sony_18-55_v2Sony DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II

Pros: Light. Total absence of aberrations of any kind. AF rapid in bright light. Discreet in the videos. Free!

Cons: Sharp just closing the diaphragm a bit. Slow AF with little light. Flare. Hood provided only for a fee.

Opinion: I admit: I would never have taken it, but this kit was provided in homage with my new Sony ALFA 68;) It was used for a short time until I got much better optics. The greatest merit is that the aberrations, chromatic and not, are non-existent at all focal lengths. Another advantage is the speed of the autofocus by day, while with little light the AF becomes erratic. I used it a lot to make some videos, and even here it defends well. Against the light suffers a lot of flare, but you have to see if the lens hood can be reduced. In the end, before being put back in the box, has baked images neither very beautiful nor very bad, as well as discrete videos, and therefore, for what I spent, ie zero, the opinion on this lens can only be positive.

sony_18-70Sony DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6

Pros: Good focal range, versatility, discrete sharpness throughout the frame, few aberrations

Cons: It does not have the lens hood and it kneads a bit the contours to the slightest focal

Opinion: Kit lens coupled to the Sony Alfa 200 bought in 2008. Stoica, trusted companion of countless shots, with its 18-70 (ie 27-105 on APS-C) allows to "approach" a little ' more to the subject; It also has discrete macro capabilities and on the whole allows to take off different satisfactions in the most varied genres. The chromatic aberrations are rather contained at all focal lengths, while the wide angles suffer from a kneading of the contours. The front lens rotates during auto focus, which is also quite fast (never used in manual). I must say that in his ten-year career has "wrong" very few shots, although perhaps the greatest merit was the wonderful CCD sensor of the reflex to which it was and is coupled.

sony_a68Sony A68

Pros: Good value for money, sensor, discrete high ISO resistance, gust, autofocus at 79 points, focus peaking, quality electronic viewfinder, ergonomics, lightness, battery life

Cons: Somewhat cumbersome menu to handle, non-metal lens mount Ring, limited aperture (f/3.5) for autofocus-mode videos

Opinion: My second Sony APS-C, bought ten years after the first, the glorious A200. As an avid enthusiast, everything satisfies me, the sensor, the white balance, the colour rendition, the good resistance to high ISO (excellent up to 3200), the electronic viewfinder, the tilting display, the formidable burst, the autofocus points, the quality of the baked JPEGS. The machine obviously gives the best of itself with fixed optics (like the Tamron 60 mm macro F/2) and behaves very well with the video, as long as you switch in manual MAF, which solves, in addition to the problem of reduced opening, also that of noise Operation of the lens. There is also a second top LCD display with shutter data, very useful if you use a tripod. The stabilization of the sensor is excellent and allows to use times otherwise unthinkable. Ergonomics and lightness are good, as well as the life of the battery. There are flaws, although IMHO not serious: the ring unfortunately is plastic, although it looks durable, and puts anxiety if you are in a hurry to change lens; Even the many menu items are not really easy to get to. Excellent purchase, I recommend if you want to take home with a little great machine that is compatible with old Minolta lenses that still give many satisfactions.

minolta_af100-300apoMinolta AF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Apo

Pros: Color rendition, warm and natural. Uprooso Bokeh. Three-dimensionality of the images. Sharpness and brightness more than acceptable both at the center and at the edges even at the maximum focal.

Cons: Strong chromatic aberrations (I have the NON Apo version) to TA at the maximum focal length. AF a little slow in the videos.

Opinion: My first optical extra kit, socket used at exactly 10 years from the purchase of Sony A200 at a ridiculous price (90 euros). Unfortunately it is the NON Apo version, which forces me to have to close the diaphragm of several stops to not have showy magenta and green chromatic aberrations especially in backlight. Aberrations that on the CMOS sensor of the new Sony A68 are also more contained than those on the CCD sensor of the A200. For the rest is a tele-objective that allows to remove many satisfactions, from architectural details to astrophotography. The colors are a pleasure, the bokeh is perfect thanks to the 9 blades and the lumimosity is not less even at the maximum focal despite the maximum opening 5.6 that on paper would define it as a little bright lens. The sharpness is already acceptable to TA and I have never detected noticeable flare. In short, it is a very nice old lens, with some defect that can be fixed already before the shot.

tamron_18-270vcTamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD

Pros: Versatile. Short. Light. Sharp in the middle. Fast and quiet Autofocus. Discrete videos. Zoom block at 18 mm.

