tamron_24-70_f2-8vcTamron 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD

Pros: robustness, effective stabilization

Cons: Everything else

Opinion: Having to take photos of baptisms and communions lately and having only the Canon 24/70 f4 I opted for this brighter f2.8 lens, which I found on RCE at 500 euros in perfect condition I would say. Apart from the effort made to calibrate the MAF with the micro-adjustment on my 6D m2, I must say that it is an acceptable lens only in perfect light conditions and indoors. In these cases, good sharpness and realism of the colors are perceived. Using it for exteriors and landscapes is unthinkable. I compare its performance to the 16/35 and 24/70 f4 L series of Canon in my possession. When the light is strong or of a non-optimal direction, the colors are distorted and muddy, it suffers from flare in a distressing way and the wide side distorts considerably. The vignetting is not bad either, easily eliminated though. Using the burst the camera goes wrong, I thought it was a defect of my sample but I see that I am in good company. I found the zoom ring excessively hard and moreover with the opposite direction of operation compared to the Canon zooms (to increase the focal length you have to turn clockwise). When new, this optic cost about 900 euros. In my opinion money wasted, and also the 500 I spent. When I can I'll take the 24/70 f2.8 from Canon, used of course.. / Update after a month of intense use: I have not changed my mind regarding the use of this lens outdoors but indoors I must say that it is effective in every respect and amply compensates for its shortcomings in bright light. Contrary to what was previously stated, I think I will keep it.

canon_efs_10-22Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

Pros: lightness, small size, sharpness, flare resistance, robust construction, 77 filters

Cons: lack of sharpness at 10mm edges, not stabilized (although for a wide it's not a big flaw)

Opinion: Wide-angle zoom lens with EF-S focal. That is, only suitable for APS-C sensors. Therefore, it cannot be used on FF. The autofocus is ultrasonic (USM) as the most emblazoned lenses in the L-series and ensures manual focus without detaching the AF. It has the distance window like all other USM. It's not stabilized. The opening of the 6-bladed diaphragm ranges from f 3.5 to f 4.5. The weight is in line with the non-exceptional size (385 g.). The filters can safely be mounted on this lens and must have a diameter of 77. It comes without a lampshade, to be bought separately, as in the best Canon tradition for "economic" goals. Its current price is around 500 euros. A lens that can certainly not be missing in the photographic set of those who own a reflex with the APS-C sensor and loves landscape photography. The excellent wide angle provides breathtaking views and even at the slightest focal point the distortion is incredibly contained. The baked files are great for sharpness, colors and exposure (high/low lights). It never overexposes frames even in the presence of very intense lights and with a few exceptions the flare (which persecutes several of its competitors) is absent. I read in previous comments that someone complains of poor flare resistance to this lens. Definitely not in my specimen. The autofocus is quick and precise. The brightness is not great (3.5 to TA) but not even a problem. The sharpness at the edges of the frame is also very good and only at the slightest focal point there is a slight drop. Holding the optics you can perceive an excellent build quality in the dials and metal attack. All very sturdy. This keeping a very low size and weight. Clearly, given the focus, it is also a very suitable optics in the interiors and cramped spaces (monuments, churches, museums, architecture in Jan.), considering also its reduced distortion. I personally work in all these contexts and especially in the landscapes where I judge it truly irreplaceable. For my personal experience and for the reviews read on the forums also about the rivals, I judge the 10-22 the best wide zoom installable on a Canon APS-C. The reason why I have not yet abandoned the smaller sensor is that I regret having to undo this lens that has nothing to envy, for e.g., at 17/40 L that I also own on the 6D.
