![]() | Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Pros: A true L-series, very good images and colors, construction, internal zoom and very good AF Cons: Old project, not weather sealed and lack of tripod ring (remember it's a L series) Opinion: A lens with a strong personality, usable even at full aperture as I expect from a professional lens (obvious that I talk about portraits or fauna, certainly not for landscapes). As I do not expect from a professional lens lacks the tropicalization, at least stated. The 24/105 pass it for tropicalized, but with the zoom I would be careful to sand and similar, here the zoom and the Af are internal, it will be hard to put it ko. But the fact remains that it is not tropicalized. And there is also a handy accessory for a zoom like that, the tripod mount. For the rest is a very good goal, it is reasonably priced and does its job in an egregious way despite being a slightly outdated (and perhaps forgotten?) ![]() | Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Pros: Very good from F2, super autofocus Cons: Antiquated design, embarrassing lens hood, minimum distance of MAF Opinion: Defined par excellence the optics from portrait, it pulls out of the images nothing bad even to f 1.8, closing gives the best of itself. Autofocus is fast and accurate. Some chromatic aberration but nothing disastrous. Personally I do not like the surrender of the old USM canon, characterized by slightly cold colors, as opposed to the canon sensors that push a little more towards the warm colors (purely personal opinion). Let's not talk about the lens hood, please, uncomfortable and done on purpose to break at the first opportunity. As other Canon fixed the focus distance is nice long, we're almost at the meter away, so forget about details and close up with this lens. Also be careful not to stay too close otherwise nothing yellow dot fixed and no pictures. It's a project that Canon has been carrying on for almost 30 years, and canon is not worthy of upgrading the mid-range lenses like this, although it churns 4 SLR's per year in the consumer and semi Pro range, too bad. sent on January 20, 2019 |
![]() | Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Pros: Metal Bayonet, image quality Cons: Soft to TA, autofocus does not live up to the other STM Opinion: Used both on APS-C and on FF, it returns good images and has a nice fuzzy. Being a "cheap" lens do not use it at full aperture, unless you make a portrait centered and not be maniacs of sharpness, you will be disappointed. At F2 it already starts to give its best and pulls out a pretty good personality for a €100 lens. Good construction and metal bayonet. Not good autofocus. I do not understand how among the various STM there is a performance gap so obvious: the 18-55 is accurate, silent and instantaneous, the 24 is normal, the 50 is slow, there is little to do. Then as all fixed Canon has a distance of MAF slightly too long, you have to be careful in the portraits to not get too close. For the rest it is worth the money spent. sent on January 20, 2019 |
![]() | Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM Pros: Light, robust, good sharpness, fast AF, excellent value for money Cons: Ring nut MAF But for a pancake is not the end of the world Opinion: A sincere and honest goal, usable even at full aperture and in many areas also thanks to the reduced minimum distance of MAF. Crisp, fast and fun to use. The only flaw, if we want to find it, is the usual MAF ring of STM that has no limit switch nor no indication on the focusing distance; Apart from some street pust who wants to shoot in manual fire I don't see any problem. Good construction, it also fell a couple of times because it rolls well:), metal bayonet. A nice 9 full sent on January 20, 2019 |
![]() | Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Pros: It is an L-series, therefore construction and tropicalization Cons: Weight and dimensions, quality not from L-series and little efficient and noisy stabilizer Opinion: Like the 5d II here too I was disappointed a lot. Read the reviews and everyone speaks well, the problem is that from a series L I expect quality, which I have not found here. It is the entry level of the L series, with which it shares the physical characteristics like the constant F4, the tropicalization and a good construction, stop. The pictures he pulls out are off, crisp, unclean... Nothing to do with the 70-200 F4 that I own. An All-purpose series I expect to be at least "good" in doing everything, instead it is good just to take pictures on holiday or in the family and at this point I do not see the reason to carry a beast like that, better to orient to another. The concept of handyman, in my opinion, jars with the concept of reflex, both in the professional field but also amateur, and this lens is the demonstration. Flunked sent on January 20, 2019 |
![]() | Canon 5D Mark II Pros: Robustness, good Canon Optics Park, is a 5d Cons: Live view primitive, light meter, not comparable to modern FF, not for amateurs and not for all pros, uses CF, few focus points and only the central is good, Opinion: I found an opportunity and I took it in 2016, coming from a Canon 650d (which I still have) to get close to the PRO world. I believe that professionally, for certain sectors is still a lady machine, combined with great Canon optics such as fixed or Zoom Pro. I talk about work in the studio, where everything is under control and if you lose a shot, patience is redone. After having done ceremonies I can only say one thing: to carry a car like this, today (2019) means to get hurt. It's heavy, cumbersome, with a 24-70 or worse with a 70-200 it gets all hard. After using it for a couple of years I realized that I can do everything I need with a big car half, heavy 1/3 and expensive 1/4 as a micro 4/3. Then everything is subjective obvious. Speaking of objectivity: The autofocus is good, depends on the optics but forget a modern live view, it makes you want to pass. As I read from other comments is true that the exposure meter is not the best, you have to be careful, also because you do not do miracles then in PP with an old sensor like this. That said I do not feel to recommend it to an amateur, to me has literally passed the urge to photograph. Better a modern APS-C, just that it costs as much as a used 5d and does not have good-level dedicated Canon optics, which apart from some new STM has left a gulf between the top range products and entry-level, you have to go on compatible brands like Sigma and Tamron.
