sony_a7r_vSony A7r V

Pros: Crazy ergonomics, AF+AI, EVF, Monitor, stabilization, dynamic range even in low lights, shutter closed when changing lenses

Cons: Battery life, burst, buffer, very marked rolling shutter

Opinion: Coming from the 7R-IV I immediately found a general improvement, both physical, between keys, ergonomics, fantastic tropicalization even in the rain (even if first of all you have to prevent and take care of your kit). It has as usual a fantastic dynamic range improved compared to the R4 even in difficult light conditions. The improvement of the IBIS from 5 stops to 7-5/8 is felt especially in photographic hunting coupled with the Sony 200-600. Finally they have added via software the shutter closure to machine spend, to be activated in the machine settings though. I found the menu much better organized and I learned to move in 2 hours. (It is certainly very articulate and with ridiculous translations, so I keep it in English). Once set with its own parameters, this machine is a real weapon. The auto focus coupled with the AI is deadly (I decided to upgrade from the R4 for this reason alone) but if you don't shoot birdlife but only portrait, landscape and you don't have the budget I recommend the previous version in the same way. A sore point in my opinion is the battery life much shorter than the R4 and the burst has not changed. Soon I will get the competing CFs and I will try the difference with the SD tough V90 that I currently mount. At high ISO I find it a little improved but with such a dense sensor you can't expect total perfection. Anyway, the upgrade was worth it

sony_a7r_ivSony A7r IV

Pros: AF, Impressive image quality, Dynamic range, Better stabilization than R3, Improved ergonomics including joystick, Weather sealing

Cons: Heavy files, high ISO maintenance not optimal, Monitor, AF Wildlife tracking not very accurate

Opinion: Coming from the younger sister Sony A7RIII, I found small general improvements, both physical on the body, and software such as the much improved AF on the human eye lock. The biggest difference for which I chose to upgrade was for the sensor which is monstrous, both for image quality and for dynamic range and shadow and highlight recovery, in case you made a mistake in setting some parameters before shooting (here Sony predominates over most six competing FF sensors). Ability to crop drastically in posts is a MUST. The viewfinder offers greater optical performance and given the greater number of focus points, making a mistake in the static shot or with slow movements is unlikely. Conversely, with fast-moving subjects, in non-optimal light conditions, often the subject remains out of focus 4-5/10 shots (yes there are A1, A9 and blah blah) but being still an all-rounder photographic camera, my considerations cover the entire photographic range. With the correct light conditions, however, it excels, but not in the gust. Then the usual solfa about the non-articulated monitor, the complicated menus etc make it identical to the other Sonys of the past. I have often used it in the rain in parks, woods, mountains, sea in all kinds of weather conditions with strong wind, consistent rain and it has never missed a beat. Summing up, I am fully satisfied to have had it with me for 3 years, as far as the photographic performance and the sensor coupled with the GMs are concerned, you will not be wrong. I still recommend it for those who do portraits and landscapes and can't spend on a VR that I currently use (which in my opinion is the game changer compared to the RIII)

sony_a7r_iiiSony A7r III

Pros: weight, compactness, image quality, AF, dynamic range

Cons: High ISO sealing, Menu

Opinion: It was back in 2018 when I made the transition from the SLT A58 APS-C to full-frame mirrorless. I have loved it since day 1 and I have always found it revolutionary for its characteristics. Sony's complex menus to date are a sore point and that in this camera body made me tribulate taking several months to learn and memorize all the settings, but the fact of having multiple profiles for the customization options of photographic styles is fantastic. Compared to the current RV, A1II and 9III the AF is ridiculous and primitive, but it was a great innovation even without AI and I have always been happy with it even in birdlife (6/10 shots had the subject well in focus). Single AF, on the other hand, has always had problems with locking and delay. Given the 43mpx at high ISO it suffered quite a bit (as a RIV and RV owner the RIII given the 43 mpx against 61 held better), even if coupling it with the 24GM for astrophotography I have always obtained very balanced and impactful results having an impressive dynamic range. The battery in stress test situations always arrived at the end of the day with at least 10% remaining. Speaking of ergonomics, shape and weight I found myself in it immediately, except for the little finger having big hands I would have preferred more grip. Drawing conclusions, it is a machine that I have exploited to the bone, in all weather conditions, from the street when I lived in Canada to the landscape, asto and fauna. If the right opportunity came my way, I would buy it again as a third camera body to keep for fun

samyang_af85_f1-4iiSamyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE II

Pros: AF, sharpness, speed, overall image quality, bokeh

Cons: chromatic aberrations, focus breathing, color gamut

Opinion: Third-party portrait lens accessible economically, but which gives excellent image rendering especially with Sony's "R" series. On average, personally 9/10 shots are in focus and have a very high sharpness in the center and very acceptable at the edges, distortions are almost absent. The bokeh is scary and contours the subject very well making the image very mellow and the subject well incorporated. In difficult light conditions it suffers with crom aberrations and even a bit of flare, but all of which can be solved in post. I personally also use it when I do landscapes with the R5 to push more on a detail and then cropping the 61 mpx in post give me unique images. The only aspect I don't like is the chromatic side which in my opinion is not natural but cold and based on the ambient light, it often tends to greenish or sometimes too much to magenta, but I also correct this in post. Anyway, I highly recommend trying it, especially if you can't buy a "GM" or an "ART". Many compared shots are indistinguishable from their older sisters

sony_fe24_f1-4Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM

Pros: Compact, lightweight yet robust, AF, sharpness, image quality

Cons: nothing

Opinion: It was my first GM lens alongside the Sony 7RIII. I have taken street shots, landscapes, portraits with environment and close-ups, astro. It has a frightening versatility of use. I have always been amazed by its image quality both in high light conditions and in the absence of it. What to add, when traveling it takes up very little space and weighs little. A MUST HAVE always in your pocket that never disappoints you on occasion. The Aberration C is really minimal, the flares in some uncomfortable conditions occur, but not contained, correctable and in my opinion rare, an exceptional color rendering and I who shoot very often in B/W I am very satisfied. I have owned it since 2019 and I always carry it with me. Many say that it distorts in portraiture, but if you don't remember that it is a 24mm, then you have to learn to shoot at the right distance with it.

sony_fe200-600Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS

Pros: Stabilization, Quick AF, Sharpness, Blurred, Weather Seal, Price, Compactness

Cons: Weight, Expensive filter, Non-ARK foot, Cheap lens hood, Suffers from low ambient light

Opinion: Fantastic lens coupled with my evolution of the camera body. I'll start by describing its real downside, which is the loss of sharpness and mellowness in low light conditions, where its performance drops dramatically (it's not a GM). I would like to point out, however, that I have taken several shots with experience and a bit of denoise in the post I have taken home (here we touch on different topics including, shutter speeds, photographic experience, subject, Haze and what is sought without going beyond the limits of the optics which is "ALMOST" a prime lens for several characteristics but at the same time it is not for other factors). Over the years and the shots I have found a truly remarkable speed of focusing and in 90% of cases lightning fast both in Avi and in Fauna (always coupled to the Sony R from III-IV and V). It is characterized by a really high sharpness in the center, but also at the edges and quite good (sometimes a little soft depends on the conditions and the moment of shooting) I rate the hand-held stabilization very good and I begin to feel micro blur at about 1/80 - 1/100 even with a little wind. I solved the pin on the collar problem with a third party alternative (I don't understand Sony's policy at this juncture). As for the weight, I almost always shoot freehand and I perceive the effects only at the end of the day a little on my arms but nothing special. I highly recommend trying it with the right settings in the machine (fundamental) and in my opinion it will create addiction
