![]() | Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/4 G ED VR Pros: Fast and sharp telephoto lens with low weight. Cons: Apart from the list price I would say nothing else. Opinion: Remarkable optics, professional level (or almost) even though it is not the classic f2.8. Compared to the latter, it is much lighter, portable and also much cheaper despite its cost, which is still not low in absolute terms. Of course, f2 8 would have been the top but its handling is worth the choice. The general quality is high, starting with the highly efficient stabilizer. sent on May 23, 2025 |
![]() | Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art Pros: Good quality all-rounder. Cons: Not tropicalized and, if desired, "only" f4 (if you want to consider it as a negative side). Opinion: In my opinion, in the reflex world it is the right choice for those who want a single lens for light rides with which they can do a little bit of everything. Compared to the classic 24-70 it goes further, allowing you to cover situations where 70 mm is objectively few. On the other hand, it is not f2.8 but I must say that not exceeding the limit of f4 allows you to still have a good compromise. In the hand it is nice and consistent with a weight that I find well balanced. The overall performance is good. Maybe it vignettes and distorts a bit at open apertures but nothing serious. The stabilizer seems to work quite well, the focus seems to me fast enough and even in the videos it seems to me that it behaves well... On the other hand, it is always an "Art" that, in the end, turns out to be a good (only) travel companion... sent on May 23, 2025 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.8 G Pros: Portrait lens with good value for money. Cons: Not stabilized. Opinion: It may be a bit plasticky but it is light, space-saving and nice and sharp (starting from f1.8) with a human price and a good overall quality considering the absence of particular optical defects. Is the competition doing better? Maybe... but in the reflex world this is an interesting lens to have without breaking the bank... sent on May 20, 2025 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G Pros: Lightweight fifty with a light price. Cons: Not as sharp as the top of the class. Not stabilized or tropicalized. Opinion: Yes yes agreed, it's not pro, it doesn't have the rendering of a Sigma Art nor the quality of the new Nikon S for Z mount agreed... But for how "little" it costs, what do you want to reproach him? It's true at TA it's a bit soft but, overall, it's not so bad since once you close the aperture a little the sharpness is there (even if generation Z, on point, will look at it with a lot of condescension, from top to bottom). Very light and compact... In the end, for its exceptional price/performance ratio, it can only make a lot of "tenderness"... sent on May 20, 2025 |
![]() | Nikon D780 Pros: Reflex with (also) a Mirrorless soul. Cons: Sensor not stabilized. Price a bit high since the presentation. Opinion: He has been with me for more than a year after making the nonconformist and unconventional choice to buy a Reflex in a world devoted to Mirrorless which, without a doubt, will be the future of photography (smartphones with AI permitting). Too bad that Nikon did not continue with this hybrid genre and that the camera was snubbed by the market without obtaining the deserved commercial success due to Mirrorless hysteria. For me she is "the last of the Mohicans", a Reflex lady with perfect aesthetic proportions. The D780 is beautiful, damn beautiful to hold in the hand or, simply, to look at from the outside much more than the Mirrorless Z. It's a respectable semi-professional camera even today... Strengths? Reflex ergonomics, reflex optical viewfinder, reflex philosophical setting that winks at modern mirrorless features in live view... in short, I like it, for the Mirrorless (real) there is time... sent on May 20, 2025 |
![]() | Nikon AF-S 20mm f/1.8 G ED Pros: compactness, weight, sharpness, brightness, aesthetics, screw filters... etc... Cons: Not stabilized nor (seriously) sealed Opinion: A fixed of this focal I think is not very usual and yet has its why. It will not be built with "premium" materials but it is sufficiently solid as well as aesthetically pleasing, with a good lens hood and light almost not to be heard despite the great luminosity. Strong point, a bit like all fixed, sharpness. Comfortable the possibility of mounting screw filters (I would say a rarity on wide) and beautiful colors for excellent photos of landscape. The stabilizer would also give a hand on these focal lengths since, Freehand, at some point the blur comes. Nice on APS-C because it becomes a 30mm to be used even more frequently. It is not sealed except for a gasket on the bayonet. In any way not bad... sent on May 15, 2018 |
![]() | Tamron SP 35mm f/1.8 Di VC USD Pros: Construction, compactness, solidity, image quality, stabilization, tropicalization... etc... Cons: Some chromatic aberration at very open apertures. Opinion: Bought a few months after having previously excluded the two Nikkor (the F 1.8 because objectively poorer and the F 1.4 because frighteningly expensive without being so much better) after a quick runoff with Sigma Art. F 1.4. The latter, perhaps better with regard to sharpness and even nicer aesthetically, cost something more by offering something less (see stabilization). Of the Tamron I can only speak well, I like it! Nice solid but not too heavy and cumbersome, hyper effective stabilization so much to get almost 1/4s freehand, sharp (although a little less than the Sigma from this point of view having the stabilizer sometimes makes a difference as well on these focal lengths) , resistance to flare excellent with unique neo of chromatic aberrations at very very open apertures... Recommended! sent on May 14, 2018 |
![]() | Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC OS HSM Macro C Pros: Versatility, sturdiness, adequate size, reasonable price... Cons: A little something but nothing tragic... Opinion: Bought a few days to replace the albeit acceptable AF-P 18/55 found in kits with the Nikon D5500 after a long runoff with the Nikkor 16/80 (really too expensive to be just DX). The first sensation is that of a "more photographer" instrument than that of the kit with nice dimensions, weight and aesthetics. Although I have not yet tried to the end I must say I have not regretted the purchase, indeed... has a good sharpness, beautiful colors certainly not turned off, an adequate focal length thanks to which it shows a good "handyman" and a dignified opening of the Diaphragm (f 2.8/4) sufficient for daily use. Well after the merits touches the flaws... I noticed a certain difficulty in focusing in low light, some chromatic aberration, a bit of flare in addition to the possibility that the lens extends alone towards the maximum focal (for honesty I have to Say that holding the machine around the neck while moving I have not noticed big problems but if you put it upside down and you shake it a little is not so "stopped"). I had read a few comments strongly negative about the distortion especially at 17 mm but, maybe because I still have not squeezed too much, I have not detected any particular flaws... Anyway if you want something compact, from the discrete potential and that does not cost a salary I can only recommend this Sigma 17/70 Contemporary... with good peace of my original lightning strike (Nikkor 16/80) not so much better according to the tests of Lenstip... sent on June 19, 2017 |
