Portrait of the "snake girls", acrobatic dancers from the Guéré ethnic group (Ivory Coast). Guéré people are an ethnic group residing in the western part of Ivory Coast, which is a country located in West Africa. They are part of the larger Kru language-speaking people. The Guéré primarily inhabit the region around the town of Guiglo and the surrounding areas in the western part of Ivory Coast. The Guéré people speak the Guéré language but many Guéré individuals may also speak French, which is the official language of the country. The Guéré practise the age-old dance of the 'Snake Girls', where young girls, supposedly while in a trance, perform contortionist moves and are even thrown around by male adult performers. This dance originates from the Dan people in neighbouring Liberia. NFT: https://linktr.ee/roberto_pazzi IG: https://www.instagram.com/roberto_pazzi_photo

Nice anthropological document. The cutlass is disturbing.

Thank you Claudio!
Fortunately today they are only part of the choreography, but until recently they were still used for ablations...
