![]() | Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Pros: The bokeh of this lens is impressive, it is the master bokeh, sharpness already at f1.4 if I close to f1.8 it becomes a blade, AF speed, robustness of the materials and their quality: it is a lens that lasts in short Cons: Maybe the weight and size? But it's all glass. Ah, difficult to carry it in a backpack, as it is abnormal and difficult to store in one of the latter. Opinion: It's one of my best lenses, I've had it for two years, I've had it out of order for about 6 months (due to a breakdown at a party, I got liquid from a cocktail and the focus was ruined) and I missed it and not a little, the bokeh and sharpness of this lens are amazing, indeed, to scream! It makes you gasp. One of the dream lenses for a portraitist and die-hard of blur in his portraits, I tried the 85mm a bit but when you try this one I'm sorry the other fixed lenses are toys, a robustness and materials of excellent workmanship, like all the Art series on the other hand, a photographic quality and engraving of details, textures etc. truly stunning, I've been using it for years, almost more than two and it has never disappointed me, it's a magical lens, it gives you fairytale portraits, a poetic blur and creates an incredible texture behind the subject. I think we can't add more about this beast, the cost? It is obviously made of glass and the 1200€ / 1400€ it costs is worth it all. Obviously I used it initially on my 5DMark IV and now on my Canon 1DX Mark II and every tadpole I use really gives me satisfaction. sent on March 03, 2025 |
![]() | Canon 1DX Mark II Pros: Well, a sturdy body, resistance to all kinds of weather, dust etc., shooting at 14FPS (a monster), performance at high ISO truly exceptional, at 10,000 ISO I don't see grain, absurd, with this I'm not even afraid to raise them. Exceptional AF setting, an excellent viewfinder, very reliable exposure meter, even at 1 single AF Point and does not miss a shot, obviously in similar LV but it does not have the Servo AF (in video of course we would miss it: it has it and the focus is hallucinating, it also follows faces well). Cons: The focus I don't serve in live view, they could put it being that the younger sister 5D M4 has it, however it is not a big limit, oh well non-articulated display that can be a limit to make some shots, the display a little below the 5D M4 (boh, no sense, perhaps because it came out earlier), more than anything else to have a faithful view of the shot already from the monitor it has, which for heaven's sake is defined and is great, but the 5D has a monitor a little better, I have both. No WiFi, but it can fit, GPS obviously present. The sensor must be cleaned regularly, alas, it gets dirty after 5/6 months of intensive use. Opinion: I bought it by reselling the R6 Mark II (it seemed like a toy in comparison) and then for 1950 euros [with barely 70,000 shots] that I paid for it with a free drum kit (not new, but oh well, for what they last) from CS in Rome, it was always my dream as an amateur a body like this, an embarrassing speed and reliability as scary as it is, The R6 has 12 mechanical FPS (2022) the 1DX 14 (2016) and years later it defends itself well with the majority of mirrorless cameras on the market, the RAW file is literally mistreated, you can recover the good of god. The quality of detail, despite the 20.2 MP is embarrassing in comparison to the lady 5D Mark IV that I already own, the 1DX M2 came out in early 2016, the 5D almost the third half of that year. The focus, reliability and brightness of the viewfinder is hallucinating, a magnesium alloy body in all respects, if the 5D could already be mistreated this guy resists everything, weather, salt, dust, rain. Obviously I try to make this happen to me as little as possible, but during some football matches, I had to work in difficult conditions between wind and rain and despite my fear I was still serene, less for the optics, a 70-200 Sigma Sport, but okay. sent on February 28, 2025 |
![]() | Canon 5D Mark IV Pros: Autofocus: it is one of the best performing ever seen, it doesn't miss one, speed in LV (thanks to the DualPixel CMOS AF and despite being a 2016 reflex), MAF points, 61 cross-type points. Shooting speed at 7FPS more than acceptable for all uses and let's remember that this little beast is from 2016. To tell the truth, and it surprised me, it holds up like god the high ISO, and I disabled any correction in the machine to have it more performing and have less interventions on the ISP side, to make you understand up to 16,000 ISO the files are really usable and with a little AI denoise you really throw everything back. From serious noise problems after 16,0000, and up to 6400 / 8000 the files are really clean, at 10,000 they are really acceptable (in my opinion, then everyone can be pleasant or not or annoying or not), but it holds up well, for a 30MP, at high ISO. The quality / dynamic range of the RAW files is impressive, you can recreate everything and more, a FF sensor of about 31MP, in my opinion the top for photography of all kinds and allows you to do even considerable crops, excellent JPEGs. A viewfinder that covers 100% of the sensor. A flagship robustness, despite being mistreated (so to speak) it has survived everything, rain, bad weather and heat and cold and temperature changes. I mainly do portraiture and it is unquestionably the best reflex ever released by Canon, I also tried the Mark III and the reliability of the monitor and LV are not the same at all) and not to say, it has GPS in the camera, it is no longer seen in any canon mirrorless (I think) and it is a significant plus. Useful for geotagging each shot to organize it in LR if needed: I have used it little, but in my opinion professionally it can be useful especially for landscape architects and