Cons: Slight vignettings and chromatic aberrations at extreme focal lengths. Soft at the edges. A little dark in automatic mode. The zoom will drift when it is in an inclined position.

Opinion: Got new (399 euros) for my Sony APS-C (A200 and A68). Very short lens If you think it contains 16 lenses that have to do a crazy job. Optical handyman, decidedly versatile and light, that manages to do the wide angle, landscapes, portraits, tele (10 mm more than expected!), even macros, even if not pushed. In short, ideal excuse to make a nice trip with a single lens... The autofocus is very fast and quiet, ideal in the video, as long as you do not exaggerate the zooming and the shaded areas. The sharpness, especially at the edges, leaves a little ' to be desired at full aperture, but closing the diaphragm from 8 to 11 the problem resolves. Over 200 mm There is a slight vignetting, especially in backlight, but also here it resolves by closing the diaphragm of a couple of stops. Unlike some say, I have not noticed any "lens flare" thanks to the excellent lens hood provided and the anti-reflective treatment. Instead, the low dispersion glasses fail to eliminate the slight chromatic aberrations that plague him at the extreme focal lengths: Here unfortunately it is not enough to close the diaphragm. It is not very bright, and I recommend not to use it in "Auto" mode unless you are outdoors in the middle of summer and noon... I personally use aperture priority and in this way the "right" shots increase. With the use, after an annetto, the zoom has become a bit of a lapse when it is not in a horizontal position, in the sense that it tends to slide changing the focal of its head and forcing me to hold it still for the ring nut.

sony_a200Sony A200

Pros: Stratospheric CCD sensor, perfect RAW, excellent stabilization, good burst, intuitive interface, versatile

Cons: Poor high ISO hold. The built-in flash is too low and casts the lens shadow.

Opinion: Bought 10 years ago with his beautiful 18-70 supplied, he never missed a shot. As soon as possible I'll put some shots online: I've never used the tripod, also because the sensor stabilization is great. Now I use the A68, but I keep it in reserve. The CCD sensor, exceptional, does not almost regret the lack of a few more megapixels. With low brightness does not do miracles of course, but it still has its own because.

tamron_60macroTamron SP 60mm f/2 Di II LD Macro

Pros: Sharp lens all over the frame, even at TA, bright, valid for portraits of animals, flowers, insects, still life, even landscapes, day and night. True macro 1:1. Only true macro with maximum diaphragm f/2. Low focus distance. Manual fire adjustment very precise.

Cons: Tight for interior shots. Slow and erratic autofocus. Diaphragm only to 7 slats, which gives blurred a little nervous, but maybe it's not really a flaw for such value for money...

Opinion: UPDATE after a year of use: great glass! I took it used, unfortunately without a lampshade (I had to settle for a rubber one), and over time I learned to know it and to appreciate it. Coupled with the Sony A68, it rarely misses a click, PP interventions are limited and often the file is already nice and ready as it is. The autofocus, silent, is slow and often does what it wants, but luckily you can intervene manually even with the inserted AF, and then remember that, at least for macro shooting, you should always use the lens in manual. The sharpness is remarkable already at TA, although in this case you have to make considerable efforts with the focus, given the very small PDC, and you are often rewarded with bokeh results as original as unpredictable! Already closing by a stop the whole frame is more incisive, and at f/4 becomes a blade. I photographed almost everything, favored by the very small distance of focus: insects, flowers, inanimate objects, dogs, josa, without disdaining the interior, always a little "tight", and the landscapes, those of day, the nocturnal ones and starry skies, I even ventured portraits of human beings, but in the latter case I stopped, at least for now; in all these cases, although it is not such an easy lens, I had my beautiful satisfactions. I recommend it.
