Canon 20D Pros: Solid, ergonomic and easy to use. A real school camera Cons: Nothing, considering that it refers to a 20-year-old technology Opinion: My first DSLR, robust and reliable, simple to use; In fact, I still own it and it's still working, even if it's unused. "Spartan" reflex, produced 20 years ago and therefore don't expect automatisms and frills of any kind: the 20D forces you to an almost analog approach in its use. For this reason, I consider it an excellent "school camera", for those approaching the world of photography, to start shooting and practice without breaking the bank. In my opinion, once you have learned how to use it thoroughly, you can compare yourself with any superior model. Of course, the 8.2 Mpx are not many and today they could be endearing, but this must lead us to frame well and avoid exasperated crops. Raw files are still good and light. The ISO seal in principle should not exceed 800, with higher values it appears conspicuous grain; unless you intend to obtain it in a targeted way, perhaps to compose suggestive photos in B/W or with a slightly retro taste. Limited autofocus but that must be compared to its time, on the other hand a good burst for the time. Very small LCD rear screen, from which you can't tell the quality of the shot taken (but this was also a prerogative of the first 1D series). In short, a historical forerunner of the APS C and semi-PRO digital series, but which still today, with the right optics and the right exposure (and above all with the right eye) churns out beautiful and surprising photos. sent on February 23, 2024 |
Canon 5D Mark III Pros: Considering that it was produced 12 years ago, I would say everything... Cons: Considering that it was produced 12 years ago, I would say nothing... Opinion: I state that I have been using the 5D Mk3 for about 10 years, mainly for sports photos, concerts or reportage and that I own other reflex cameras. Tested in the field, considering its age, it really has few rivals. It is a very modern camera, ergonomic in its handling and versatile, very solid as befits a professional body. With the right optics and expertise, you can tackle all photographic genres, without envying anything to new generation cameras. It has an outstanding sensor, which produces workable and light files, with nice creamy colors. It allows you to shoot even in critical light conditions, with ISO you can easily go to 3200 without particular deterioration. He takes home the result with dignity. Fast autofocus in locking on to the subject and fast enough in bursts. Like all PRO and FF cameras, the 5d Mk3 is at its best with professional, bright and quality optics. In short, a camera that may be "dated" for some, but which in my opinion still has its say in the photographic field. Whether professional or amateur photographer, it is made for those who love to shoot with the heart and are not prey to marketing. sent on February 23, 2024 |
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM Pros: Sharpness, colors, solidity. Simply put, a must! Cons: I would say nothing at all... Maybe don't have it! Opinion: I think there is no need to add too many words for a perspective that is now the history of the Canon brand and about which everything and more has already been said. I assume the best 70-200 ever and certainly the longest-lived, since it went out of production just a year ago. It is certainly no coincidence that the Japanese company has been producing it for about 30 years, practically at the same time as the evolved and stabilized versions. It has to be tested in the field and only then do you realize the quality, reliability and versatility of the optics. Very sharp, very fast AF and spectacular color rendering, I have used it with great satisfaction in the field of sports and reportage photography, but it can have its say in almost any photographic genre and I think it should not be missing in the kit of the Pro or the advanced amateur photographer, especially since it is often found at attractive prices in the second-hand market. I preferred the "smooth" version to the stabilized one (which seems to be slightly superior in terms of sharpness) as it does not have any particular needs and is still an extra electronic component, which over time may need assistance. Anyone who says it's heavy better turn to the ML, considering that this is a nice metal barrel, compact and indestructible. I'm fine with it and it's very balanced even for handheld use, at most with a nice monopod for long sessions. The new evolutions have obviously considerably improved the already high standard, but for what is my photography, it fully satisfies me. sent on December 24, 2023 |
