Il Droma (Dromas ardeola) è un grande uccello costiero dall'aspetto inconfondibile: l'adulto è di color bianco brillante, con dorso e remiganti nere e becco scuro massiccio, che viene utilizzato per cacciare crostacei e altri invertebrati. Come suggerisce il nome anglosassone Crab Plover, il Droma mangia principalmente granchi, cercandoli visivamente. Una volta trovato un granchio, lo insegue e lo cattura con un rapido movimento del becco. I granchi piccoli vengono ingoiati interi, mentre quelli più grandi vengono prima scossi per rimuovere le zampe, e quindi aperti. Il Droma è l'unica specie della famiglia Dromadidae. Abita spiagge e coste sabbiose, nonché affioramenti corallini, coste rocciose e mangrovie dell'Oceano Indiano e del Mar Rosso. Si riunisce in piccoli stormi, spesso emettendo richiami rauchi simili a quelli delle sterne in volo. Nosy Ve Island, Anakao, Novembre 2023.
