The Pyramid of Kukulkan (the Mayan name for Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent), also known as "El Castillo" has elements that are purely Toltecs, or the central plateau of Mexico, as the snake heads at the foot of the main staircase, columns snake , the "talud", or inclined plane that strengthens the lower part of the walls of the temple, stone decorations that crown its roof replacing the "ridges" maya. This monument was erected for astronomical purposes and during the vernal equinox and the autumnal equinox, the setting and rising of the sun, the corners of the pyramid cast a shadow in the shape of feathered serpent Kukulkan in fact, along the staircase north.

A 'differs from the usual interpretation of the Castillo and I particularly like as well as the sepia version.
I also like the perspective of the second.
Congratulations on the photo and the caption.

Hello my dear friend,
makes me happy to know that you liked the photo and above all that you share my choice of PP. :-P I have tried to give a color to shoot a little 'antique ...
This allowed me to recover a little bit also a sky that in the original shot was completely anonymous and colorless. ;-)
Thank you, kisses and Cokic (issssimi):-D <3

A valuable series of profiles in which it was handled beautifully shallow depth of field. I also like the choice of monochrome.

The tour continues Mexican ;-) ... Thank you Michela! ...

And ... so many compliments!

This is an architectural shot, in my opinion, perfect!
A beautiful focus and a highly sought-point shooting.
I also like this particular color scheme that accentuates the antiquity of these wonders.
As always very comprehensive caption.
Great Tour!

Janka that splendidoooo comment!
Thank you so much and I will tell you that this shot is among my favorite among those dedicated to the archaeological site of Mexico.
I am very pleased that you have well grasped the meaning of the toning .... I worked a little 'because I was never quite satisfied with the result and eventually this particular sepia convinced me.
Still many thanks for appreciating the caption.
E 'was really a great tour! ;-)
Salutoni!

Beautiful coexistence of many different architectural lines in a single image, located on two floors "detached" that give a sense of three-dimensionality own thanks to the different shades of sepia and chiaroscuro.
Your interesting comment made me think of a short chapter of the book "Palomar" by Italo Calvino, a fulminant reflection on the visit of the ruins of Tula. If you are interested in is called "Snakes and skulls" and find it on the net at this address
