![]() | Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 Pros: Weight, size, magnification, optical quality and autofocus, price Cons: Nothing Opinion: Used on a recent trip to India, I appreciated its weight and small size (considering the type of optics) and its good versatility. Ok also the autofocus and the rendering of the images at all focal lengths. Against nothing, but you have to keep in mind that 28mm are very different from 24, especially in video where there can be camera crops. In conclusion, excellent zoom for photography/shooting of subjects and for portability. sent on January 22, 2026 |
![]() | Sony A7C II Pros: Autofocus, dimensions Cons: Screen, Rolling shutter Opinion: Excellent first impressions. Finally many functions that were missing on the old Sony (intervalometer, focus bracketing, etc.) are integrated. The camera body is small and quite discreet. Incredible autofocus. Cons: rolling shutter and barely sufficient screen for size / resolution (the touchscreen works well, however). On this body, the 4-axis screen of the Sony a7r5 would be perfect. sent on December 06, 2025 |
![]() | Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Pros: Colors, sharpness, construction, size, price Cons: No conventional filters Opinion: Super sharp on the whole image, warm and pleasant colors, high-level construction, waterproofed. Smaller size than other wide angles zoom 2.8. There's a bit of distortion between 14-18 mm but nothing excessive. Still to try for astro photography although reading some reviews would seem to top even here. The price is high, especially for a person who considers photography a fun... but with what returns to you how can you not recommend it? Note: at the cost of the lens add quite a lot of money for slab filters or alternatively the rear filters (it has the filter port integrated into the bayonet). sent on March 05, 2020 |
![]() | Sony A7 Pros: Compact, light, sensor, price Cons: So-so ergonomics, switch Monitor-automatic EVF, unreliable autofocus, sensor flare, very noisy shutter Opinion: It is my first photographic stain "important" and I have therefore no references to make comparisons. However, after 1 year and a half of intensive use, I can definitely say that I have made a clear idea of the merits and flaws of this Sony. Starting from the good things, I would definitely cite the sensor from which you can get beautiful RAW files with good dynamic range and so much information to work in post production. For an amateur level is also a sensor too demanding that requires excellent lenses to be exploited. In This sense the zoom kit I used for about 4 months couldn't absolutely fix it properly. Coming to the machine body, it is small and light, more compact than the later models (A7II and A7III). Also for this reason the ergonomics is not great (but you get used to it). Good and discreetly durable construction. What I do not like: the continuous autofocus (unreliable) not suitable for chasing fast subjects. Automatic Switch Monitor/EVF: I often get closer to the camera to the body to shoot with the screen oriented upwards, but about twenty inches from the chest the machine passes from the monitor to the EVF. This is very annoying, it would suffice to recognize that the screen was extracted to disable the passage to EVF and avoid the problem. Shooting noise: really very loud! Flare sensor: Effect that emerges in the presence of intense lights and strong contrast (for example the lampposts in the night photo) creating many halos visible around the light sources. Out of curiosity I've been informed and seems to be generated by the sensor lining on this first Sony A7 series. For me it is not a big problem, but in short here not very well... By pulling the sums this Sony has given me great satisfactions so I will continue to use it and exploit it until it is its limits (and not mine) to make me lean for a change. ![]() | Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 Pros: Optical yield, light Cons: Autofocus, construction, price Opinion: Goal with better optical yield than the equivant 50mm in the same price range, but autofocus very slow, noisy and inaccurate even with latest firmware update of the lens (Sony body a7). It does not like the central element that protrudes in the regulation of fire, questionable constructive choice. With Sony alpha 7 it's really hard to shoot with moving subjects. A pity considering the good rendering of the images. It would be to try with newer Sony bodies. Last note the price, 260 degrees are exaggerated for a lens with focus system 20 years ago... sent on December 03, 2018 |
![]() | Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Pros: General optical quality, build quality Cons: Nothing relevant Opinion: I have it for about 1 month and use it together with A7 (24Mp). In my opinion the results in terms of sharpness, boke, colors are excellent. The sharpness is already excellent at 1.8 on the whole frame. The blurred light points appear circular at the center of the image, while on the periphery the discs take almond shape. If this was also a defect, I personally consider the general aspect of the Boke interesting and still very sweet and pleasant. At the constructive level the lens is solid, well built and the side keys for MF/AF + button Customizable settings are very comfortable. Very good and quiet autofocus. I noticed read chromatic aberrations in very intense backlight, but they correct themselves in a second. You might ask for a more precise manual focus ring to be at the top, but overall let's talk about a really well built lens, able to return excellent results at a reasonable price. sent on May 21, 2018 |
