![]() | Canon EF 400mm f/5.6 L USM Pros: Compact and lightweight, affordable cost, sharpness in non-megapixellate FF, construction and robustness. Cons: AF not very performing in action photo, lack of stabilizer, minimum distance of mf that limits its use Opinion: I had it for many years and often used it in alternation with more performing optics. Its main skills are handling and the very affordable price. The image is good /excellent especially in FF, it works well also at TA, men suitable for the APSC. The AF is dated, especially in pursuit, even on recent machine bodies. On the other hand, it is a '993 objective' and I do not know that it has ever been updated. For what it costs, I think it's a bargain. sent on June 20, 2020 |
![]() | Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Pros: Price, lightness, versatility. Cons: Construction kinda weak, the movement of the front optical group did not give me feeling of reliability. Made at the edges on FF, especially at short focal lengths. Lens hood to buy aside. Opinion: As I summed up between the pros and cons, it didn't convince me. I immediately changed it with the 24-70 F4L, which has less focal but optically-based excursion on FF, I use it on 5dmarkiv, and as overall construction is decidedly superior. Although for the videos the 24-70 is not perfect, as it has the problem of focal variation in the focus steps from near to far. For photos This is not a problem. sent on October 31, 2018 |
![]() | Panasonic G7 Pros: Lightweight and small, but handy and well-constructed. Fully swivel and touch screen. Battery life. Many function keys to bypass the menus. Great videos, is its strong point. Raw Images Good enough, which develops with RawTherapee. Cons: It has no stabilizer. Accustomed to the optical viewfinder of the reflexes. The electronic one does not make me crazy and in the G7 it's really not very bright and in the outside with the sun it's almost useless. While it would be indispensable when turning or jogging with manual mf. At the current price it is worth spending, though with the added 250 euro maybe the G80, which is tropicalized, has the stabilizer, it does not have the antialiasing filter and, apparently, a slightly better file for the images Opinion: VIDEO section: I got that for it, and especially to use it with the Canon L telephoto lenses, where I use the 2x magnification factor and to have a second 4k video body. The quality of video in both FHD and 4K is not far from Canon's 5D mark IV and clearly better in FHD than the 7D mark II. However, the two Canon have the AF Dual Pixel, which for video, especially long canvases, is decisive. To fit it I bought the Metabones Smart Adapter (lensless) that communicates the Canon lens with the G7 and keeps me 2x. The only unsatisfying aspect is autofocus, absolutely unreliable for both video and image. Excellent manual focusing, meticulous view control, optic stabilizer works and exposure data are transmitted to the machine body and controllable.rn PHOTO section: Use in Raw and consider the sensor size I have nothing to complain about , The only problem is, of course, the grain. Preferibilmen clickYou, for my needs, 100 or 200 iso. Above all, I could fit my old Canon FD, which I use in manual focus, and make a selection of those valid or not. With the Canon EF L lenses, the G7 has a remarkable effect even for photos, but for use in manual mf. As an "original" optic I only have the 14-42 3.5-5.6 kit, which surely is worth the price for its versatility and sharpness, but with a lot of distortion to the shorter and less luminous focal lengths. The AF is good for static subjects, enough for tracking. sent on June 04, 2017 |
