 represents a generational leap, the best I've ever used. Some flaws could be eliminated, but others are part of a design choice of Sony and therefore will remain where they are. sent on April 20, 2022 |
![]() | Sony A9 Pros: Autofocus, shooting speed and Raw management Cons: Ergonomics (especially without battery grip), menu Opinion: I'm a canon. I bought the A9 and I have to say it's a really special camera. MENU: complicated, not logical, but the level of customization that allows you to "build" is truly incredible. AUTOFOCUS: I squeezed it for 30 days intensely (although I didn't post the pictures). Everyone talks about it in an incredible way; It is, with some limitation that it is correct to emphasize. The chase does not work properly when it has to operate in difficult conditions of light, contrast and with a large number of disturbing objects (e.g. classic birds within a forest). Animal eye detection works only for a few and is greatly deceived by the filtering light inside branches and reeds (I preferred to unplug it). In the open field everything works exceptionally well. I think it is essential that those who buy this camera, read the Sony manual, watch the tutorials (especially American photonaturalists), properly customize the object and carry out n tests to become familiar with the instrument. Compared to the Canon autofocus, it's like talking about two different worlds; Setting the autofocus menus of the 1Dx mark ii with its 6 cases and tens of sub cases, does not allow, even to a professional, even vaguely to approach the performance of the Sony A9. MIRINO: I think it's a matter of taste. I prefer the opticikey; more precise in understanding when the subject is in focus. In the case of Sony, "you have to trust yourself a little" (but it almost never gets wrong). The non-darking during the shooting phase is, for action photography, something to try; to keep the subject in the frame and to react quickly to any trajectory changes. ISO: Personally I find the A9 in line with the competition. I have limited the range to 6400. The resulting files allow you to be treated with Topaz, for example, quickly and with excellent results. POSA LATITITY: excellent. I think it is important to point out that inside the viewfinder there is a stylized histogram that allows you to properly balance the highlights and shadows, before the shot. SENSORE: Beware of lens replacement, especially with a hot sensor. Since there is no protection (mirror...) it becomes a vacuum cleaner for dirt. ERGONOMIA: The camera is too small. It is necessary to buy battery grip (also indispensable to increase the number of shots, especially in the intense cold). Last mention I have to reserve it at 100-400 Sony. An excellent goal, in my opinion, superior to the Canon in speed and yield. Less in zoom management. I also had the chance to try the 600 f4. Exceptional, but at a really important price. sent on January 21, 2020 |
![]() | Canon 5D Mark IV Pros: Resolution, autofocus and latitude of laying Cons: Number of shots per second Opinion: Bought recently to replace my beloved Mark III. There are no major differences in the layout of the keys, so "the feeling is immediate". The resolution is really perceptible, really creating a furrow from the previous model. Very comfortable the touch menu that instantly allows you to enlarge the photo just taken and understand any errors. The laying latitude has improved and the Esposimebtro is quite precise (+/-1/3 stop must be almost always correct). I have thought a lot about whether these differences are so important to justify the purchase by the owners of the Mark III. I think so for the resolution connoisseurs and proper monitor holders. The autofocus is very high performance (not like the Dx Mark Io), but 2 or 3 more FPS would have made it almost perfect. sent on June 09, 2018 |
![]() | Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM II Pros: Versatility, speed Af Cons: Brightness and support for gantry partially fissorn Opinion: I recently purchased this point, but I've used it in several situazioni.rnPremetto I own both the 70/200 2.8 (ii) and 300 2.8 (ii). rnrnLa made, in all lighting conditions is really high and versatility has not paragoni.rnrnIl 70/200, I consider it a lens can not be substituted for "landscapes with special" and for portraits. Its definition is awkward and well above 100 / 400.rnrnColoro them be photographed animals not shed, this is the best you can find. Fast autofocus, precision and detail, are its best features. rnrnL'unico drawback I found is obviously the brightness, if you were to take pictures in low light conditions. The diaphragm usage imposes iso too high for fast-moving subjects. rnrnHo tried to down the previous version and have had for a long time the new 400 5.6.rnIl 100/400 100/400 is superior to the very poor and old to the magical 400 5.6.rnrnRitengo very importantand emphasize that the fine tuning autofocus (homemade or Room Service) is considered essential to this level objectives. RNLA precision in detail is found only when there is full compatibility between the machine and the obiettivo.rnrn sent on December 31, 2016 |
![]() | Canon 1DX Mark II Pros: Autofocus, burst, exposure Cons: Number of shots without slowing less than the declared Opinion: I used the machine for the first time, completely, in my recent trip to Finland. I possessed the "old" 1Dx and I must say that the breakthrough is significant. The more frames per second help, but is the buffer that has changed, allowing to be able to take more, or to commence a few tenths of a second before. The calibration of the cases (1-6) is important and allows to exploit all the potential autofocus or, otherwise, to err a photograph, also in a remarkable way. We need to try different subjects with different movements, trying to rebuild a real case studies and own (this is my personal experience). The new Dx, unlike the previous one, captures the subject more easily and holds it in focus for a more prolonged period of time. Its sensitivity is much higher in the case of low light conditions. RNLA quality of frames is virtually identical to that of the 5D mark ii,while with the previous noticeable a difference in terms qualitativi.rnL'esposimetro is much more reliable and accurate. I happened previously, several times, which were read incorrectly high luci.rnrnUnico neo (from the declared) is the actual number of usable shots. The house writes "170" in raw. Very true, but not at 14 fps. Exact speed varies depending on the weight of the frame and the af mode used. In any case we are talking of embarrassing numbers in normal utilizzo.rn sent on July 04, 2016 |
![]() | Canon EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS II USM Pros: Sharpness, contrast, blur Cons: nobody Opinion: I purchased the lens about a year ago and it is the lens that more use, even if I have the 500, always ii series. And 'light, versatile and high performance with the 1.4 extender. Personally, I think the 2x should be used only in an emergency and not for the photographic hunting of the airborne side. The sharpness remains high, but the speed is reduced, in my opinion, greatly. The sharpness reaches such high levels by having to limit the detail in post production. I projected some images, using a 55-inch OLED TV and the definition remains awkward. No loss. Council to make the optics microtaratura to take advantage of all the features it has. The autofocus is very fast and very quiet, which is crucial for you then very close subjects, from the shed. I owned the previous version, and I sold it because the yield, especially with the extender, was not excellent. The weight and volume content, permettonor go around the world, with a baggage really "light" and versatile. Highly recommended. sent on April 15, 2016 |
![]() | Wimberley WH-200 Pros: Fluidity of movement - Robustness Cons: Nobody Opinion: I tried a varied number of rocker heads and nothing has convinced me up. The nature photographers spend a lot of time outside with great weather excursions. The Wimberley undergoes no decrease of fluidity, even with temperatures of 20 degrees below zero. No maintenance is required and the mechanisms are well protected by seals which prevent dirt from entering. The use with the 300 and the 500 f2.8 f4 (both series ii) with its extender. Highly recommended. sent on March 25, 2016 |
