canon_5d_mark_ivCanon 5D Mark IV

Pros: Solidity of construction, reliability, in general sharpness of raw files

Cons: It accentuates too much the shadows that are often difficult to recover, churns out anonymous raw files, not at all incisive and devoid of bite.

Opinion: I have owned the Canon 5D Mark IV for three years and I can say that I know it well enough to be able to make a judgment. I use it, as needed, to the following lenses: Canon 24-70 f/2.8; Canon 70-200 f/4; Tamron 15-30 f/2.8; Sigma 50 f/1.4. I observe that in landscape use it greatly accentuates the shadows, for example of the undergrowth, and at the same time increases the brightness of the light subjects. This requires quite a challenging recovery with Photoshop to make the chiaroscuro homogeneous. Sometimes, in these cases, the recovery takes place only partially and in particular the lightened shadows lose their original chromaticism, assuming unusual color. Once the shadows have been arranged in some way, I have to intervene with a contrast mask to revive the image, and give body to the colors by acting on saturation. So it gives the best of itself in the photography of subjects with homogeneous brightness or little contrast, such as inside museums and art galleries. In these cases the results obtained were in accordance with expectations because I got some really nice raw files, only with some slight adjustments. To sum up: in general positive judgment but requires considerable retouching. Rating: 7.
