Fieldscope

Yesterday i was in the field and came across a guy who had a Canon Fieldscope for watching birds. I did take a look trough the fieldscope and i was surprised with the view and result.
What a great experience, nice colours and great sharpness!
Now i'm thinking about to buy one but what are the pro's and con's for a fieldscope?
I've seen some from Swarovski but that's over my budget. Are there cheaper alternatives available?
