panasonic_s35f_1-8Panasonic Lumix S 35mm f/1.8

Pros: Dimensions, light, sharp, bright, bokeh, 67mm filters, great build quality, even if the material is a bit plasticky.

Cons: Price (high for a 35 1.8 but in line with Panasonic fixed lenses), it is not possible to use the focus ring with the lens hood inserted towards the camera.

Opinion: Honestly I don't understand why the rating of the 35mm is lower than the other Panasonic fixed lenses, I find it a splendid lens. 35mm razor-sharp already at 1.8 which, thanks also to the excellent focusing speed, makes it probably the most versatile fixed of the entire L mount lenses, potentially the only one you could ever need under 85mm. Given the price I would have preferred a few more controls on the barrel, maybe an aperture ring or a customizable button, instead I have to settle for an AF/MF button and the focus ring (be careful, it becomes unusable with the lens hood facing the camera, so in the outputs you either use it outwards or don't bring it at all!) In general, however, I don't feel like giving a grade lower than 9

sigma_18-50_f2-8macroSigma AF 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro

Pros: Cost in Used, Focal Range, Constant 2.8, Weight, Macro

Cons: Construction, sharpness from f/4 down, slow and noisy, sometimes inaccurate autofocus. Unusable in low light.

Opinion: Taken to replace the 18-55 kit on my Canon 70D. For a novice photographer it is a good lens, especially if we consider the fact that you can now find even under 250, which for a standard 2.8 lens for aps-c is a great price. In addition, the size and weight are quite small. The strengths, however, end there. In my opinion, this is not a lens that can be used at a professional level due to the outdated, slow, noisy and inaccurate autofocus, especially in low light. Not very good sharpness below average apertures. The build isn't that of high-end lenses, and it doesn't feel like you're holding a particularly solid lens. The macro function is good and allows you to take home pretty photos.

canon_70dCanon 70D

Pros: Performance in relation to the price (it is easily found between 300 and 400 euros), autofocus, raw files, easy availability, optical park (although new ones are unlikely to come out), articulated screen

Cons: bad resistance high iso, virtually every function in live view, video in 1080p only 30fps

Opinion: Bought as a jump from the 2000D that I sold broken for 200 euros and with the same 200 euros I bought the 70D. Level jump of light years. Despite being a reflex of 10 years ago it can give excellent shots with an unexpected comfort. The viewfinder autofocus is very fast and accurate when used on contrast points even in low light. The problem with the light are the iso that already from 1000 begin to be seen. From 2000 upwards they are unusable professionally and from 6400 upwards they are to be thrown away. All in all it is a highly recommended camera both as a jump from new entries, and as a new entry itself.

yashica_50_f1-4Yashica ML 50mm f/1.4

Pros: Construction, size, blurred, good sharpness, brightness

Cons: A bit soft and vignettato at f/1.4, CA, weight (300gr approx.), full manual (like all vintage lenses)

Opinion: Bought used a few months ago on Ebay at 60 euros (shipping included) and adapted on my Eos 2000D before, and 70D after with a simple adapter ring found at 8 euros. I fell in love with it immediately, super bright, fantastic blurred, in general excellent performance. You need to have a minimum of experience with 100% manual lenses, it is definitely not made for fleeting shots, but for static subjects it is perfect, in particular I tried it on APS-C and in portraits it is phenomenal. The sharpness is good, although it is not its best quality, especially at f/1.4 where there is also some vignetting. Warm and fairly saturated colors, it suffers a bit from chromatic aberration in difficult light conditions. Minimum focus distance of 50cm, in line with most similar lenses, focus ring of about 180 °, a good compromise between speed and precision, aperture ring with apertures from 1.4 to 16 with clicks a little metallic but quite fluid. In general a great lens to take absolutely if found on 50 euros or below.
