Diffuso nelle foreste tropicali dell'Asia, questo lepidottero può raggiungere i 30 cm di apertura alare. Viene anche indicato col nome di Farfalla cobra a motivo del disegno sulla punte anteriori delle ali che simula la testa e i colori di un cobra. L'esemplare in foto è appena uscito dal bozzolo di seta attaccato, come avviene di solito, ad una foglia ove si è trasformato da crisalide ad esemplare adulto. Foto eseguita presso la "Casa delle farfalle".
