#SitiArcheologici Uxmal è un importante sito archeologico maya che sorprende per l'ottimo stato di conservazione. E' stata una vera emozione visitarlo. Si trova nella Penisola dello Yucatan, a 78 Km da Mérida e 170 Km da Campeche. Tra i vari siti archeologici che ho visitato è forse quello che mi ha stupita maggiormente per i molti elementi architettonici di grande pregio che denotano la maestria costruttiva di questo antico popolo. Uxmal, che nell'antica lingua maya, significa "tre volte ricostruita" fu fondata intorno al VI secolo d.C. e raggiunse il suo apogeo nel periodo classico della civiltà maya, divenendo il principale centro cerimoniale della civiltà Puuc. Molte ricchezze archeologiche restano ancora nascoste sotto la vegetazione Non si può passeggiare nel sito senza soffermarsi incuriositi ad osservare il Campo del gioco della pelota, che consta di un quadrilatero delimitato a est e a ovest da due tribune laterali, sul basamento delle quali si trovano due anelli di pietra che recano incisa la data dell'anno 649 d.C. e attraverso i quali andava fatta passare la palla