professionals where geotagging is required, for example analysis or repertoires (such as excavations, various documentaries etc.). Cons: Some votes it fizzes in live view, so much so that the battery is removed and put back and resets to the last settings before activating the LV, never solved and they tell me that it is a software problem since I am not the first one to whom it happens, even from Canon assistance. Support only for SD UHS I and not II, slightly more detailed DP RAW files and maybe even the dynamic range is slightly better, I haven't done any in-depth analysis to understand more, but it seems that the highlights are more easily retrievable than the standard RAW (I don't know it's a con, but since they weigh twice as much I put it here). The AF points don't cover the entire sensor area (but in LV it resolves a bit). Opinion: I bought it after the Canon 6D, the best camera I have owned so far, the Canon paste is really a plus for those who do portraiture and fashion like me, one of the best reflex cameras in the Canon house, it can compete with many MRs also regarding the dynamic range, sensor etc. As an owner of the R6 mark II (bought very recently) I can say that the colors of the latter are not pleasant with this 5D, in fact maybe I would have preferred the R5, we'll see. On the AF side it is hallucinating, both in LV and selective MF, with 61 points (unfortunately not on the whole sensor, but nothing really alarming, you focus on any subject, even in low light. I have also shot at high ISO, like 6400 and 8,000 ISO and really the files that hunt are scary, I use them with the flash to expand the dynamic range of the image precisely to see the lights better etc, and the detail is really excellent. One of the cameras that have given me the most satisfaction ever. I could tell you everything, but I will update the review as I go, this jewel in my hands has turned almost 3 years old and has given me record-breaking photographs. sent on August 29, 2024 |
![]() | Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Pros: The best 50mm on the market, frightening sharpness already at F1.4, quality of the final photo, wonderful bokeh, heavy lens (it is the quality that returns justifies the 800g or so), you fall in love with it to such an extent that you do not disassemble it anymore, but as indeed the whole series of fixed Art makes you fall in love. Cons: Maybe the Microcontrast, but my photographs in Post-Production helps me not to have it. I am not a lover of natural colors and super shot. I love it as it is. It has almost no flaws, sometimes perhaps it does not hook in the dark, but it is rare. I lost fire very rare times. Considering I had a 6D Mark I (the very first 6D, which certainly wasn't lightning to focus). Opinion: History of my 50mm: Yognuo 50mm f1.8 > Canon 50mm F1.8 STM > Canon 50mm F.1.4 USM > Sigma Art 50mm F1.4 | The quality of the files has changed dramatically throughout (detail, color gamut, sharpness, the WOW effect with each shot). Chromatic Aberrations do not even exist at TA, the detail already at TA is scary! I have no words of how much I am verifying the quality of every Sigma Art I have tried/owned, including the magnificent 105mm F1.4. Of course they are heavy, on this there is no doubt, the micro-contrast, asserte, or does not exist almost at all, but see it, indeed, as a merit, the flat photos in post you can work better: the experience is similar already happens with the LOG or FLAT files, in the camera I already set all FLAT (settings without any emphasis in the Canon parameters) so that I have in post production a greater range of editing. As it happens, in fact, in the LOG files for the video format, the files must be colored, or almost, even if here it is simpler because it is not really a flat, but already has a clearer chromatism. When I go to use my presets in Photoshop RAW Camera or Lightroom Classic or Lightroom on iPad I realize how precious Sigma is in my Color Grading. What you can do with Canon lenses, but much more difficult to give a character that I look for in my shots. I have always loved the melancholic color, a little desaturated, pastel colors, and it is an active part of my current style and ways of post producing and coloring each of my photographs. I love what Sigma Art hunts naturally, without slow defects, aberrations, the flat color science of Sigma and it is what makes it unique and I do not consider it a defect, but a merit for me. Although sometimes it may happen that it does not focus, but it is also the fault of my old and beloved EOS 6D, with the 5D Mark IV it is really difficult not to focus if not in very poor light. But the Sigma on its part is fast, precise and if the fire hooks I challenge you to compete with other L series lenses (EF non RF) of Canon fixed. l 50mm F1.2L USM tested, and 1.4 is not as sharp as the Sigma, although it is a 1.2L (we compare that at TA, the files at f1.2 are pasty and the sharpness loses especially on the edges. The Sigma, despite being an F1.4 is a hypercorrect optics, with many groups of correction lenses and this also justifies the comparison of the actual light that arrives at the sensor which is as if it were compared to a focal length of an F1.6 (F1.5 sometimes) the lenses are slow and have a certain resistance to light. Explained why the much-criticized micro contrast is also missing, Canon 50mm lenses have 1/3 of the lenses, Sigma have those lenses because the engineering of those lenses is perfect, but like all lenses they have defects that can please or displease. But we do not blame dear Sigma, but physics (which is not a human cause, there is a limit to physics) and if you want such a perfect lens you will not have it in other Canon lenses. The Sony G Master series is very similar, but it's Sony, another story, another planet. sent on February 28, 2022 |
