Pros: Lightness and small size, image quality

In manual and with focus peaking + zoom EF it is easy to pull out good photos up to 200 mm, also thanks to the stabilization of the A7 II; after things get more complicated because, even at F11, the depth of field at 300mm is poor and the MAF ring is dune and with little excursion and does not always make it easy to focus properly.

I use it with Sony A99II and Sony A77II and compared it to the 70/400 G SSM, I did the test with the 99II and only at 300mm in both FF and APS-C. Tests done with the stand to avoid micromosso and iso 100. I was really satisfied checking the 100% images the difference is not so striking, The shots taken with the 70/400 are a little brighter.

Pros: Color rendition, warm and natural. Uprooso Bokeh. Three-dimensionality of the images. Sharpness and brightness more than acceptable both at the center and at the edges even at the maximum focal.

Cons: Strong chromatic aberrations (I have the NON Apo version) to TA at the maximum focal length. AF a little slow in the videos.

Opinion: My first optical extra kit, socket used at exactly 10 years from the purchase of Sony A200 at a ridiculous price (90 euros). Unfortunately it is the NON Apo version, which forces me to have to close the diaphragm of several stops to not have showy magenta and green chromatic aberrations especially in backlight. Aberrations that on the CMOS sensor of the new Sony A68 are also more contained than those on the CCD sensor of the A200. For the rest is a tele-objective that allows to remove many satisfactions, from architectural details to astrophotography. The colors are a pleasure, the bokeh is perfect thanks to the 9 blades and the lumimosity is not less even at the maximum focal despite the maximum opening 5.6 that on paper would define it as a little bright lens. The sharpness is already acceptable to TA and I have never detected noticeable flare. In short, it is a very nice old lens, with some defect that can be fixed already before the shot.
