![]() | Canon 30D Pros: Magnesium body, excellent ergonomics, very large photodiodes, very light files, color profiles all usable, excellent jpg, low cost, robustness, battery life, photographic performance, fast autofocus Cons: A few notes on the display, not always with accurate color Opinion: Among the reflex cameras, despite its age, it is among the best built, it has an ergonomics that make you feel immediately at ease, excellent grip and manageability despite, or perhaps even, for the weight, not low, but not excessive either. Solid handle, with all controls easily accessible and rationally distributed. The viewfinder is not very large but it is bright and allows you to see all the shooting parameters; It never leaves you disappointed, as it is still an appreciable pentaprisma. Despite its age, it has a rather fast autofocus and is, above all, accurate. The eight megapixels don't make you want more resolution as they are good, at least for the most widely used sampa formats and beyond. It has a respectable dynamic range as it is based on rather large photodiodes; Even at high ISO the noise is almost always acceptable and of good texture. It is good, however, not to exceed 1600iso, although a good exposure produces photos that can be used excellently even at iso 3200. The exposition, whatever the method adopted, is always quite accurate. It is capable of producing photos very similar to the eos 5d, which is still considered one of the best cameras produced by Canon. It also has a good built-in flash, which is smooth and well-balanced. At the first grip you immediately feel that it is a semi-pro, different from plasticky and creaky entry level cameras. Although it can be used simply as a point-and-shoot, it has a configurability that can be profitably exploited even in the professional field. All this as long as you don't hope for video capabilities, wirelees and other modern features, which, however, rarely interest a true photography lover. sent on May 25, 2024 |
![]() | Pentax K20D Pros: Professional body, every button is in the right place, excellent viewfinder, ergonomics and a photographic performance that exceeds all expectations, better than many much newer cameras. Cons: Rather slow flurry for sporting events, but more than enough in family or ceremonial settings. Opinion: Aesthetically beautiful, it weighs just the right amount, it is watertight, all the necessary information is visible in the display, in the viewfinder and in the LCD, to keep every parameter under control. It has a sensor that, especially at low iso, is of exemplary pleasantness and fidelity. At high iso it has a nice grain that does not disturb up to 1600 iso. If used in RAW, with a little patience you can go even further, otherwise just use the flash. The JPG has a sharper sharpness than other machines with a much higher cost. Accurate and fast autofocus in good light, in low light conditions the flash pre-flash can be triggered. Excellent for use with manual or vintage lenses, it does not make you regret film cameras, it provides optimal exposure even in manual. The viewfinder is bright and accurate, allowing for perfect MAF. A machine that will always be valid even in many years. Those who have it, keep it dearly! I've also had a K-r, K7, K5 and K30, but the most balanced, I won't say the best, is the k20. It's also a great camera to learn at compact prices. sent on February 27, 2024 |

![]() | Nikon D3000 Pros: Good image quality, lightweight and ergonomic body, latest generation CCD sensor Cons: For those who just want to take good photos: None! Opinion: For most of the photos you do not need the live view, I can still do without it. Then those who love photography, do not even realize that the D3000 does not make videos and, in any case, for videos, it is often better to resort to a mirrorless or even a mobile phone instead of a SLR, unless it is one of the last generations. High myth to dispel is the poor resistance to high ISO of the D3000; it simply has a low noise correction algorithm, so the photos, although affected by noise, remain full of details and pleasing to the eye (thanks to the CCD!). In this regard, I note, in fact, that with a simple and little correction in post-production, you can get photos practically smooth and similar to those of much more modern and more expensive machines. This means that the sensor has an excellent exposure latitude and therefore a good seal at high ISO, contrary to what you often hear around! The fact is that those who use a camera of this type, hardly resort to corrections a posteriori with photo editing programs. It is enough, however, to try to believe and you can easily detect that it is, instead, a very performing camera. sent on July 10, 2023 |
![]() | Nikon D50 Pros: It makes beautiful photos, is easy for newbies but has all the necessary controls for the more experienced. Cons: Nobody Opinion: I have owned and own several Nikon: D40, D60, D80, D90, ... D7200 and many others, of different brands, including some mirrorless and many advanced compacts. But which one is the best? Clearly the most recent, it is useless to reiterate. But then why do I insist on using, and do you think that I started photographing since 1970!!, old glories like the D40 or the D50, Pentax k-r ..?. Simply because, despite having an eye accustomed, in the end, if I take two prints at random and put them close, I can hardly distinguish, at magnification not higher than A4, with which camera it was taken! In fact, sometimes I recognize more the yield of the CCD and the thin grain, similar to film, to which I was accustomed a few centuries ago and which I still like. Therefore, despite being someone who buys and sells in an almost compulsive way, looking for the best for me, I still keep close cameras like the D50, with which I still feel a real pleasure to use. Of course I photograph for passion and at an amateur level, otherwise it would be if I were a professional photographer! But even in that case the search for Megapixels, the lens of great brightness ... and so on and so forth, beyond limits, easily reached even by "obsolete" cameras, ... they are all mental nonsense, of great emotional impact but of little practical use!! sent on June 06, 2023 |
