Fu costruita sui resti dall'antico convento di Sao Bento del Ave Maria, attorno all'anno 1900 e disegnata da Marques de Silva. L'aspetto esteriore è signorile, con influenze dell'architettura francese dell'epoca, ma al suo interno sembra più una chiesa che una stazione. E' completamente ricoperta di mosaici (più di 20.000) realizzati dal pittore Jeorge Colaço, nei quali sono rappresentate differenti storie: in tutta la parte superiore è rappresentata la storia cronologica dei mezzi di trasporto fino alla comparsa della linea ferroviaria; nella parte bassa ci sono scene della storia portoghese. Ce ne sono altri più piccoli dedicati a scene della vita quotidiana della regione o a fatti storici precisi, come il torneo di archi di Valdevez. Ci sono inoltre enormi vetrate che la illuminano molto. Di fronte alla magnifica stazione si trova la chiesa di Sao Antonio de los Congregados.
