canon_24-70Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM

Pros: Robust / good picture quality / weather sealed / fun to use

Cons: heavy / cromatic aberration

Opinion: A pro lens which will not let You down. I like it especially for portraits. Detail and color rendition is very good in my opinion. Night shots are great with this lens. Also i had used this lens in heavy rain, and it never failed. Yes, it is large and heavy. So sometimes i leave it at home because of that. Cromatic aberration is slightly visible in specific light set ups. But i would say it is at an acceptable range. Autofocus is fast and smooth. This is a lens that You will keep for Your entire life! I recommend it.

canon_g7xCanon PowerShot G7 X

Pros: Small / versatile/ full manual control if needed / WIFI

Cons: No microphone jack / no 60 or 120 FPS for slow motion video in HD / Remote software on cell phone lacking features

Opinion: This is the camera that is always with me. Small and powerfull. Every photographer should have one of these in his or her pocket. I am every time impressed by the picture quality and sharpness. Very usefull for travelling or back packing and hiking. I have never regreted buying this insane camera! If i would have to buy one now, i would go for the G7X MK II because of the more mature video functions and the microphone jack. The MKIII is too expensive in my opinion. Regardless of that, the G7X MK I is also a camera that can be recommended at any time!

fujifilm_x100sFujifilm X100s

Pros: Picture quality superb / flash exposure / auto white balance

Cons: Menu structre not intuitive / feeling-handling / limitation to one focal length / battery life

Opinion: Hello, i bought this camera due to its very good reuputation for taking pictures of people and family events. Yes it delivers beautifull pictures. The white balance is always spot on, this is important for me as i only shoot in jpeg. But i must say, that i don´t like the feeling and handling of the Fuji so much. It somewhow doesn´t feel good in my hands. Maybe i am spoiled by my canons, that do have a much better grip and human interface. Ergonomics are not as good as they should be. Therfore i don´t use it that much. I like to shoot with a camera, that feels good in Your hand. This is even more important then a perfect picturequality in my opinion. And this is defenitly where the Fuji doesn´t perform. Also the menues are not intuitive, and You don´t get the adjustments You need as quick as on a canon for example. The aperture ring on the lense is difficult to grap, and often You have to take of the camera from Your eye to get a grip on it. This stops You from taking pictures. It simply gets in Your way. And this is something a camera should not do. A camera should support Your shooting and not block it. Therfore i have to say that i wouldn´t recommend this camera. Yes, it delivers perfect pictures, but it is not fun taking pictures with it, and therfore i am not using it. But this is just my personal feeling, and everybody is diffrent in this aspect. Verdict: The Fuji delivers great pictures, but is poor at handling. If You really are looking for one, try it out before You buy one.

canon_5d2Canon 5D Mark II

Pros: Eas of use / picture quality / toughness

Cons: AF system very simple / response quiet slow

Opinion: I bought this camera 2nd hand, cause i always wanted to go full frame, but never had the will to spend so much money for it. I use this camera together with my 7D mk1, but i must admitt that i do like the 7D more then the 5D. Also i don´t se a diffrence in picturequality between the two. The only real benefit i see for using the 5D is the availability of 50mm lenses on the market. For the APS-C camera You have a quite limited offer of 30mm lenses, that will equal a 50mm on a full frame camera. So in terms of picture quality i would not recommend to go for a full frame if You already do have a APS-C camera. One big advantage of the old 5D mkII is its eas of use. The menues are not too complex, as on modern cameras. You will get quit easy along with the menu structure and the handling of the camera. Verdict: The 5D mkII is still in my opinion a very good camera, but not better then a APS-C camera that You can buy for the same money on the 2nd hand market.

canon_efs_18-135Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Pros: light weight

Cons: bad picture quality / very strong cromatic aberration

Opinion: This is a lense i only use if i am taking b&w pictures. As a standard zoom lense it is just to bad in picture quality. It has so strong chromatic aberration that the pictures are useless. Even for private purposes. Maybe i have a bad copy of the lens, i don?t know. But i would not propose it to anybody. The build qaulity is also very poor. The silver ring aplication on the front part of the lens went loose. It is just an optical element, but it should not happen on a canon lens in my opinon.

canon_7dCanon 7D

Pros: Fast and responsive / build quality / fun using it

Cons: no tilting screen / for 50mm lenses You have to go to 30mm lenses, and there is not much joice on the market. That´s why i still keep my 5D

Opinion: I love this camera. It is the only camera i bought brand new. It feels so good in Your hands. The build quality is outstanding. I also have a 5D MKII, but i like the 7D more. The 5D feels like a dinosaur in comparison to the 7D. The 7D is so much faster in response. In terms of picture qaulity it is more then i will ever need. I would like to have a HDR function on the camera, since i only shoot in jpgeg. And a tilting screen woud be great. But overall it is a great camera and it is fun to use. In my opinion this is the biggest benefit of the 7D. A camera You don´t like to hold in Your hands, will not be used at all. And the 7D will make You wanna go out and shot every day!

canon_1d2Canon 1D Mark II

Pros: Fast AF; Battery lasts very long; Very good picture quality; 1.3x crop factor; Solid body; Water resistant; Almost 100% veiwfinder; 8 Frames per second; Mirror lock up;

Cons: Small display; Pretty heavy; Noise level only acceptable up to ISO 800; Even 2nd hand not cheap at all; Mirror lock up function hidden in menue;

Opinion: I'm no professional, so for my needs this camera is still superb! The 8MP are far enough for my needs. The camera feels great in Your hands, and taking pictures is great fun with it. When traveling, it can get pretty heavy for Your shoulder. Above ISO 800 noise is visible. But if You have fast Lenses, this is of minor priority. I love this camera and would buy it again. It has been a good friend for some time now.
